We are leaving now. Looking forward to seeing you all!
I could make either the 17th or 10th work, depending on location (I'm off work at 6pm). Since no one has suggested a venue, and it sounds like the 17th works best, how about 8pm that Wednesday at the Starbucks at King Street Station?
http://www.yelp.com/biz/starbucks-seattle-130
Does that NOT work for anyone? Feel free to counteroffer.
There are like 2 parks within a few blocks of there that would make nice meetup places, too.

The 17th works for me, what parks were you thinking of? I could bring a soccer ball if anyone wants to kick it around.
Sure, I'm down for meeting at a park.

Who's in?
I've extended an invitation on the ERE forums. Will see who else I can drum up :-)
We'll do a more orchestrated weekend meetup next time. What neighborhoods are people in? That'll help with venue picking in the future..

I'm down for that. Heck, even happy to host if people want to do the drive down/over to Bellevue...
I'm in! No bandwidth to do any actual planning (too busy with Camp Mustache...hope to see y'all there!) but I'd love to attend.
I'm down for that. Heck, even happy to host if people want to do the drive down/over to Bellevue...I think we have an offer for a host! I'm 30 miles north of Seattle anyway (Lake Stevens), so it hardly matters where this is located. Huzar, when and where!?

Pray tell Mr. Yolfer sir, what is Camp Mustache, and how can I learn more about it?
Weekends work best for me... so, how's about the afternoon of Saturday, February 28th. I can pretty easily accommodate, say, 12-15 people. More if I get creative. Potluck?
Bellevue ain't the easiest place to get to by public transit on a weekend, so I'm certainly willing to let someone else propose a location.
I have no way to get to Bellevue, so I can't come. But have fun!
I have a car (as long as DH doesn't need it, but he probably won't) and live in the CD. I'd be interested in a meetup! I thought about going to the last one, but chickened out thanks to introversion. But if I've already agreed to drive someone, then I can't chicken out, can I!
The car is a sedan and holds 3 riders comfortably, 4 somewhat squished (excluding the driver). Although I wouldn't want to spend the ENTIRE afternoon driving, I certainly wouldn't mind picking people up within a reasonable distance. I will take requests. :)
[I feel like I should add this (in case anyone checks my profile): I totally promise not to bring up any feminist topics.]

Dibs? I only need a ride into Bellevue, I should be able to meet up with friends there in the evening.

I'm in Kirkland so I'd love to come too. Do we have a time? day? Evening?
Thinking early afternoon for a time. 2pm?
Address is 1003 166th Ave SE, Bellevue, 98008
Just a heads up... I have a large, friendly dog. If you're allergic, or big dogs scare you, take appropriate precautions.
I would love a ride! I live near the CD and can easily head that way to meet up.
Looks like we have 8 or 9 plus Huzar (host).
I'm able to give others a ride as well, I'm coming north from the Everett area. Shoot me a text 425-367-8949

forkneedlepen, we're in central Kitsap. I'm not sure whether I can make the 28th, but there are at least a couple more of us over here :-)
I would definitely like to join on the 28th.

I'll do a final accounting this Sunday, so that I have a firmer headcount. For now, there is space, though I may be asking people who have folding chairs to bring one.
Also, keep in mind that this is going to be a small potluck. Bring something to share, or a six pack, or whatever moves your furniture :)
Any theme on potluck dishes or a free for all?
I posted earlier. Is there room for me? I'm small :)
confirm for me (1)
Looks like you forgot me huzar.
Cool. I have 4 chairs I can bring. Regarding potluck, I'm leaning toward 7-layer dip. So if anyone wants to be lazy and bring tortilla chips, they will be needed. :) Otherwise I'll bring those too.Cressida, I went to Costco today and grabbed a huge bag of Tortilla chips. We should be set.
Assuming SeattleStache confirms, I'll send private notes to them and to hamsterman about the ride. Should be in the next couple of days.
It looks like I am in fact going out of town this weekend - so sad to miss it! I hope you all have a great time and hope to go to the next one.
It turns out that I'll be out of town this weekend. I'll be there in spirit though. Hopefully there will be another get together soon.
Hmm...Mustachians look kinda...like normal people. ;)Looks can be deceiving ;)

That guy in the orange looks oversized. A bit larger than normal. Kinda ugly too.
BTW, lisapants, judging by that first photo I posted, I think the blue travel mug left behind at my place is yours.
"I was thinking of showing up a day early to do some fun some stuff in Seattle first, and maybe even hosting a general-purpose meetup in a nice park somewhere central (weather permitting, otherwise it could be a house or pub). Then the next day I could carpool up to Camp with anybody willing. Our Seattle day could even start with a group bike ride that anyone would be free to join".
Feel free to post here if you have any ideas.
Fremont Brewery is nearby too in case of less favorable weather. It's kid friendly so all could join.
The co-founder is a grad school friend of mine. Maybe I can negotiate a MMM discount?
Yes, the west half of Gasworks park is closed until about a week after the proposed meetup. I think it is still worth considering as it is a central location that is logistically pretty easy to congregate at and still offers nice views, etc. Locations like Carkeek (beautiful and great) have limited parking and are pretty out of the way for many arriving by bike. It's on my way home from work, so not a big deal for me, but may be inconvenient for others. Woodland Park has a number of picnic areas with gazebos. Woodland park doesn't have the epic views of the waterfront parks, but is still pretty nice, centrally located, and bike friendly.
Hi all. I'm one of the Camp Mustache organizers, and MMM is interested in having a Seattle Meetup on the evening of Thursday May 21st (the night before Camp Mustache). I'll be pretty busy then, but we were wondering if anyone else here would like to organize a meet up for that day. This is what he had in mind:

I'm not gonna be able to make it so I don't really have a dog in this race, but I think the entire thing should be shifted about an hour later (ride at 4, dinner at 6). I'll let the people who are attending decide.
Neat.. I got lucky & heard about this meetup elsewhere.. maybe we need some type of mailing list or something.
Anyway, I'll check with my wife & a few local friends to see if we can show up at 6ish :)
Did anyone actually get the reservations yet?
Can someone confirm the address for us out of towners? I've got a couple of conflicting ones looking up the park.

