Anyone in the Asheville area?

Yep, I'm just south of Asheville (Fletcher).  If anyone wanted to try to meet up in this area, that would be great!

Long shot, but does anyone in the Triangle know of reasonable people thinking of selling their car? Dealing with craigslist folks who think their vehicle's after market CD player warrants asking $1,000 over Kelly Blue Book is getting old very fast.

Looking for something fuel efficient, preferably Toyota/Honda/Nissan/Mazda with 80-130k miles on the odometer, $2,000-5,000, stick shift preferred.

Maybe us!  2000 Honda civic (100k miles) or accord (166k miles), both very well maintained mechanically (with maintenance records).  Single owner.  Automatics, and the paint sucks so they look like 15 year old cars.

I'm looking for a 6-8 year old minivan with under 130k miles and finding the same thing.  Everything seems to be well over KBB and I can't find any of the lower trim level models (we don't want to pay for the luxury versions!).

Deal is done.  Mr. Der Krake is now the proud new owner of a lightly used 16 year old Civic.  :)

Hold off on the congrats. I tried starting it today for the first time since picking it up last week and the engine doesn't turn. I ended up having it towed to have a shop look at it.

Hello-

New to the MMM forums, have browsed occasionally.  My wife and I did the Dave Ramsey approach to eliminating non-mortgage debt, but are now in a bit of a now-what? quandary.  Would love to get together with some of you crazy Mustachians.

I live about 25 minutes south of Winston-Salem.

Hey TravisS!
Welcome to MMM and congratulations on doing the DR approach. DR is a great way to start on the road to changing your life - if you've completed all the baby steps, you are ready to kick some butt MMM style. Here's a quick link for you to ponder that should give you something to think about on where you want to go next:

https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6211

There are several MMM folks near you - I know because they traveled to recent RTP MMM get-togethers. There are enough of you in the Triad that you could probably do a nice little meet-up.

Hey YC - March 3rd is another Happy Hour at The Frontier in RTP, so it's possible we could dig on one of those. Are you in or near RTP?

How about another weekend meetup to give the folks who don't live in the immediate Triangle area a chance to come? Spring should be upon us soon, that opens up outdoorsy options.

Me too!
We could do Duke gardens again in April when the weather is more reliably nice or Umstead if we want to go a little further south (I think we have some folks driving from south of the triangle...but my NC geography is horrible, so might be wrong)

Would also be cool to do a brewery meetup. Mystery Brewing or Regulator in Hillsborough, Fullsteam in Durham or Gizmo/LoneRider in RTP/Brier Creek area.

Anyone in the Asheville area?

BTW Ricky: I grew up near Asheville - was there just this past weekend. I would be happy to come have a MMM meetup with you guys, especially if it were at Highland or Wicked Weed or any other place fun.

Hell, let me be honest. I'd meet up with you guys in the eating section of an Ingles supermarket. It would be fun as hell to have an MMM meetup in Asheville!!!

Wait, Ingles has a dine in section?  All the ones I've been to seemed kind of shady like a crappy Food Lion (my knowledge of Ingles is probably 10+ years old).  But yeah, I'd totally meet at one of those places in a grocery store.

When Asheville turned into the Hipster Capital of the World, Bob Ingle mashed the gas to the floor on his stores. Now, they make Harris Teeter and Kroger's look like wimps.

The one on Tunnel Road is one of my faves. I love their salad bar, I get a pound of the little red sweet peppers that are about the size and shape of a golf ball and bring them back with me.  Oh, and the buy-one-get-one pork rinds. Chicharrones!

I always check their craft beer section to see what's up. Their prices are killer and often beat buying direct from the brewery.

Commenting so that I can try to get in on the next meet up in the triangle. Sounds like sometime in April at  Duke gardens, Umstead (or maybe Jordan lake?), or a brewery has been discussed. Should a date be selected? Are babies and not-so-mustacian husbands welcome at these things? I have a busy April but hope to be available to meet up.

Hey,

I'm up near Boone.  Our Ingles is lame, guess they ran out of funding for us!  I've been emailing Adli trying to get one here, but no luck.  Aldi rocks for saving $$$.

No mustache yet, but I'm enjoying the reading.  I've got the frugal part down, but the income, saving, and investing parts are missing!

Just installed a wood stove this Winter, so free heat & good exercise.  Bike riding is tough up here, so there's another strike against me.  Can't move because I haven't finished building our house yet, and likely won't until after I retire...(you can't rush a good thing, right?)

Just thought I'd say hello.  :)

In the style of PDK, I'm putting a time out there. I propose, next triangle MMM meetup:

Sunday April 17 at 12:30pm at Duke gardens. Same meeting area as Last years because I can reuse PDK's map. Also I suggest we do a potluck like last year, it was fun.

Every meetup attendee over the age of 5 must bring proof of ownership of Admiral shares in their Roth IRA!

Just kidding, of course. Fidelity funds are fine too.

Duke Gardens potluck lunch - April 24th @ 12:30 (Sunday) in Durham, NC

There is a large grassy area as indicated on this map by the red mark. Duke Gardens is a pretty popular attraction, parking is available.

Last year we set up shop under a tree in the shade, so the exact location may end up being a little off the mark. If this is your first time and the prospect of finding strangers in a mildly crowded area terrifies you, PM me and I will give you my cell phone number in case you get lost. That being said, we've never had issues finding each other.

I routinely talk to total strangers.  It used to really embarrass my wife and children but they've reconciled themselves to it over the decades. :)

I don't normally walk up to strangers and ask to see their mustache, though... :)
