After talking about how great the waterfront trail is, I got to thinking...

Would there be interest in a Toronto to Whitby bike ride in the late spring after things warm up? Without pinning down exact dates (I'm thinking late May/Early June), the day would look something like...

09h00 - Meet up around the Music Garden or similar location
09h30 - Ride east into the rising sun
10h30 - Rest stop around Rouge Park
11h30 - Rest stop around Ajax
12h30 - Arrive at My place - BBQ/Swim/Sit and tell lies.

Ride GO train or bike back to Toronto (your choice). GO trains are now on a 30 minute schedule on the Lakeshore east line, even on weekends, so transit is pretty derned good, and bikes are allowed 2 per car so getting home shouldn't be much of an issue. Any thoughts/feedback?

Roughly how far is that? I think the farthest I've biked in one go has been 12km!
It sounds like fun though.

You're in luck!!! Its 12 km!!

Then we stop for morning break. Then 12 km to second break. etc.

54 km total, but most people bike at 18 - 20 km/h so its only about a 2.5 - 3 hr ride.

I missed the last meetup. Will there be another one soon? I would prefer weekdays, since I work downtown.

I missed the Dec 2015 games room meeting, however.....
@Prospector, I would be very interested in a spring biking excursion as you described above.

Hi everyone! I just signed up for the forum hoping to find some fellow mustachians in and around Toronto!

They bike ride sounds AWESOME but please in the spring... LOL

How about some hot cider until then? Has anything been planned yet?
If not: I am happy to organize a meetup around Yonge & Bloor for late Jan / early Feb if anyone is up for it!

I'm good for hot cider after 5:30 at Bloor/Yonge on a weekday.  Week of Jan 25 I'm good except for the Thursday.  Ditto the week of Feb 1.

That's awesome!

Does anyone have objections against "The Pilot"? They have cider. They may be able to heat it up too. :)

And how is Wednesday, January 27 at 6 pm?

It will likely make it to either the blog or journal... everything ends up on one or the other.

Shameless self-promotion - I just started a seed swap (see link in signature) - please join in!!! Its brand new, but will only work with lots of participation!

You can have a bunch of my seeds ... if they are still good. I bought them last fall but have to admit that a north facing balcony without any sun is really hard ground for growing anything!

Hey there,

Thanks, Mermaid3011, for the message about tomorrow's MMM meet-up.

I held off responding 'cause I wasn't sure whether I would be able to make it.  Some family stuff going on right now.

But, I think I might be able, though won't know for sure until just before hand.  I scanned through the thread quickly, and didn't see - is there a plan for how we'll recognize each other?  Is someone going to wear some outrageous colour or pattern, or a little sign for the table, or ...?

Will make every effort to be there, but if I don't make it then have a great time!

Quick late night log-in to say that I also enjoyed the meet-up, and would definitely try to make it to another one in future!

It was surprisingly un-weird to sit around sharing details of financial hopes and dreams with a bunch of strangers ...

Sounds like everyone had a great time! Surprisingly no photo evidence of any untoward behaviour in the Toronto crowd, which is a good thing.

For the Waterfront ride, I am Thinking that either the weekend before the May 24 or a weekend in June. Early May, the pool will still be cold - we have a heater, but its pricey to run. Then again if folks aren't concerned with using the pool, I won't be concerned with heating it. The weekend  of the May 24 are entirely booked already as is the weekend following it. We are a busy family.

There is enough time for another meetup before the ride - I am projecting 4-5 months out here, so if that happens I will do my damndest to be there for planning purposes. If there is not, I'll need to get some feedback here for what folks prefer with regards to dates and activity.

For reference, travelling with GO, your return trip to Toronto will cost you a maximum of $9.55 on the train.

Great to see the people who were able to make it out last night and hear how they're choosing individual strategies that reflect their priorities & goals.

CSR - you're right, there is nothing stopping me from starting on my list of things, except my own self.  Which is why I need to resort to the type of self-talk I mentioned.  Knowing and doing are very separate things, plus I am a lazy person.  Almost any progress I make comes from figuring out how to make the lazy option the frugal one.  Thank you for the reminder.

I had a lovely evening and am so glad we had such a nice bunch of people together!
thank you all!!

And agreeing with PJ - it was surprisingly not awkward to talk about finances and such!

It was really nice to meet like minded people with so many different backgrounds!

How about we shoot for another get together in March - possibly also for planning purposes to get together at Prospector's home in May/June?!

Just signed up to the forum and disappointed to learn I've missed a recent Toronto meetup.
Living in downtown Toronto and working in the financial industry, it is somewhat challenging to find like-minded people.
Any plans for an upcoming meetup? Happy to assist with organizing!

I've been on the MMM beat since 2011, but I've never been to the forum. Happy to realize there are more Mustachians in this city than previously thought!
Would love to meet all you wonderful people on March 8th, please PM me Michalit20!

Hey everyone, I'd love to join you as well on March 8. Micalit20, would you mind inviting another stranger to your home? I'm new to the Forum - been reading MMM for a year and wanting to meet up with others. I too work on Bay st in finance. Too few Mustachians in the industry, so it will be nice to meet others!