The map link in the details post above includes both a map of the specific locations in the park and how to get there from I-5. Here it is again for good measure:

It sounds like the general consensus has landed on Gasworks park. I am organizing another event the following week, so I don't have the capacity to take on being any kind of "real" organizer for this, but to get things moving towards specifics, suggest:
-- Bike ride: those who want to do the bike ride meet up at the the east end of the stone sculpture at the park at 4pm to start riding by 4:15. The default would be for the ride to do an out/back along the Burke, but will likely evolve/change based on who shows up. (side note: does MMM need wheels for this, or is he set?)
-- Potluck: begin at 6pm at Shelter 1 or 2 with the expectation that people will trickle in over the next hour as they get off of work (for those of us that have jobs, that is).
The picnic area shelters at Gasworks can be reserved for between $70 and $190, which would provide some certainty as to places to put communal stuff to share. However, I suggest that we forgo the reservation and just bring blankets and folding chairs and camp out on the grass if the shelters are not available first-come first-served basis. If someone else wants to volunteer to handle a reservation, I'd be happy to pitch in a few bucks to help cover the expense.

Please comment if you have thoughts one way or another on that, or anything else above-- these are just suggestions to get things nailed down.
note: Edited for schedule.
Was anyone else planning on participating in the potluck?
I was planning on bringing chips and tuna salad dip (doesn't require additional plates or utensils), but if no one else is signed up for the potluck it may as well just be a chat.

I'd love to attend but I'll be on the Hudson Bay looking at Beluga whales! I'll try to watch for future events.
Does anyone know an inexpensive place to get a vehicle weighed in Seattle? I need new plates. I'd also like to know what a reasonable price is for car weighings if anyone knows that off the top of their head...
My girlfriend and I would like to host a MMM pot-luck style gathering at our house on Alaska Junction in West Seattle on a weekend towards the middle/end of September. Would folks be interested?
We have a big yard, deck, bbq... Lots of room for yard games, food eating, story telling, and beer drinking (hopefully) before the rain returns.
MMM MEETUP/POTLUCK NEAR SEATTLE ON SATURDAY AUGUST 29TH 2015 AT JUANITA BEACH PARK, KIRKLAND, WA. 4pm-7pm
I've been meaning to schedule a MMM meetup near Seattle for a long time, but only recently became FI and now finally have the time. I'd love to meet some more Mustachians in the Seattle area. We're doing a Potluck at Juanita Beach, in Kirkland WA on 8/29/15.
Here is the park website:
http://www.kirklandwa.gov/depart/parks/Parks_and_Open_Spaces/Online_Parks_Guide/Parks_Pop-up_Main/Parks_and_Community_Services__Juanita_Beach_Park.htm
There is a playground for kids, a beach, volleyball, and shady areas. Just volunteer to bring a main dish or side dish and post it here. (This crowd is geared toward the healthier side of the food spectrum, but not snobby about it.) It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I'll bring some form of delicious main dish.
We'll try to get a couple of picnic tables--usually we're able to. I'll bring a folding table just in case. Feel free to bring a folding chair or blanket. Look for the sign with a mustache on it to locate the group.
This is a low-key, informal get-together. Everyone is super-nonjudgmental and welcoming, so introverts don't fret and come on out! A few people will probably share their successes, challenges, and tips in their Mustachian journeys. And we'll hang out and have some good food. When you get nice, smart people together, it’s just good. People find ways to help each other.
CARPOOLING: I'll be driving from Bothell and could give someone a ride. If you want to carpool, post here and someone in your area will probably be able to help you out.
There will be singles, couples, and families there, so if you have kids, feel free to bring them.
Please RSVP by posting here and/or sending me an email. Any suggestions are welcome. See you all there!
The West Seattle meetup will likely be the weekend of Sept 12 or Sept 19. If you are interested, please reply with which of those days would be best.
Sorry you got the flu. Definitely not something to share. Rest up, get some fluids and I hope you feel better soon. :)
Hey guys,
I really hate to do this but we are going to have to postpone the meetup for this Saturday the 19th. I came down with the flu, and beyond feeling terrible I just don't want to expose anyone else to this.
My plan is to reschedule for sometime in early to mid October.
Really sorry again.
Craig
I'd love to meet up with people in Seattle. I can even host if other people would like to join. Would anyone be interested in a potluck? I'm located in the CD.
I'm also in the CD! What about next weekend (Dec. 12/13) sometime in the afternoon or a brunchy/lunchy potluck? I can also help bringing supplies, I have some easy-ish to transport chairs and an Ikea set of picnic plates/cups.
Leontager, are you a member of the Washington Mustachians Facebook group? That might be a good way to coordinate this too.
Ravenna Third Place Books is much closer to me, but I'd be happy to lead a group bike ride on the Burke from Fremont or UDistrict up to the Lake Forest Park location. Assuming I'm not sick or that the meetup isn't too early in the morning..
OK, I'm calling it -- let's aim for the Lake Forest Park Third Place Books cafe area (due to limited space at the Ravenna location) at 10:30am on Saturday Feb 6th.Awesome, looking forward to it!
If anybody in the N. Seattle area needs a ride (either there or home), let me know -- I can fit up to four more people in my car.
@Feb 6 - looking forward to it.
@Jan 21or 22 UW-area rendezvous with JS and Ihamo, if my recovery from surgery continues to proceed smoothly, I'd love join you. Would welcome the chance to discuss with fellow travelers the ups and downs of giving notice to employer of early retirement (Jan 5) AND undergoing unplanned scary surgery (Jan 8) within a single week. What a roller coaster....By the end of next week should have a better sense of things.

