Mustache Map!
« on: December 18, 2012, 05:56:37 PM »
So I created a shared google map to make this easier.

Put a pin in your city with your username on it, and look for other pins in your area.

http://goo.gl/maps/0FV0K

Also, let me know if you can't access it.  I have it set to allow anyone to make changes, but there can always be issues.

Woohoo, people are actually using it.  BTW, you can change your little blue pin to something else when you edit.  I made mine a bicycle as an example :-)

I think you have to log in with a Google account, and then you have the option to click a red "Edit" button on the left-hand side.

Found you!

The only non-US so far.  Surprised no Canadians/Aussies.

Bahaha arebelspy, your face is so huge on the map!

I know, I had to go back to one of their standard avatars.  Annoying it didn't automatically scale.  Oh well.

Kriegsspiel, how did you make yours not have the "last updated by" part when you click your location?

arebelspy,  I drew a stormtrooper icon for you and got it to work out to be the right size.

Cramming it down to 32x32 loses some of the details, but here is the original image
http://i.imgur.com/MdoHb.png

I may have to thicken up some of the lines to make it look punchier scaled.

I was trying to move the map and moved Kudy by mistake.  Whoever that is might want to check the location, I don't know exactly where to move it back to.

I think the key is to not click "edit" until you are ready to drop a pin, and then stop editing before looking elsewhere.

We are deciding between Boulder area or Asheville...

Hmm, not sure, I clicked collaborate, because I didn't know what was going on there, then edit.  Maybe I have some settings on my google account set up to where it won't show it?

Fun app. It provides a roadmap for burglars to know what houses not to rob. No expensive toys laying around these homes.

"Man these houses only have old bikes and big jugs of olive oil, this sucks" - thief

Although, I think most people are just putting approximate locations, since it is a public map.

Exellent, Nords.  Was starting to feel lonely out there.  I want to change my icon to a bike but can't figure it out (stupid user!).  BTW, surf is pretty high out here at Barking Sands, Kauai today - you would love it.

I'm going to have to add that to our list.

Everything I've seen at Barking Sands was through the lens of a periscope... I've spent more time underwater on the range than on the entire island of Kauai.  Pathetic.

Our daughter's been home from college for 10 days and we've been surfing for six of them.  Laniakea, Chun's Reef, White Plains... and Christmas Day dawn patrol coming up!
