I know this is oldish, but I just discovered this. I'm in Billings. Lived in Bozeman for a year while going to MSU but I transferred back. Good to know there are a few of us out there!

I have only been there a few times. Seems like a nice town--obviously the capitol is there and it's a nice area. Lots of hiking and close to some of the best Montana has to offer beauty wise. Pretty affordable too, from what I've heard. I have some friends who live there and could ask them if you are wanting some specifics.

Dillon's a nice little town.  Emphasis on little-- too small for me.  (4-5k.)  I got over there a couple times last year for work.  Very nice people, pretty socially conservative, and I hear a large LDS community.  It's in beautiful country-- great fishing, hiking, skiing around there.  Maybe 40 minutes drive to Butte.

I'm in Helena, ask away! Great to see other Mustachians out there! Just skipped the car and rode my bike to work! Did he end up applying?

Southeastern Montana here!  Otter, if anyone has heard of it, about 160 miles from Billings.  Any one else nearby?

We are back in Montana! Currently, we are in the Missoula area until September 5 then heading to Glacier area until September 12.

We'd love to meet up with some Mustachians in the area(s)!

We just missed you ,  We spent a Aug 5-12 in Whitefish and Bigfork.  Beautiful country, so many great things to do both outdoors and indoors.  And Montana is one of the safest states in the country for Covid!

For you montana residents... What is the order of housing prices, highest to lowest between Billings, Bozeman, Helena and Missoula?

Well, right now everything is blowing up, as everyone and their mother apparently wants to move here post-covid.

Bozeman is definitely the highest, then probably Missoula, Helena and Billings.

I'm not sure about the other cities , but Whitefish prices are  definitely skyrocketing.
The story is that Whitefish is the "next Jackson Hole" .  Good skiing, billionaires moving in and year round activities.

Don't forget the air quality !  /sarcasm.

Taken on the way home today.
You can just see the start of the mountains in the second picture. And the pictures don't really do it justice, I think my camera may be cleaning up the smoke as noise or something.

Bummer! Perhaps next time?!

We are heading North up to Glacier on Sept. 5.  Afterwards, we are slowly heading south as we like to be in the warmer states for winter. Hoping to hit YS and TT and maybe Craters of the Moon on our way south.  Let us know if your travel plans may or could align with ours.

Montana is awesome and am interested in coming back to the area maybe next year.

I'm near Glacier for the next couple days. Leaving before you get here though. :-(

@honeyfill or anyone else in the know. Is there an accurate source for just how crowded the park is these days? I'm debating whether I want to try it this trip. The official website makes it sound pretty miserable but I don't know if that's accurate or preventative.

I don't know of a good way to find out how crowded the park is.
But Adam and Jillian Johnsrud of the FIRE blog "Montana Money Adventures" live in Kalispell and I bet they know.

You might try the Polebridge or Camas Creek entrances.  They are much less crowded and you still see a lot of cool stuff.