Could this be considered The Seattle Meetup: pre-game edition? :) The 21st would work really well for me...I'm leaving Vancouver early and hope to arrive in Seattle just in time to miss rush hour (9:30-ish?). You guys (gals) pick the spot and time and I'll be there, be it for a walk (if we are all feeling up to it and the weather is decent) or we can just park ourselves somewhere and enjoy a hot beverage. I don't know Seattle well at all, but my TomTom should get me to the agreed upon place.

Would appreciate very much if some "locals" might be able to give me some pub/restaurant suggestions...

I'm in!
Coming from Vancouver, it is worth checking if the Amtrak train schedule works for you. It will drop you off in downtown Seattle, and it is a 20 minute bus ride north from there. The train ride is pretty nice if it lines up with your schedule.
I could also meet after work on 1/21. I suggest Happy Hour at Mio Posto (http://miopostopizza.com/bryant) (#65 bus from the University District). Also, it'll be easier for lhamo to find parking.
IfWhen the Hawks win another Superbowl
Is the meetup still on for ~6 tonight? I an 95% sure I can make it. Won't know about my husband until pretty much the last minute.
I'm probably not going to make it to the evening meetup -- I dislike driving at night under the best conditions, and this rain is nasty! I know, I'm a wimp. But I get really bad refraction with my contact lenses and it is really scary to drive when it is dark and raining.
Jon Snow, I'll be driving through the U-District on my way to the meetup, and probably within a block of your hotel. I can easily pick you and your DW on the way through.
If that helps, PM me with your hotel and we can figure out where to meet at 545-550ish. I'm guessing it's the Deca from your description above.
It was so fun meeting you guys - Glenstache and Jon_Snow (and Lady Snow). Always great to put a face with a username.
I'm new to the forum and was excited to find out there will be a meetup on Feb 6-th. Looking forward to it.
BTW: As I was leaving, I noticed that there was a lady's cap (with an embroidered flower on the side) left on the table -- I dropped it off at the information desk. If you're missing yours, they are holding it safely for you.
... maybe we can also get a regular ole email list going at some point, or use the Washington Mustachians Facebook group too ... ?
Hey all!
So i'm not from Seattle but I had a question since you guys are one of the most active threads of the meetups section of the forum and appeared to just have a wonderful get together recently (Congrats!)
Tonight i'm hosting a meetup in my home with 6-10 mustachians coming, all of whom i've never met. It occurred to my wife and I yesterday - "oh no, what if it's horribly awkward and the spread of people is 60 years in age and the only thing we have in common is reading a website!?!" With that fear in mine, i turn to you, veteran meet uppers to quell my fears and possibly offer suggestions of what to do tonight. We have snacks and drinks that we will provide. Should we just plan on mingling with no agenda? Should we have games ready? Should i have some questions prepped that i could ask of the group if it turns quiet and awkward?
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you
p.s. Sorry for hijacking the thread, i can delete this post in a couple days if you'd like!

Hi Everyone,
Hopefully we can keep the good conversations going from the last meetup. My wife Deb and I wanted to get Saturday March 26th on the calendar to host a potluck at our place in the Greenlake/Tangletown area.
Feel free to bring any food or beverages you'd like to share. Bonus points for MMM-inspired recipes that are cheap, healthy, and delicious. I'll have a couple beers and a cider on tap. We do have a friendly dog, for anyone who needs to know for allergies. PM me if you're interested and I'll send out our address and the particulars.
Also, 3/26 is still a ways off so don't let this preclude other gatherings before then!
Brandon
CD folks, how about a meetup one night for a beer at the Chuck's Hop Shop? Not exactly Mustachian, but beer.
Maybe next Monday or Tuesday (March 14 or 15)?
Mmmm... beer. I assume you mean the one across from Central Cinema as opposed to the Chucks up on 85th. I'm in for a pint after work provided I don't get sucked out of town for work.
I wouldn't mind hearing people's thoughts and experiences with the Seattle real estate market.
Here's a plan: Monday, March 14, 7:00pm, Chuck's Hop Shop at 20th & Union, http://www.chuckscd.com/
@brandonbrews, thanks for hosting today, we had a great time! It was such a pleasure to meet everyone, and we were really bummed that we couldn't stay longer. Looking forward to the next one!
+1 -- you guys, the company, the dog, the food, the cider, and all the great conversation were all awesome!
Good luck to everybody with upcoming property adventures. Hope to be embarking on one of my own soon....
Anyone up for a Chucks Hop Shop meetup again this week on Wednesday or Thursday?
Proposed topic for discussion: Into the great beyond- investing after meeting tax sheltered IRA limits.
Ooh -- I can probably come to this one! I got my free one week Orca card that I have to use -- it expires on Friday. Is Chuck's anywhere near the Capitol Hill light rail station? I can google it, of course, but too lazy at the moment....
When are we meeting? 6 PM?
Sorry you guys couldn't make it -- we were a small group, just Glenstache, me and Curious Cricket. Great conversation and excellent liquid refreshment, though! Look forward to the next one. We might try the north end Chuck's for a change of pace.

