Welcome mustache

I think a potluck is a great idea considering the time of day : )

Oh, so I fixed the map. There happens to be a drop down menu that says "view" or "edit". Imagine that?

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zOVx6McmP_j4.kU-U-m2tMBq8&usp=sharing

Foundapenny, go ahead and move the marker to exactly where it should be.

Potluck MMM Meet Up on April 9th, at 5pm at the park/pavilions east of Dancing Moose Montessori School.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zOVx6McmP_j4.kU-U-m2tMBq8&usp=sharing

Rainy date location is the Barnes & Noble at the South Town Mall

Bring something shareable if you can, if not don't worry about it.

I'll bring homemade hummus with chips : )

I can bring something.  Are we going to BBQ or not?  We could bring a meat and coordinate the sides.  Or just bring things to share without the BBQ?   Also, I am planning on bringing my wife and baby are others planning on bringing family?

I was going to go solo, baby is too little to do much right now and gets tired pretty quick. I'll plan to bring ribs or some kind of meat.

For those that have been to this location before, does the pavilion have BBQ's that require coals?
I can bring a side dish and meat to share.

FYI - My wife and child will join me.

Woops I missed the info from Foundapenny.  If you have a campstove that would probably be easiest.

Some of the pavilions have the metal grill box, but I'll bring a camp stove and a griddle top just to make it easier. I mentioned some Costco dogs earlier in the thread, but if others are bringing meat I can bring some pasta salad for sure and maybe something else as well.

I'll have me for sure. If my wife and daughter happen to come (unlikely, but possible) they won't need meat.

So we don't have duplication of efforts.  I thought I would post what I am bringing to share:

Kielbasa
Sourkraut
Shrimp salad
Beer

There will be three in my party, myself and my wife and an infant.

Also, since I haven't met anyone before, could someone send me the number so I can can call when I arrive to find the group?  Mine is 404.923.0467

See you tonight.

Good call Benjamin,

I'll be bringing a vegetarian snack of hummus and crackers/chips, and some beer as well.

My number is 385-275-6425.

I'm hoping Foundapenny can maneuver the marker on the google map to where to meet specifically. I moved it to the parking area which appears to be by the pavilions.

You've got it marked right. There are seven pavilions right there off that parking lot, so we'll just have to see what's open when we arrive. I'm going to try to get there about 10-15 minutes early.

I'll be bringing a macaroni salad, the camp stove and cooktop.

Absolutely. Good times. Let's do it again in 4-6 weeks, hopefully with a little bit warmer breeze.

Does anyone have other time of day or day of week preferences?

Options have been Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, 11am, 2pm, 5pm.

2pm hasn't yet made the cut, so I'm considering ditching that and possibly adding 7:30pm.

Saturday has been most popular so far.

Eventually moving to a set date and time, i.e. 2nd Saturday of the month at 5pm, would alleviate this hassle.

Chime in, let me know what you think.

Seems I forgot to follow this thread and missed 2 meetups :(

Saturdays work best for me, non-FI and still a M-F wage slave. I'd also probably bring along my wife and 3 kids (4-8 yo).

Welcome ekimatuan,

I'll probably do one more doodle for the third meet up, and at the end of the meeting we can all decide on a monthly day/time.

See you at the next one.

Sundays actually work best for me.  Saturday mornings more likely than evenings.  I'm an entertainment technician.  My weekends are usually eaten up by shows.  But certainly when a time is decided, I'll do my best to make it to at least one meetup.

The Doodle Poll for the 3rd meet up has been created.

http://doodle.com/poll/cnpkdvrhn62kh2dd

As usual, please let me know if you would like a different date or time for the poll.

Now that we have a couple meet ups under our belt, it would be great to know what you all would like to get out of the meetings.

Examples:

  • Discussion topics lead by someone
  • "Experts" in a particular aspect of Mustachianism, finance, or similar subject
  • Personal stories, grand plans, or other inspirational things
  • Area guides / Ways to save $$ locally / Ways you live efficiently / Tips & Tricks

For example, I'm considering either OMY or a leave of absence, and could share my personal story with my nearly two months off of work and how I could move forward with my SuperPlan.

What do you think would add value to these meet ups? What discussions or topics would you like to hear about? Would you be willing to lead a discussion on the topic/story/etc?

For discussion, I think throwing down the gauntlet would be fun. I'm trying to cut my childcare expenses in half and cut my food/gas expenses by 25% this month. I'd also be curious to know how many years people have left and what kind of retirement people are shooting for. Might be too personal though.

Since we have low numbers, let's postpone this meet up.

Again, if you have other days or times-of-day that you prefer, just let me know.

The 23rd works for me. I'm gone again the 30th. I suspect it'll be hard to pin everyone down during the summer, but we should definitely get something set up even if the attendance is a little less than the past couple. Don't want to lose momentum!

Hello all,

My wife and I just moved to SLC June 1 and have been on the FIREish path for a little over a year. I would much like meeting some like minded people. Looks like something might be in the works for July, our weekends typically always open as we have just moved, so looking forward to a meetup!

Even if my plan fell through, that would only be the three of us getting together. Which would still be cool and all, but hardly the major gathering we had last time around.
