Hey Saskatoon and area Mustachians,

From a quick search it looks like there was a meetup a few years ago. Anyone in the area interested in getting together again? Would be lovely to meet some like minded people!

Cheers

Hey Everyone,

I wasn't sure if we had interest for the 17th so I made May Long plans! Darn.

Does the 24th work for everyone? Does anyone have a meeting place suggestion? My go to would just be the Broadway Roastery but I'd game for something more interesting!

It slipped my mind as well and I made an appointment for tomorrow, that might end up taking most of the day. I'm on holidays in town next week, the 24th is fine. A big part of this forum is lifestyle, long weekends are meant to be enjoyed.

@ginfal, welcome to the forums.

@Prairie Moustache, its been a long time since I visited the Broadway roastery (on Broadway I presume, not 8th), it's not part of my usual routine. Its a pretty great location for acessibilty, I hope its as good as I remember for coffee.

Thanks! Hello everyone.

The 24th location works for me.  Just depends on the timing... I'm one of those side-hustle people and have odd jobs throughout the day with space in between.

Looking forward to it

I would be able to make it there for 5:30 if that works, that's the earliest I can be there after work unfortunately! I should be good for an hour and a half of conversation but have a volunteering commitment that popped up at 7:30!

I can post in here what I'm wearing tomorrow to make it slightly easier to find each other!

Thanks for coming out yesterday @Prairie Stash, was good to get to know a fellow mustachian in this city! We discussed meeting up again in the future, and potentially doing a picnic/BBQ at a public park but feel free to put your own ideas out there as well.

I'd be interested in meetups that involve learning new skills, gardening, small projects, etc. so feel free to throw some ideas out there!

Thought I'd mention in here that it looks like MMM's singer/songwriter brother who he occasionally mentions in his blog is passing through town on August 15th, playing at the Black Cat Tavern. Would be nice to see some Mustachian support out for some live music in our city!

Hey folks, now that fall is in full swing and everyone is back from summer trips etc. I figured it might be nice to try and organize a meetup. What do people think of meeting up at the Farmer's Market next Saturday morning (Oct. 20th) around 10:00 AM?

Let me know what you think!

Definitely am in Saskatoon however I spend my weeks out at a mine site so am only around on weekends lately.

Unfortunately that means 7 days worth of chores, errands, prep cooking for DW, etc  to be done in 2 days off. Hoping to get back to Saskatoon shortly through work so will have more time freed up!

Hey Prairie Moustache!

I'd be up for getting a more regular thing going, get up to some frugal fun. Snowshoeing anyone? ;)
We may need to see how many folks are going to see this and are available first though.
Sounds like Saskatchewstachian isn't really around town right now, I'm hit and miss on weekends but I'm in town during the week.
Anyone else here? :)

I'm around town most of the time in the evenings and most evenings! Snow shoeing sounds great to me, we might have to wait for a good dump though with these moderate temps! I'll have to borrow some snowshoes from my brother, but he has a few pairs because he's a Special Olympics pro athlete so it shouldn't be a problem. If we keep the conversation going we might catch a few more folks!

My snowshoes are up at the cabin right now anyway, and I won't be back up there for awhile.
I don't really have my heart set on it, just trying to think of some frugal activities.
I'd be game for just trying to get some folks together for coffee or beer somewhere as well if we can rustle up some interest.

How does either this Wednesday at 7:30 work at the Broadway Roastery (on Broadway) or next Tuesday (Dec. 3) same time same place? I'd be down for a beer too and would welcome suggestions! I'm in close proximity to the Broadway area so anywhere around there/downtown would be nifty for me.

Sure, Wednesday at the Roastery works for me, that's walking distance from my house so it's my usual go to.

As for beer, pretty much everything around Broadway is kind of expensive.
I haven't bought a beer anywhere in close to a year, but I would normally go to Fin's at the foot of the University Bridge. It was usually quiet and had free popcorn :)

Sounds good! I'll meet you there. Good call on the beer, it's bloody expensive - I'm slowly convincing most of my friends that it's better to imbibe at home, with alcohol you've brewed yourself for a little over a dollar a litre... I'll most likely be wearing a blue patagonia jacket, in order to pick me out of the crowd.

You bet, at this point in my life I'd rather drink a beer out by the fire or sitting on my deck ;)
According to Prairie Stash's journal he brews his own too, maybe we'll have to have a taste off or something someday? ;)

I'm sure there are more of us around, the whole city is full of Mennonites after all :p
Sorry we'll miss you Prairie Stash, hopefully next time!

I'll be the grumpy looking bald guy with a beard wearing a red/white jacket.

Too bad that I missed the get together but I've been following the thread. Good to know there are others around!

Also good to know there are other brewers around. I am an absolute novice (as in completed two batches ever) of cider but love the process. Paddockwood in Sutherland has great supplies for cider and with cheap apple juice it can come out to ~90cents/L. After a few more batches to solidify the recipe I'll be sure to bring some to a future get together.

Nice meeting you!
Hopefully we can get a few more people together once in awhile going forward.

The blog was http://financialuproar.com/ he's got a lot of opinions, some seem pretty dubious but for the most part his writing is kind of fun and there is some really great content on there if you dig around.

Oh man, I've never made any alcohol myself, you guys might inspire me here though. I pick a lot of berries during the summer up at my cabin and I loved the idea of doing something a bit more exciting with them ;)

Hope to see you around next time Saskatchewastachian!

Thanks for the link! As with most of us, I can always use more opinions in my life. Haha.

Perhaps we'll have to incorporate some of those berries into a cider! I'm still rather self conscious of my alcohol productions so I may need to refine my recipe before I share it with good mustachian folks!

Hi Saskatoon folks! I have a few proposals for future meetups. I've been doing a lot of cross country skiing as of late, and it would be nice to make it slightly more social, as it is a pretty solitary activity (which is good sometimes)!

Meetup idea: Cross country skiing on a Saturday/Sunday morning and then coffee/tea at Mystic Java

Second idea: Well I've met two mustachians in the city, and they both didn't seem like serial killers so I'll offer up my apartment for a potluck in late January (thinking the 19th or 26th). If anyone has a better venue we could consider that too!

Happy holidays everyone!

I'd be up for skiing some weekend that I'm around town!
I just got back into it this year, so I may not exactly know what I'm doing :)

Potluck sounds like it could be fun too, I'll be out of the country on the 26th but the 19th should work for me if we can rustle up some interest.

Thanks for putting some thought into this,
Happy Holidays!

Welcome! Great to hear from another mustachian in these parts!

The conditions for a ski haven't been great lately so I've been holding off on trying to organize a x country ski meetup. I biked over to Kinsmen park on Tuesday to do a few laps and the snow conditions were pretty brutal with all the wind we've had lately.

The potluck idea is still on the table if we get more interest, but I'd be up to do a another coffee meetup to get to know a few more local mustachians before I offer up my humble abode, haha. Would Jan 18th at the Broadway Roastery (on Broadway) work for anyone? Say like 7 ish?

Hey seanc0x0,
Glad to hear your a local!

Sounds like there are quite a few of us considering the size of Saskatoon. :)

The 18th would work for me, hopefully they're open later on a Friday then they were the last time we were there.

Good call sieben, they close at 8 every day now it appears! Why don't we shoot for 6:30 then as a bit of a buffer? I checked the weather and the forecast for Friday doesn't look quite as conducive to a brisk walk as last time - low of -28 C.

I hope people aren't hibernating because of the weather in our parts, rather unmustachian! ;) Although being cooped up in the winter definitely causes me to spend less money...