Sorry we missed you! We must have headed out walking just before you got there.
FYI, I'm headed to China for a couple of weeks so I won't around for weekend walks or other meetups. Hope to resume them once I am back, though -- especially if the weather stays like it was this morning!
Anybody up for doing a potluck/picnic, as well? Need to figure out what we're doing for dinner tomorrow :-)
My girlfriend and I, along with 2 carpool buddies will be out and about around noon on Friday, looking for something to do before heading up to the retreat - is anyone interested in getting together Friday afternoon anywhere?

Kudy - I'll just throw this out there.....I am running a carpool (Adam V on the carpool page) to CM on Friday from my house. Basically just having folks come from the airport and meeting here (3224 S Ferdinand St, 98118) and then we are taking off around 3 for camp. You and your carpool buddies are more than welcome to swing by and hang out (we have beer in the fridge) and if all else fails Columbia City (the hood we live in currently) has great bars and restaurants a block and a half down the street from our house. And fair warning, we have two kids and a dog......the dog's nice....the kids....depends on their mood! :)
If anyone is interested in meeting up for a beer at Chuck's Hop Shop on 85th between now and then, let's pick a date. Pretty much any day other than June 30th or July 5th work for me.
Yes, please!
Where: Chuck's Hop Shop in the Central District http://www.chuckscd.com/
When: Wednesday, September 7 at 6pm +/-
Celebrity MMM guests: encouraged (that means you Jon Snow)
PS: JS - come down! Weather likely not to involve torrential sheets of cold rain.
Never fear JoJo and Jon Snow (alliterates nicely!), there will be more meetups!
At one of the previous meetups, the idea was floated of doing a mini-camp mustache with PNW mustachians, and likely not costing four or five hundred a head. This idea has some merit. Not surprisingly, there is a strong outdoor streak, so it could revolve around camping somewhere nice with conversation around the fire.

Hi all! I'm a new addition to the MMM forum (though I've done my share of lurking) but I figured this is a good a time as any to introduce myself and get to know some people in person - count me in, if I can manage to find the place! If you see somebody that looks like he's underage and out of place, that's probably me. And pointers on how to spot you guys?Welcome! I'll try and bring a couple of 8.5x11 sheets of paper with mustaches printed on them to put on the table.
First day of school for DD and the bank is supposed to call me back tonight about our mortgage payoff, so I'll have to miss tonight, too. Hope you all have fun!
Let's have another one fairly soon -- maybe at the Greenwood Chucks for us northenders? Week of Sept 19th would be good for me (DD on a school trip that week, so parental responsibilities reduced)

I'm attending a charity event on the 18th...but should be available for the week of the 19th. A location with a hotel within walking distance would be peachy as I'll probably do an overnighter if I do drive down for one of these. :)

This idea was discussed towards the end of the evening last night. How many would be interested in this and, if interested, where would people fall on the primitive camping to rooms with heat and electricity scale?
I'd be interested, either camping or glamping. Sadly for me, October wouldn't work, but will be keen to hear about the adventures if folks can go this autumn!
Timing? If camping oriented, probably mid October or wait until the spring.
In the meanwhile, will be attempting to propitiate the rain gods so JS dies not experience a reprise of the torrents of rain he encountered last winter!
JS, I PMed you with another possible option.

Timing? If camping oriented, probably mid October or wait until the spring.

I'd be interested in camping/glamping too, and I think I could do something mid-october. We camped in Leavenworth one October (climbing during the day and beer at night!) at the Alpine View RV park and campground and it is walking distance to most hotels and (more important for October than other times of the year) has warm bathrooms with plumbing. A set-up like that might be nice so people can camp, RV, or stay in a hotel and still hang out. The east side of the mountains is a bit better weather at that time of year too.
FiFoFum, are you interested in living with other people? It can be a great way to integrate into a new community, and you typically save on your bottom line. It's been a long time, but I remember finding some cool house shares when I was looking around the area.
Sorry to request a change, but could we possible switch the Chuck's date to Tuesday, 9/20? I just realized the first PTA meeting at my daughter's school is scheduled for the evening of the 21st. If the 20th is a no go for most people who have already expressed an interest in the 21st, we can keep things as is. I will probably just choose to be a negligent parent -- the PTA has survived without me so far, right? But if switching is feasible for most people, that would help me feel less guilty.

Either evening works for me. lhamo, have you checked with Jon Snow? I recall you mentioned that he might drop in.
Don't think I'll be able to make a Greenlake walk/run tomorrow, but would be up for it another time soon if we do this again.
I suggest JS borrow my camp mustache shirt and do endless laps around green lake tomorrow so everyone can swing by and find him easily
hey -- don't let Amesenator take credit for my garage band name! To give credit where credit is due, though, Glenstache was the originator of the title. I just put the Seattle grunge spin on it. To prove my Seattle grunge era street cred, obviously :)
Totally thrilled at how many folks turned out last night, and that we managed to fit around a set of tables, mostly. But I think the consensus is we need a quieter/cheaper place for the next meetup. Tacos and $2 beer were discussed. Can whoever knows the place for that give us a name/location? And maybe organize the next meetup. I'm all extroverted out for a bit (though I am totally wired in a good way from all the great conversation, etc).
Posting to follow as I'm headed up that way. Tahoe house fell thru so looking for new digs and I hear there's beer up there. Blasting out of this hot smoggy hellhole on Sunday and headed north to Wa via western Utah, Wy, Montana and Idaho. Hope to catch the next meet up.

