Friday would be a yes for us, Saturday a no.

Thanks for taking the initiative to organize, and to host!

Other people to bat signal... @avrex @CanuckExpat

Bat signal worked :)   Thanks Elle for hosting.

Weekend plans are still in flux.  However, I should be able to do Friday.

Okay, it looks like most people are better Friday, I will PM my address etc to the people who've replied. Anyone else who can come, you can PM me for details - maybe CC okits or prospector. I deputized them to share my info.

Mississauga Poutine and Gin meetup
My house
Friday
6pm ish (earlier is possible, text me)
I will supply
A filthy apartment
Fries, sweet potato fries, vegan cheese, cheese curds, gravy (possibly from a packet dye to it being Friday), pink Gin, dishes and stuff

If anyone wants to contribute non alcoholic beverages or a salad or something to share, it will be awesome. If they don't, it will still be awesome.

I will be coming on the GO train... with a boy... and 2 bikes... and stuff.

We will attempt to bring some sort of a munchable thing. I guarantee nothing.

Also, can I be Deputy Dawg?

For anyone in Toronto who has time Saturday Morning, James and I will be cycling through Toronto eastbound to Whitby. If you want to tag along for a km or 50, let me know. We move at the speed of a 10 yr old boy. Sometimes that's fast, but mostly its not. If you don't want to go the full distance, you can easily bail out at Rouge Hill GO station and hitch a ride back to Toronto on the train. Same thing in Whitby where the waterfront trail goes to the train station.

There is no extra fee to take a bike on the train.

Super fun time tonight.  Thank you, EF, for hosting. @avrex , thank you for sparing me the Coyote Gauntlet after imbibing.  Pink gin is amazing, everyone.  Highly recommend.  (Will I pay for it tomorrow?  I might be paying for it tomorrow.)

Looking forward to our next hang out!

Aug 13 evening or Aug 14 morning

Hi GTA Mustachians!

@deborah has a stopover next week and we are going to meet up somewhere near Pearson airport.  Is anyone else available to get together either Mon Aug 13 (dinner time or later) or Tue Aug 14 (breakfast/mid-morning)?

Morning.  I have yet to sort out who is going to roll me home after I eat five million Australian Tim Tams (I suspect I will be too happy to care!)

Wondering if anyone is up for an ongoing meet up to discuss the new version of Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin?  I borrowed it from the library and there are great discussion questions at the end of each chapter.  Anyone game?  Works well in a group of 6-8?

Let me know, Alison

I would say it has been updated, and really thought through very well.  I got it from the library, you could borrow, read and buy if you wanted to later :)  Well worth it imo

I think is a great idea. I nostalgically remember reading this book when I was in university and so glad I read when I did even though at the time I had difficulty trying to translate some of the messages to my limited life experiences (ie. I saw calculating your hourly wage akin to beating a dead horse and a very depressing prospect but the life energy concept is something I still think about today).

It's hard to believe how popular this book actually was. For a blast from the past check out these 90's documentaries (I love cheesy "vintage" stuff) - https://youtu.be/QtveS1kZqYA

PBS even has a super old school webpage for the first film with original learning resources- https://www.pbs.org/kcts/affluenza/escape/
I feel like I'm in a time machine lol

I watched it, loved the shoulder pads and fashion!  I read it in 1998 and did a small group then within my church community.  Would love to at least bring discussion questions to a meet up that doesn't mean that everyone had to read the book : )

If not too busy with holidays, how about a meetup next week. Wednesday or Thursday (19th or 20th) evening at PATH location?
Feel free to suggest other time or location (middle of day is fine by me)

I can do Tue the 18th!  Given the dispersion of locations people are coming from, is something in the Union Station area the fairest?  I'm good with squatting in the PATH or if people want to go someplace to eat.  6:00?  6:30?

I can do this Tuesday.

One option not in the usual PATH would be to hit the Distillery market. It's free on weekdays.

Sounds like Tuesday it is.

Location, I have no strong preference. If one location would be better for anyone, or any location massively inconvenient, now is the time to speak up.
I'm good to go with Christmas market, but happy to go somewhere else if that works better for more people. Speak up now or hold your peace :)

I have a moderate preference for the PATH if we need a free place, since it's indoors and I can sit and eat a brown-bagged dinner (assuming we get together around dinner time).  If people really want to do the Christmas Market I can suck it up and go along with that plan (or start off someplace where sitting and eating is possible, then end up at the market?)

Let's aim for six-ish, I know some people will trickle in after, as work and other commitments allow.

Tuesday, December 18th , ~6PM or when you can get there. Copy and pasting location from last time:
First Canadian Place (BMO) in the PATH level, around the corner adjacent to the LCBO there are nice round soft seats in a (semi)circular setup. It is a raised platform by elevators

Great meetup and turn out, nice to see so many people, new and familiar faces. With that size a meetup, we were almost too big for the spot in the PATH!

A few people suggested looking forward to a January meetup. Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll throw this message out to help get a conversation going about when and where works. There were suggestions for a meal, out at a restaurant or potluck, any other ideas?

Enjoy! Unfortunately, I can't attend but please keep an ear open for anybody interested in a daytime or kid friendly meetup in the new year. Thanks!

I like this idea. Let me know what you are thinking, or anyone else.
Couple ideas off the top of my head:

Up north-ish, Markham museum is an open air museum (old buildings from when it was rural and not a suburb), open during the day, and I believe the admission price includes snow shoes to use around the property. They have snowshows for adults and kids. The admission sounds cheap compared to renting or buying snowshows. I don't know when there is enough snow accumulation to make this possible.

Threre is an indoor playground/gymnasium in Leslieville called sprouts. First visit is free (one free visit per family). Other spots like that?

Day drinking/legal intoxicant of choice?

Had a great time yesterday!  How do people feel about Jan 10 for the next evening get together?  I'll check if my building's party room is available to host a potluck.  Otherwise, I am up for an affordable restaurant.  :)
