Thanks @ Zikoris I joined.  I'm still somewhat anonymous but maybe you will see me at one of the events soon.  I read in your thread about cooperative housing which is something I knew very little about....so I found one in my neighbourhood that I will investigate.

Thanks for that tip!  The costs are about $380/month less than I pay in rent which is substantial.  I like the idea of not being kicked out if my owner decides to cash out of the market.

That's great! You should definitely apply to some co-ops - they get surprisingly few applications, because most people don't want to bother with the interview process, wait list, etc.

I'll probably schedule a potluck or movie screening or something for the meetup group sometime in the next month - my co-op has a nice big amenity room for members to use, which is nice. Normally the events are more outdoorsy stuff like hiking, but the weather is not co-operating this year!

Thanks, I actually live in the burbs and not Vancouver but I would like to meet some other people.  I'm surprised that the co-ops don't get too many applications.  I think I'll throw my name in and see what happens...nothing to lose by applying.

Reviving an old thread! We've basically moved our Vancouver meetups to Meetup and Facebook, but I thought I'd post our upcoming one here as well for anyone who wants to attend but doesn't have either!

We're doing a roundtable tax discussion and snack-potluck on March 19th at 3pm-5pm. It's at my home, so I'm not posting my address on here, but it's in downtown Vancouver close to Waterfront station. Message me if you're interested in attending, and I can send details.

The meetup was really fun yesterday! About a dozen of us had snacks and beer, and discussed taxes. I think everyone learned at least a couple of new things, and it was very cool to meet so many newcomers to the group.

By popular demand, we've decided to try doing some live-action case studies at a future meetup, so if anyone is interested in being put in the hot seat, message me. I'll probably be one of the first volunteers, unless a lot of other people are interested.

Following - I didn't realize there was a FB group and my Meetup notifications were turned off. Hopefully now I'll see it in one of the three places. ;)

That sounds like fun, hope I can make the next one.

Well, I've booked my building's common room off for the next discussion group - we're going ahead with Case Studies LIVE! for April 22nd in the afternoon, at my place again. Basic format: Present your situation in about 15-20 minutes, get facepunched, have snacks and chill, repeat with the next one. We'll shoot to do three case studies in two hours. Post here or message me if you want to volunteer!

Thanks to FIRE_at_45 for pointing me in this direction. I'll plan to attend and even volunteer to expose my (financial) self if more volunteers are needed.

Oh boy, I'm excited to dissect your spending :).  Please bring that calculator.  Zikoris is the organizer so you will need to PM her for details.