Hell yeah.
WHOA!!!! JS and I were plotting today as we basked in the sun reflecting off green lake on how we were going to lure you into our PNW clutches -- I swear, I did NOT engineer your other gig falling through, though....
I know you like to play it by ear, but let us know as the trip progresses what your ETA might be. I hope we can get you here before JS heads down to Baja.
Not to sound desperate or anything, but I HAVE TO MEET YOU IN PERSON!!!!!!! It's a bucket list thing.
10/12 meetup now posted over to the fb page too. Thanks for organizing, Sailor Sam!
Soon to be Seattle transplant checking in. I won't make this meetup but hoping to catch the next one.
I hear y'all like Vanguard andbeerale. We're going to be great friends.
If you are buying a Japanese car I cannot say enough good things about #1 Japanese Auto in Greenwood. Tony is the man!
Lioe's in Beacon Hill does free pre-buy inspections and is great, as is CMarr in the ID. CMarr is my regular mechanic but they were too busy when I needed an inspection, so I went to Lioe's instead. They kept me from buying what would have been a very bad car! I have a lot of friends who go to both of them and it is always a competition about which is better. They are both great -- very honest, friendly, reasonably priced, and don't treat you like an idiot.
I am a modern, inclusive drinker. Shouldn't be a problem.Soon to be Seattle transplant checking in. I won't make this meetup but hoping to catch the next one.

Hey Paul der Krake, welcome soon! One minute, tiny, inconsequential correction. Seattle has ale, not beer. If you like ale, you will be in an almost literal hog heaven. If you happen to prefer lager, or something that's not ale, biiiiiig problem.
I don't mind organizing the next Great Seattle Meetup. I can't promise any celebrities like Jon_Snow or Spartana, though. I just ain't that cool.Something just came up that I will have to be out of town for on Wednesday. Keep my seat warm for the next one.
How about 12-Oct, at Northlake Pizza, around 1800? (click-y for map-y (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Northlake+Tavern+%26+Pizza+House/@47.6547062,-122.3235257,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x549014f120bf427d:0x9c51e511a137eee2!8m2!3d47.6547026!4d-122.321337)). Good beer, good pizza, interesting ambiance, easy parking.
Any interest?
10/12 sounds good.
Note that Northlake Tavern is a 21 and over establishment... so no mini-staches would be able to attend.
What is the parking situation around there?
PowerMustache - no worries on the check, it happens. Pay it back or pay it forward, I figure those things eventually equal out over time. :-)
I'm feeling the need for a meetup!
Proposed time/place: Friday, November 11 (Veteran's Day), 3:30pm, public meeting space near Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Third+Place+Books/@47.754297,-122.279594,14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xf435b2011c4e6e0b!8m2!3d47.7542973!4d-122.2795935?hl=en-US
I'll do my best to snag some tables near the chess set. This is a place that works with BYO food/non-alcoholic drink. There is also a cafe for those who want to treat themselves.
Changed the time to afternoon to accommodate the possible appearance of Bracken Joy and monstermonster, who are making noises about driving up from OR. Unfortunately I think Jon Snow will be in Baja by then. Maybe he can teleport in some deep fried poblanos....
Saturday, Feb 25 Meetup
Early bird eats worms and all that. I will be in Seattle in February! Anyone who's interested in meeting up on Saturday the 25, pm me your email. Coordinating is easier that way.
Location suggestions welcome. Most likely will be in the afternoon.
I found a big space in the NE corner - look for a row of five tables with green mustache sticky notes on them. Bracken joy and monster monster are coming but I don't know if there will be Bowie costumes and platform shoes. See y'all soon!
Can anyone who's interested in attending a December meetup please fill-in this Doodle?
http://doodle.com/poll/bfzg8xk9x4b3cxcu
Once we have quorum on a date, we can discuss timing and location.
I think all who participated agreed that the recent Seattle travel meetup extravaganza last weekend was a rousing good time.
In the interest of keeping that momentum going, I suggest getting another Seattle meetup on the books. How about Tuesday March 14th at 6pm? Chucks in the CD seems to work pretty well.

Ugh...don't tempt me man.
My SO and I just recently moved here from NYC/Philadelphia and would love to meet the Seattle gang and join the March 14th meetup. Any updates on details?Great! Welcome to the PNW! Details are still the same for 6pm on 3/14 at Chuck's Hop Shop (delicious beer in the Central District neighborhood).
I am so there on the 14th. Do they serve pi?

