Willamette Valley Mustachians (Oregon)
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:41:44 PM »
I have been loving MMM, and I'm wondering if there are any sympathetic souls in Oregon.  I'm in Eugene, but I'm sure Corvallis and Portland have some Mustachians as well.  Anybody out there interested in a hike/bike/paddle/beer/coffee?  My wife and I would be happy to host a meetup at our place.

I went to an ERE meetup out there. We had about ten people, several who came down from Portland. You might consider cross-posting over there.

AJ--a hike/picnic sounds great (sorry for the slow reply).  You wanna propose a date/time?

Velocistar--thanks for the tip.  I will look into cross-posting on ERE.

Vancouver, WA here, and would be interested in meeting up if people aren't too far away (can't be spending all kinds of money on gas and such!).

It looks like the numbers are increasing for the Portland area.  I looked up Mt. Pisgah, and it is about as far away as Bend, which I just drove to a few weeks back.  Seems like it might be a little too far for me to be mustachian!

How about meeting up in a park in PDX some weekend day? We could potluck it for maximum mustachianism.

Hey I have family in Albany and Eugene!  The next time we ma a not mustachian friendly trek down there, we'll have to try and get together...more visits on the same route make it more Mustachian friendly I do believe!

Hey all --

I want to revisit the idea of a Portland Mustachian meeting. Even a few people getting together to grab a beer would be awesome.

I'd even be glad to host at my house to keep the costs down :) Or recommend a killer happy hour.

How many people would be interested in doing something in mid November or early December?

Great! The two dates I'm seeing are the weekend of Nov 22nd or the weekend of Dec 6th.

Will anyone who is interested please specify which date/time works best for you?

If it is on a Friday or Saturday, for me, it'd have to be after work (6 or 7).  I could do anytime on Sunday.  Right now either weekend works for me.

The December date works for me, and I prefer Sunday too. Any time from 10 am through 3 pm would be my ideal, but I could do other times too. Thanks for offering to host, elincolnp. That sounds good to me, or perhaps we could meet in a central location if that's easier for the people in areas beyond city limits. You can bring "light refreshments" into Multnomah County Library meeting rooms, so we could do a finger foods potluck in a free meeting room at any of these library locations.

Are you guys blown away by the fall color? It's been especially gorgeous this year! As I was looking at my neighbor's lion maple today, I realized that it must be utterly lovely at the Japanese Garden right now. The reason I mention this is because, speaking of libraries, I'm going to borrow a Cultural Pass for the garden this week. Do you guys use Cultural Passes? It's a wonderful benefit of having a library card. Here's info for a few counties:

Wa Co

Clack Co

Mult Co. Multnomah only offers one pass (CM2), so it's well worth getting a card for the other counties since they have many more choices (and less of a wait list for their CM2 passes).

elincolnp was kind enough to alert me to this thread.  I'm in Oregon City and I'd love to meet you guys.  I've got two little ones so sometimes my weekends get filled up, but with a month's notice I should be able to make that first weekend in December work.

Alright, it sounds like Dec 8th, around 2PM, would be ideal for everyone.

As we get closer to the date, I can send out details about potluck stuff.

Just so everyone knows, my house is located off of I-5, 0.4miles from the Kenton max stop in North Portland.

Is anyone south of Portland interested in carpooling to this event?  I'm in Albany, but can meet others wherever.  Please private message me if interested; we can all save some gas and have a chance to meet at the same time.    Thanks.

Just stumbled upon this thread today, is the Dec 8th potluck still a go?

My boyfriend and I started reading MMM about a month ago and now we're hooked. A potluck to meet like-minded people in the Portland area sounds awesome, so count us in. =)

The potluck for the 8th is still on.

Can whoever is interested send me a private message with their email and potluck dish preference so that I can start compiling a group email with the address and potluck info!

Thanks!

Hey all, since the last Portland meet up went so well, we are talking about another one in the start of the New Year. Two dates have been proposed: 1/19 and 2/9. If you are interested in coming and are not already on the email list (or haven't replied yet), let me know your preferred date and I'll send you the details! We'll be meeting at my house in Southwest Portland for a potluck meal.

Cheers!

Just realized I haven't posted the set date yet.

The next potluck will be on 2/9 at 4pm at my house (and Tim's) in Southwest Portland. Anyone is welcome - message me for the address and phone number, and perhaps what food or beverage you plan to bring. =)

I've been wondering about that too.  I heard you need to have chains to go on the freeway, but I don't know if that's true or not.  I've just been staying home!  My daughter was invited to a party tomorrow but I just got an email that they've canceled it.  Good thing because they live in West Linn up a big hill that I was NOT going to brave.  Unless on a sled.  :)

We have two feet of snow with freezing rain falling today in the central Willamette Valley . . . so I won't be able to come for sure.  Sounds like it's emergency travel only, and I'd rather not "create" an emergency for myself.

I was going to suggest that last night but thought I'd wait to see the accuracy of the forecast.  Looks like they were correct, so I vote for reschedule.
