Meet Up at Spinnaker's at 4PM for Happy Hour Friday 2 Mar 2018. Date is just to get ball rolling if folks want to suggest a different date in Mar just comment [we'll lockdown the date/time by 15 Jan 2018], but I figured it would be nice to have an early 2018 Victoria Meet Up. :)

Volunteer and Community projects take precedence over MMM meetups, it was a matter of priority not scheduling :)

Try to come anyway! Can someone else watch them for a couple hours? I also have a couple of kids, even though they're not so little anymore. DH is going to be out of town on meetup night, but I've got a plan for the kids so I can still come out.
If you come, then our meetup won't all be middle aged guys talking about mountain biking ;-)

If the weather is decent I'm happy to ride Friday during the day. Let's coord over FB messenger. Chaplin will be working that day and I expect he will be heading home to see the family afterwards and I don't think there are any other MMM mountain bikers in the area who would be interested in riding.

I'm still in! My plan all along was to make it to this meetup, but now the schedule works very nicely. Usually I go back to Vancouver on weekends, but this Saturday my family is coming out to Victoria, so I'm staying and have no other commitments on Friday. Now to see if I'm going to bike there or not.

Whoa...this came up on the calendar REALLY quickly it seems.
I'm currently pouring over ferry schedules with an intensity similar to an archeologist trying to decipher the Dead Sea Scrolls in order to determine the feasibility of my attendance.
It's been my M-O to travel far and wide for these events, and with thoughts of beer, wings, and good company dancing in my head, I'm gonna bloody well try. :)

Well jeeze here's where all the Canadians are. Drinking beer and having fun. The journals are all DOA and some of us 'Muricans are going thru BC outdoor photo withdrawals. Have fun ya all. Wish I was there. And that it was summer. And that it wasnt , ya know, raining ;-)

Well, a deer totalled off the front of my SUV last week and I don't have that this week. I have a rental car the auto body shop provided but it doesn't have winter tires, the forecast is good so I think I can sneak through the Malahat Pass without the snow tires. I want to make sure I can attend, looks like a big table is needed for this one.

KIDDING! A joke in bad taste....though the deer infestation on JSI is REAL.
I have also had the misfortune to hit a deer - it's an awful thing.

A coworker of mine once hit a deer on the way to work, taking out the right front quarter panel of her car. She had it to the shop and squared it away with her insurance, and was able to drive home that day. On the way home she hit another deer which took out the left quarter panel, grill, and hood, necessitating a separate claim since she'd been so speedy with the first one. She wasn't so happy when she saw her premium increases, as they counted as separate incidents, but boy over the years we've gotten a lot of teasing mileage out of that one day.

I'm glad it was only a little Vancouver Island black tail and not the massive Mule Deers of the prairies. Ran out on the island highway like a rocketship when I was doing about 90km.

I am about to start Step 1 of my journey that will hopefully end at Spinnakers tomorrow. I'm stoppin' on another island before I get to yours. :)

Sounds great that so many peeps are aiming to attend. I'll make the HUGE sacrifice and head down for 330pm to get a big table. Yes I am willing to do that and suffer by drinking an extra pint of beer just to help you people out. ;)
For newbies I'll be wearing a plaid shirt and a grey baseball cap...I'm permanently tanned and have that relaxed working 3-days a week look on my face. ;)

Drive safe! If you want to stay in Victoria Friday night and deal with the Malahat Sat AM vs. at night after some beer you are welcome to crash at my place.

I'm watching conditions and traffic cameras gang.... The Malahat is a bit of a disaster and gong show. I have been chatting with friends on twitter who sat for an hour stuck in traffic in an accident and now we have heavy snow at the summit. Not sure if I will make it now or not.

Well, shit. If it were Summer I'd come get you in our boat and then we could arrive at the pub by water. Hope you can still make it man....but I still have memories of a post-Meetup drive on the Malahat in a driving rain storm. One of the scariest drives of my life. I can't imagine adding snow into the equation.
I just finished putting a 4 hour shift in up at my garden. I am RAVENOUS. But somehow I am going to skip lunch, and skip the temptation that are the B.C. Ferry Nanaimo Bars (OMG). In short...I'm saving myself for Spinnaker's. That first sip of beer is like to be akin to a spiritual awakening.

When you get to Spinnakers go upstairs and walk straight into the pub towards the windows and then just as you get to the windows turn right. I'm at at a table up against the right wall.

Echoing Curlyfry's thanks to you for organizing this RC. I'd be up for another one pretty much any 'ol time. It's is always great to match faces with forum monikers as well as see familiar faces again.
Made my ferry with ease...made even easier by the fact it's 30 minutes late. Thanks for the offers to those who offered lodging should I be stranded.
The only real downside to the evening was that I was unable to get Stasher's critique of my wool PNW evening wear.

The only real downside to the evening was that I was unable to get Stasher's critique of my wool PNW evening wear.
Well, good material selection but too little plaid, facial hair and piercings. Bonus points for the toque.

My son said the Malahat was a bit of a gong show so I'm glad I chose to avoid it. @Jon_Snow when we have a really good weather window I will ride my bike across the islands to your place......and sorry I couldn't comment on your PNW attire lol
At least during the May meetup the Malahat better not have snow and 1hr long accident backups from ice:)