Too bad wife and I will be in town 15-17th! Sad will miss the mustachian folk :(

I have a graphic design class from 6:30-9:30 so I won't be able to join. Have fun!Would shifting to Wed May 3 work for you? You got the ball rolling, so it would be nice if you could make it!
Thursday on the 4th plz plz
Always imbibe on Thursday because nobody will notice how little work you do on Friday. A rule to live by for us working stiffs.Thursday on the 4th plz plz
LOL. How about May the fourth (be with you)?
I'll be in Seattle for a bit starting next week, but have weekends booked (darn all those friends who have, like, jobs on the weekdays!).So you're saying we're not at the top of your list?!?
Brand new to the forum, but hoping to get in on this meetup. I'm just South of Chucks. Looking forward to this!
- cheap ways to get bikes to Europe
Another great option not far from Chucks is Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery on 85th and Greenwood. They have plenty of space and you can bring your own food or order from next door as well.
Agreed that Chuck's on a Thursday would be rough. Better off with a bigger and generally less crowed space like Peddler or Populuxe.
Hello all,
I would like to attend this meet up. Will there be a official date, time and place announcement? If so keep me in the loop and I will try to make it. I live in West. Thanks.
Let's do Thursday May 4 at 6pm.
It seems like we have enough responders that Chucks will be a hard venue to make work. There are a number of other locations that could also work. I suggest that we meet at The Bergschrund because they have a side room with tables that we could probably mostly take over.
The Bersgschrund is at:
4818 17th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107
Here's a google link to make things easier.
https://goo.gl/maps/bj8BTGK67Ew
The Bergschrund is the taproom for the NW Peaks Brewing. I like it because they have maps in the tables, and lots of books and stuff on the walls to make me want to get out into the mountains. And the guys who run it have been very good at supporting local bike events, so I like to steer business their way.
Sorry I missed this one, but really enjoying my blogger convention (thanks open bar!!!).
Seriously. Last time Mon-Wed worked, but everyone picked Thurs. We'll be back in town Memorial Day weekend (for Camp Mustache and a wedding), but can't make the Thursday day before CM Gasworks meetup. :P
Maybe after Memorial Day or something? The Gasworks tends to be fun for those that haven't met Pete yet though, but less intimate than most, I imagine.
Arebelspy, can you confirm what dates CM is, and what would be a good date relative to that for those passing through the night before to have a meetup?
The previous ones all were organized (what little organization it took) based on someone knowing the schedule of people passing through en route to CM. Sounds like we now have that. I'll post something separate in this thread and also to the WA facebook group for Thursday at 6:30.Arebelspy, can you confirm what dates CM is, and what would be a good date relative to that for those passing through the night before to have a meetup?
CM is Memorial Day weekend. Next Fri - the following Monday.
There's always an MMM meetup in Gasworks park the night before (next Thursday night).
Glen's post and facebook event says 630, MMM says 530 on the blog/twitter.
Which is it?
I hope no Mustachians were involved in this!Another mortgage prepayment discussion that got out of hand...

I enjoyed meeting everyone who made it out to Gasworks last month. In fact I got so involved in conversation that I missed out on meeting MMM himself! I heard that this group met somewhat regularly, and I was wondering if just checking this thread was the best way to stay updated or if there was a Facebook or Meetup page somewhere. Thanks!

Let's meet up again!
I'm going to propose Saturday, September 16 at Noon.
I think the Genesee Park spot (by 3801 S Alaska) is working quite well, but open to other ideas as well.

Hopefully it's obvious, elsewise I'll be taking a walk around it until I spot a flock of fiscally responsible people talking about how hard it is to get into real estate in Seattle lolWell I for one will do my best to appear fiscally responsible, then.
Whoa Arebelsby. I grew up in Brier. My parents are still there. Loads of people near Brier don't even know Brier exists! How freakin' random is this? The main moderator of the forum that I've been reading obsessively for the last year is in my home town when he could be studying Tai Chi in China or some such thing.
Is this a potluck or not? Don't want to show up empty-handed if it is.
I'll try to show up for a bit toward the beginning, but at some point I'll have to run off to a friend's kid's first birthday party.

Oh man, I didn't realize this was you! We really should have said screen names, too. On my drive home I was like "Oh, Paul.d.k. was supposed to show up, guess he couldn't make it......wait. He probably was there, but with a different name than Paul!" :P
Indeed, Paul was there too. He was the guy in the lawn chair.
I do not use Facebook so I can't comment there, but I like the sound of Saturday the 4th, 1 pm at Green Lake park. Is there any other info I'm missing from the FB group post?
I propose another meet up
When!? Saturday, December 9th, 1-4pm
Where!? 3929 Stone Way N, Seattle (it's in Wallingford/Fremont)
One of the members was kind enough to let us use her office/house (depending on size) for the meetup.
If you use facebook, https://www.facebook.com/events/534068403596037/ (https://www.facebook.com/events/534068403596037/) is the event page. If anything changes (like when or where) I'll post the update here as well.

Thanks for putting another one together.
I wasn't able to make Saturday's meetup, but would definitely be up for an end of year get-together.
IIRC, last time we went to Belltown pizza (http://belltownpizza.net/), which I thought was pretty good. Chucks (https://chuckscd.wordpress.com/) in the central district is also a popular MMM site (although it's a bar, so it'd be a no go for Annabelle -- and I assume Ali can't drink).
3rd Place Books in Lake Forest Park or something?
Great! TPB it is!You must have meant December 30th, since January 30th isn't between Christmas and New Years :)
How about Saturday, January 30th at noon?
(I am literally just throwing something out there, and pretty much any date/time works for us, so if that doesn't work for you, or if a weekday evening is better or whatever, speak up! :) )
Friday, Dec. 29 @ 3 P.M. at TPB works for me.
Is doing it on a saturday or a little later on friday not a possibility for those of us that work?

That Saturday didn't work for GS, but later Fri could certainly work. Can you propose a time that works for you?
Thanks again, arebelspy, for suggesting. It was fun meeting and talking with everyone again!
Thanks to everyone who showed up yesterday!I've got a solid date, let's meet again!
Michele is offering to host again tentatively in early February - the details are still being worked out but I'll update you when we have more solid dates.

Thanks GS (and our gracious hosts) for a great meetup on Saturday! Thanks FiveSigmas. I'm definitely interested, it's something that's been on my bucket list ever since hearing about it.
I think I recall someone asking about the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride. The event is in July, but registration for 2018 just opened yesterday:
https://cascade.org/rides-major-rides/kaiser-permanente-stp-presented-alaska-airlines
If you're interested, book now (tickets go pretty quickly).
Hello,
I am new to the forum(today) and fairly new to Seattle(here almost a year and half). I would love to come to the meet up. Is anything required or just show up?
Regards,
Has everyone got their King County property tax assessments? Mine went from about 3600 to 5400. Can't believe it.
Might be time to sell. I'm part time at work and am close to RE. It's too expensive to keep if I'm out of town most of the time and too expensive to rent (could maybe rent for $2200 but calculate the monthly expenses to be $1150, excluding one-off expenses like finding a renter, cleaning, and repairs).

