Hello cdnBen!  Old school Board games? or new school?

I am guessing new school.  I might be able to make an appearance!

Hi guys! I also attended CMC2017 this weekend, and it brought back my attention to this thread. I was a bit nervous about meeting fellow mustachians, but now the ice is broken! I am available on the 29th, and I contribute a few games as well (Catan, Coup, Monopoly, Destiny). Is there still room available?

Thanks CdnBen, I am open to learn some new games, and can also bring a vintage Canadian Monopoly game for giggles.

See you then!

Board games sounds like a great meetup! I have a prior commitment, but now it looks like 50/50 chance that will change. Keeping my fingers crossed...

There is limited visitor parking on my street (private road); So if anyone arrives and all the parkings are full, the next street down the road is free street parking, so you can choose anywhere that doesn`t have a NO park here sign, (or a fire hydrant!)

We've got an impressive amount of people! I'm guessing it'll have to be at least two concurrent games at the same time!

If anyone wants to come, but has yet to receive a PM, let me know and i'll send you the details.

Any of the above sounds nice!

We don't quite have the snow for it yet, but is anyone else looking forward to cross-country ski season? Maybe once the snow sets in we can get a meetup in gatineau park or better yet on the SJAM winter trail (free and in the city).

Wouldn't that require people to go out into the cold, when there are so many warmer options? :D

Interested, though I remain packing hard for a move. Should be able to spare a few hours here or there, though.

I'm in for boardgames/light boozing/hanging out/Rock Band (like Karaoke). Less so for pubs/bars/restaurants, more interested in pot-luck options. Cheap bastard over here :p

If anyone else was into Rock Band, I'd bring all the stuff. We'd just need a TV.

I'm interested but have terrible music skills so can't contribute constructively to a Rock Band-type activity. I really like board games though.

There is no bad weather, just the wrong clothing. Think of it - hot chocolate and food on a wood stove in gatineau park! Or easy trails near the river on a great community built resource!

But warm is good to. It's been YEARS since I've played rock band. That's a great game! Surprisingly little musical talent required.

If we get enough people, we can have rockband playing at the SAME TIME as a board game. And then switch/swap places as desired.

There's a wood stove you can use in gatineau park? Is it always running? - Also, why would I want to put a ton of layers on, and go outside, if I'm not on a mountain (firmly in the winter should stay on mountains, or for short duration fort & ice skating). Nowhere else should winter exist.

I don’t know about wood stoves that are “always running” in the Gatineau park but there are cabins you can rent with wood stoves. We’ve been staying at Brown cabin for a few years now every fall; sleeps 17 and has a wood stove. I think it’s on the order of $150-$200 a night depending on the time of year. Not bad if you can split it 17 ways.

There's also day use cabins, with picnic tables and a stove. Can get crowded sometimes, but a great (free with day/season pass) option. Scroll down to "cabins" section here: http://xcskiing.ca/park-notes.html for more details.

Yup!  I know far too much 80’s CanCon for my own good.  I have never played Rockband, but I can clap along with the beat 😜

I'm willing to host a board game night but we live in Barrhaven. I would propose around 7:30 (after the kids are in bed).

I don't know how people feel about travelling to Barrhaven so feel free to say "no way in hell".

Unfortunately we don't have a TV so I don't think we could do Rock Band.

I'd be coming from near the Costco on Merivale, if anyone is around there and needs a ride. I'd be willing to travel out to Barrhaven, lack of Rock Band notwithstanding ;)

Plus, it would seriously wake up the kids.

If other venues volunteer, I'd be bringing rock band, 2 guitars, the drum kit, and 3 microphones (harmonies and backup parts ;))

I'm coming from Westboro, so Barrhaven is definitely doable. Might even be able to bring our TV (it's relatively small so should be packable) if Reggie thinks we can rockband despite sleeping kids.

Maybe I missed this, but do we have a tentative date yet? I'd love to get this in my calendar as December is already getting quite busy with nights booked for things.

Rockband will wake up the kids. People want to start throwing out dates?

So looks like our place won't work but I hope something works out for next week.

Tempting, as I’d love to meet internet people in real life, but I’m taking my son to the Ottawa 67s vs Hull Olympiques game at Lansdowne on the outdoor rink ($15 general admission) on the 17th. I think that’s enough excitement for me for one day.

That sounds like a ton of fun! My family was thinking of going to the Sens game outdoors but decided not worth the cost. This would be way better! Now to fit it around our plans...

@Canadian Ben were you thinking evening or afternoon for board games and rock band?

I'm almost at OMY's level of freedom for December (not working mondays-tue-wed), So I'll leave that point up to others. I'm fine with whenever.

Nice :)   I too can be mostly fine with whatever, since it turns out there are TONS of the cheap outdoor OHL games, so not planning to go on the 17th after all. Just have to be up for work the next morning so can't stay out too late.

Nice :)   I too can be mostly fine with whatever, since it turns out there are TONS of the cheap outdoor OHL games, so not planning to go on the 17th after all. Just have to be up for work the next morning so can't stay out too late.

What other games are there? I’ve never heard of the Olympiques or 67s playing outdoors before. I thought the only two games on the outdoor rink were on the 16th and 17th.

@Canadian Ben  Funny   I've forgotten what day it was at least a dozen times since the end of April.   :)

I'd prefer afternoon to evening activities, as the reduced daylight tends to make me quite sleepy around 6pm.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
