Yoga Exchange Minneapolis
« on: April 26, 2013, 01:27:21 PM »
Hi friends.

I'm organizing an ongoing yoga exchange. I'm tired of spending $100/mo on yoga classes, but I love yoga and I love being taught yoga. I'm trying to get some people together to teach and learn yoga in the Minneapolis area.

For this exchange, I envision meeting up 2-4 times per week at someone's apartment (on a rotating basis). Everyone involved would switch off teaching classes (you wouldn't have to be a yoga teacher, but would have to be confident enough in your yoga practice to teach), requiring each person to teach 1-2x per month depending on how many people are interested. This would allow us all to develop more as yogis since we'll have to develop our own sequences. And it will also help us save a ton of money! I'm thinking we'd meet up, do yoga for 60-75 minutes, then have a little social time with tea. The more people want to be involved, the more classes we could have each week allowing more flexibility in the schedule.

If anyone in the Minneapolis area is interested, let me know!

I live in Saint Paul, so wouldn't mind meeting someone new, but I'm not into yoga at all.

I do yoga sometimes but mostly in my home from some great online videos. There are a few places where you can do free yoga in the twin cities though!

I'm also interested in doing a twin cities meetup. There was a Minneapolis thread that seemed to die off because I think people forget to check this part of the forum. Maybe we should make an group email to coordinate that?

I, too, was disappointed a couple of MSP meet-up discussions have fizzled. We have at least a couple of challenges:

- It's a far-flung metro area. I've seen at least two participants from St. Paul (probably more), saw one recently in Eagan and I'm in Plymouth. And of course there are likely many in Mpls and more in the outer-outer burbs.
- If we're truly Mustachian, we want to meet somewhere free, not in a bar. Picnic?

Open to suggestions and ideas. (Unfortunately, like MgoSam, I'm not into yoga.)

I'm an aspiring mustachian in Minneapolis, and I'm glad I'm not alone.  I did yoga for a *very* little while but sure couldn't teach anyone.  I do tai chi, however.  Maybe we could start some sort of exercise club for the summer.  Whatever activity you know well, you can teach a little bit of it to the group - I would love to get some free yoga lessons.  Or we could start with a bike ride or something.  There are a ton of parks around that we could meet at.