March 10 (Saturday) from 1-4pm.

Let's meet again in April. Since it's tax season, I pushed the meetup back until after taxes are due.
When? April 21st, 1-4pm
Where? Wallingford Playfield (https://goo.gl/maps/kns1qTgwEKt), but a fallback of CRD Design Build (https://goo.gl/maps/DjyNZPbUtXm) if the weather is bad (hopefully it's not!)
Like always, I've cross-posted the event on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/885781311602288/

I'm curious if there are other folks from Seattle who plan to return to a local rural area when they retire? And if so, where are you thinking of going?
Any chance there is a PNW town that is already being taken over by mustachians? :)

What do people do during these meetups? I live nearby, and I'm interested in meeting fellow FI literate people. Or, I suppose, seeing if any of my existing friends show up :)

Hey everyone!
I have just moved to Seattle area from Prague. I am reading MMM for over a year already and would love to meet up with some like minded people. The link to the Facebook event doesn't work for me. I get an error message that the content is not available right now. Is there any fb group to join?
Try joining Washington Mustachians (https://m.facebook.com/groups/1051424764875648?id=1051424764875648&ref=content_filter&_rdr) first.

You guys all know that retired Washington mustachians don't have to pay property taxes, right? If your combined household income is under $57k, you can defer your property taxes until you sell your home. They accrue interest in the interim, but you're not paying it so what does it matter?
Details are under the "Limited Income" tab: https://dor.wa.gov/find-taxes-rates/property-tax/property-tax-exemptions-and-deferrals

In capitalist United States, Facebook refuses you.
That said, GS has kindly promised to cross-post all event announcements to this thread.
Hello Seattleites! Gray Matter and 94 will be in Seattle next week and are available for a casual meet-up on Friday evening (May 18) if anyone is interested.
We're staying in the Belltown area and have no knowledge of good meet-up spots, but are willing to travel by foot or public transportation is someone has a recommendation.

Hello!
We wouldn't mind hanging out with some fellow mustachians this Friday. If the weather is nice, I'd like to suggest Myrtle Edwards park. I think the three rocks could make a good meeting spot.

To make us easier to recognize, there's two of us: a 5' asian girl and a 6'1" white guy with long curly hair.
It was fantastic meeting @bandk last night! Such an interesting couple--living the dream mustachian life in Seattle! I sure hope you start a journal and share your story with all of us as you head toward FIRE! :-)Yeah, it was really awesome to meet you guys too! Thanks for sharing all the cool stories and photos of Guantanamo Bay, your sweet camper, etc!
Wish I could have made it, but 6 is too close to Annabelle's bedtime (of 6:45) when the place was 30min away (we'd have had to be there from 6-6:15, then leave).
5pm (or earlier, like afternoon) tends to work better for us.
How long are you two in town for?

GM and I both left Seattle yesterday. :(
I will be back up there in August as I drive up to Canada, so I would like to try to see some Seattle peeps again at that point. Don't know where you'll be at that time, Rebel. If I don't see you then, looks like I will see you at CM*TO in September!
With Camp Mustache Seattle having just happened, is anyone interested in meeting, maybe sometime in June?
Oh right, I remember seeing that. I'm actually camping that weekend too, but with a different group of friends so I won't get a chance to go.With Camp Mustache Seattle having just happened, is anyone interested in meeting, maybe sometime in June?
Yes! See: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/meetups-and-social-events/vancouverseattle-camping-meetup-june-910-2018-(bellingham-washington)/ (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/meetups-and-social-events/vancouverseattle-camping-meetup-june-910-2018-(bellingham-washington)/)
Martin Way Mobile Home Park. It is south of Seattle by a bit, maybe an hour depending on traffic. It is just west of Marvin Rd on Martin Way, which is just off the I5. There is the train to get to SeaTac, I believe. I used a shuttle service when I lived there, not cheap but doable. I lived there 10 years ago when I worked at the Post. There are a few other smaller parks in the area. A Costco in sight, and grocery stores in walking distance. Not far at all from the Sound. with a nice State Park on the water just up Marvin Road on the other side of I5. It is a 55+ park, but they gave me some lattitude as I had just turned 54. A lot depends on how full they are, I think. Current reviews are mostly ok. Lacey is between Tacoma and Olympia, literally each is a couple of Interstate exits each way.Thank you @shadowmoss, I'll look into it!

@Daisy, not anything that I know of, but if you want to throw something out there for one of the days you're in town I'd be happy to join in if I'm able (as I'm sure others would be too)

Sounds good.
I arrive on Saturday, October 6th at night. I suppose for those working types, meeting on Sunday, October 7th may be best? How about Sunday night? I don't know the area, so pick a place. I will be staying around the Harrison Ridge Greenbelt, but can probably meet anywhere. I will be visiting a friend that works at Microsoft during the week...another possible area.
If you'd like to meet during the week that would be fine too.

There's a place not too far from you called Chuck's Hop Shop that's a casual place to meet. Do you want to try for Sunday around 6 or 6:30, or try a week day?
I'll be at Chuck's closer to 6:30 (I'll be wearing a green sweater). See everyone then!
Anyone near the Lynnwood area? My wife and I just moved here and it'd be great to meet up with other Mustachians!

