SFBay meet up was held Sunday from noon to 2:30 pm. 8 people showed up at Hoover Park, enjoying the conversation and braving the windy and cold weather. After 2:30, a number of people went over to the TechShop. Looking forward to another meet up in the future!

Hello, fellow SF/Bay Area Mustachians, I just joined. My name is Brook & I live in Noe Valley, a recent transplant to SF. I've instinctively saved most of my life, figuring it was a way to give myself flexibility in job choice. It's nice to see I have company.

Welcome aboard Brook.

Oneday - we all survived, but were so awed by the experience that it takes time to recover.

cheers,
Wyn

Hello fellow Bay Area Mustachians,

I've been following the blog for a while and just moved to San Jose a couple months ago. Now that I'm all settled in, I'm looking to meet up with other like minded people to learn how others manage to survive in this valley on a less than six-digit salary. I'm doing alright, but want to do better. Is there a regular meet up of sorts?

Wow, lots of activity here since I last checked! Sad to have missed the meetup.

I've started organizing some events through Meetup.com if anybody is interested: http://www.meetup.com/BayAreaMMM/
Let's try and make this a regular thing!

Thanks everyone for coming out to the meetup today! It was good to meet some fellow financial-independence-seekers (and some who are already there) in the area.

I've got a few more meetups planned for the group over the next couple months, and am working to find some space to host educational sessions on financial independence topics. If you're interested, all the details are available on the Meetup.com page: http://www.meetup.com/BayAreaMMM/

SF/BAY Area Meetup on Saturday, 4/23
« Reply #316 on: April 20, 2016, 11:09:36 AM »
Hello Bay Area Mustachians -

REMINDER: There's a cool meetup this SATURDAY, APRIL 23 @ 1 PM at Dolores Park in SF at which we'll talk about many Mustachian things, and a lot about TINY HOUSES. If you're interested, here are more details http://www.meetup.com/BayAreaMMM/

Personally, I'm planning to build a tiny house in the next year to remove myself from the ridiculous traditional housing expense of living in San Francisco and environs. There's a lot of cool stuff happening in the tiny house movement now...Come learn more and share what you know. It'll be fun!

Hope to see you there.

Hi all,

I moved back to the San Jose area last spring after some years in Chicago, and I would love to make it to one of these. Won't be able to do the one in SF this weekend, but I look forward to meeting some of you in the future!

Calling for another MMM get together - this time in the (south) East Bay at Ardenwood Historic Farm!

I will go ahead and set the date for July 9th, 2016 (which just so happens to be my first full day of retirement).

I love this place - it is one of the hidden gems of the Bay Area!

Hope you can make it.

Cheers,
wynr
P.S. more info below...

From the web site (http://www.ebparks.org/parks/ardenwood#calendar):

Since Ardenwood is a working farm, the daily activities change from season to season so no two visits will be exactly alike. Visit our Naturalist Program page for more information and schedules before your next visit.
Ardenwood Historic Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, year round, including Labor Day and Memorial Day. Ardenwood is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. For picnic reservations call 1-888-EBPARKS or 1-888-327-2757, press option 2. There is no parking fee. Dogs are not allowed in the Ardenwood Historic Farm.

Entry Fee

April 1, 2015 to November 24, 2015 (spring-summer-fall entry fees):
 Tues., Wed. & Sat.--$3/adults (18+ years), $3/seniors (62+ year), $2/children (4-17 years), under 4 years - free.
Parking is free.

wynr, I would love to go & celebrate your retirement!  Mr. O's birthday is that week, he usually had lots of activities planed, but not this far ahead.  I will do my best, but please understand if I have to juggle multiple events.

To everyone: Ardenwood is a lovely place, but it will likely be H-O-T in July.  Bring your hat and lots of water!

Also, I would mention that I've never taken public transit here, but the bus stop is pretty far outside the park and the road in does not have sidewalks or shoulders. Maybe there is a shuttle?  If not, maybe bring your bike and/or arrange with someone to drive you in.

ETA: congrats on your upcoming retirement, wynr!  I really should have posted that first thing.

Thanks Oneday!

There is public transit to the entrance, but it would be a long walk even from there.  I could pick people up from the Union City BART station if needed.

Oh, you are sassy! ;)

How about 10am?  That way we can all meet at the ticket booth - it is a big park and so it will be hard to find each other after going in.  Plus it will be cooler at that time (of course, this is the Bay Area, how hot can it get?).

Thanks,
wynr

Sorry, Wynr, I don't think you can retire on only 30 posts.  I'm shooting for 10k, maybe 20k at least-- more if I have kids.

Hey All!
Gf and I are a maybe for the July 9th Meetup.  Congrats Wyn!

Also wanted to throw out that I'm trying to coerce my colleagues into a bikepacking trip (tentatively 1 night July 16th), thought some of ya'll might be interested.  Leaving from Mountain View, thinking of going to Coyote Lake (~50 miles one way, mostly bike path).   Definitely amateur hour over here, so fancy equipment not required.
Not sure how many of them are actually going, I may have slightly undersold the hill climb on the last one, dissolving whatever trust they originally had in me...

I confess that I got fed up with work, and I did not feel like I was providing value to the company. So I quit three weeks earlier than planned! But lets keep the same date for the meet up at Ardenwood Farm at 10am.

Chime in if you plan on attending.

Thanks,
Wynr

That's great oneday. If anyone comes late, we can meet up at the blacksmith shop at 11am

If no one is riding BART, then I can ride my bike to 'the farm' (green mountain bike).

Also, bring a container, there may be blackberries to pick!

Oakland here! Commenting to follow.

Also, my Tiny House (being built by father in TX) will be done in the next ~year. Saw some earlier post about Bay Area TH'ers and would love to hear any advice on finding space for it.. or if any fellow Mustachians have a nice roomy yard to rent out ;)

We came across a cool couple who lived out of an RV on some land they rented in rural Livermore, I asked about it and she said she found the land for rent on Craigslist.

Ack, that is both baby friendly and close enough for me to come, but we'll be out of town! I hope it is super fun, so fun that you all want to go there again sometime soon when I'll be around and can join in. :)

Do be prepared, the parking lots get really full there on weekends for those of you who will be driving. We were there on Saturday afternoon and only got a spot because we happened to pull up as someone was leaving.

Anyone ready for another meetup?  I posted on the financial independence subreddit to solicit interest in a SF bay area meetup and got some takers.  Someone suggested meeting in Oakland as it is central for the Bart system.

Fantastic idea! I'm in San Jose so would appreciate a location somewhere along the peninsula if possible? Or I'll be up in SF on Tues 17th for another reason, so after 8 on that night would work for me in the city.