We've been MIA for a bit (we had a kid and another one is one the way!) but I thought I'd check in to see when the next get-together is. It looks like we missed the October one but how's November 3rd or 17th for everyone?
And welcome (back?) arebelspy and family!
Any venue suggestions? Should we do Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park again?
To get a date on the books so people can plan, how about the 17th at Third Place LFP? Maybe 1pm-4pm (or whenever people feel like wrapping up)?

sounds good to me! Looking forward to meeting folks as this will be my first meetup.
Happy new year everyone! Anyone want to meet up this month? @bandk, @arebelspy, @FiveSigmas, @FIFoFum, others?
May I invite myself? Out of town the 18th-20th, but otherwise around.

Of course! I was only tagging a few people I knew were likely to respond, but anyone is welcome to join.
Tentatively, then, how does the weekend of the 26th sound?

I haven't heard any objections yet to the 12th. Would that work with you?

Any one want to move the meetup to downtown? I hear the traffic is supposed to be pretty good. ;-)If you (or anyone else nearby) show up at my place in LQA I will be happy to give you a ride.
TPB tomorrow @1 works for me (unfortunately I don’t think I can’t make it any earlier).
Greetings, Seattle MMM friends!
I just discovered that on April 13th there is a "Great Puzzle Hunt" up in Bellingham at WWU. It's a giant, all-day scavenger hunt with puzzles/riddles; apparently they're doing it for the fourth year in a row.
https://www.greatpuzzlehunt.com/ (https://www.greatpuzzlehunt.com/)
I heard about it from someone who's gone the past two years and said it was very good, and highly recommended it if you like those sort of things (escape rooms and such).
It is $10 per person, up to 6-person teams. I was thinking it might be fun to do with a group of MMM friends. Anyone interested in signing up for a team with me? We could very easily car pool up and back. Ali and I need four more people who love puzzles and are willing to have fun and laugh, even if we don't do well. PM me if that sounds fun to you. :D
Canadians or Bellingham Mustachians wanting to meet us there are more than welcome too!
Hi all,
Hello from this Australian attending Camp Mustache from May 24-27!
I hear there is often a pre-camp meetup with the greater Mustachian group in Seattle. I'll be in town a few days early. Just wondering if there are already plans for a meetup around Thu May 23?
Michelle @ FrugalityandFreedom
My vote would be to rent a car, go over to the peninsula, and see the Ho national rainforest.

But there's so many beautiful areas in Washington, it's hard to go wrong.
Let's say there is a hypothetical person that won a last-minute ticket to Camp Mustache Seattle. And then let's say this person may want to extend the trip to see some of the national parks or monuments in the area after camp.
Which national park would you prefer for someone who hasn't seen either? Olympic or North Cascades? Or something else?
Would this hypothetical person need to rent a car to get there and or get around once in the park or is there good public transportation?
Any suggestions on cheap places to stay?
Okay this hypothetical person is me ...
You will likely end up needing a car regardless of the park you choose to visit. You do have the option to wing it once you get here based on the weather. Rainier is beautiful, but a bit underwhelming if things are socked in with clouds. If super rainy, then the rain forest and Pacific coast parts of Olympic are better options (though can be VERY wet).My vote would be to rent a car, go over to the peninsula, and see the Ho national rainforest.

That looks really cool! Thanks!
It looks to be in Olympic National Park.
It sounds like I need a car then. ;-)

We hope to see you there!
I'm back! Or will be, for the first couple weeks of January. Who's down for a meetup, maybe the weekend of Jan 11-12? Also up for mid-week hangs/hikes.

I'm game!
If the Seahawks win this weekend, my schedule will depend on when they're playing next weekend (yes, I watch the blood sport as a family bonding activity, and I enjoy it :) ).
ars said they might be able to host up in Lynnwood. Would people be okay with that area?
We just saw this and already have plans Friday but hopefully we'll make the next one. After settling in with our second little guy, we'd like to reconnect with more MMM folks this year.
So sad my fiancé and I missed this last year! Please let us know about the next one, we just bought the game scrabble to play that we can bring!
Can’t wait for the next Seattle Mustachian meetup!
Even though you guys are 250 miles away from me I must say I've had a blast the few times I've come. The 2017 get together was great fun, indeed.
The over night deal was my fav.. When was that like 3 years ago?
Man, I'd totally be up for another meetup, if this COVID stuff wasn't so awful right now.
Post-vaccine, I'm totally down for hosting stuff. :)
Would also be up for an outdoor six-feet apart, masks on meetup in the meantime.

Any way we can meet up safely, I am down. How have the virtual meetings been? @firemondays
What type of board games do you guys play? We used to get together on the Microsoft campus and play stuff like Imperial, Medina, Powergrid, Puerto Rico, etc.
Depends on the group how casual or hardcore, but we definitely play Eurogames like those listed. :)
Social deduction games are also fun, as are more casual ones. The Mustachian meetups are mostly an excuse to hang out and chat, but there's also more hardcore gaming ones if you're more about that.
Joining the thread, as I see you've had some meetups in Bellingham, which happens to be where we're moving (to coastFIRE) in a couple of months. Might be up for the occasional Seattle-area meetup if the situation is right, since we'll be down that way from time to time.I'll be spending more time in B'ham in the coming years as I shift to coast mode as well. Do you have housing lined up there yet? The market is stupid insane there right now.

Friday August 20 anyone?I'd be in. This is right in the middle of our month long stay in Olympia. We would love to meet some Seattle area mustachians!
Friday August 20 anyone?Interested. Whereabouts?
Friday August 20 anyone?
I'll throw out an idea, but open to other proposals.
Green Lake at 6pm?
Not being from the area, is there anything I need to know about Green Lake? Is there just one parking lot and the meet up spot will be obvious?
It was great to meet you guys! Let’s go on a hike sometime!
I'll have to keep an eye on this thread now that I'm yet another Seattleite on the forum.
Just moved up to Seattle
