Meetups in Charlotte (15-20 Sep) or San Antonio (21-24 Sep)
« on: August 19, 2015, 03:58:37 PM »
I'll be on the Mainland for most of September, and there's a chance for a meetup or two.

The first two events are Digital CoLab and FinCon15 in Charlotte, NC from 15-20 Sep.  They're both in the downtown Westin (601 South College Street) with a few more gatherings at nearby restaurants and bars.  If you're attending either of those conferences then please look me up-- I'm the middle-aged balding ponytailed surfer in the aloha shirt.

I'll probably be part of the huge crowd of autograph seekers and fanboys clustered around MrMoneyMustache himself.
Eh, just kidding.  The crowd's not really that big.  Not by the third day, anyway.

Both conferences are nearly sold out, but they're very much worth attending and you'll quickly generate more revenue than you spent.

Even if you're not attending those conferences but you happen to be near the Westin, feel free to drop by and say hello.  I'll be fully engaged with Digital CoLab from 8 AM Wed to noon Thu, but I'm not quite so busy during FinCon.  That schedule runs from ~8 AM to late at night but I don't go to each & every event.  We bloggers tend to talk story in the corridors and the exhibition hall, and there's just as much business getting done outside the presentation rooms as inside them.  If you see me chatting with a group, walk over and interrupt us to say hello.  As I've said before, at FinCon you could cut the entrepreneurial spirit in the hallways with a chainsaw.

I'll arrive in San Antonio around 4 PM on Mon 21 Sep for USAA's DigitalMilEx.

Yes, that Kelly Perdew.

If you're a military blogger (or with a military-friendly group) then I strongly encourage you to sign up for this one.  It's not free either, but it's another investment with an ROI.  Slots are limited (and they're going fast) for two days of learning & networking with military influencers.  It's all at the Omni Hotel (9821 Colonnade Boulevard near the USAA campus).  This schedule is probably more from 8 AM -4 PM but the crowd tends to talk story in the Omni lobby until the wee hours.  I'm doing another seminar with USAA on the 24th but my spouse and I have the afternoon/evening free to visit the River Walk again.  I'll know that schedule better on the 21st.

After the USAA conference my spouse and I are catching a military Space A flight back to Spain for another visit with our daughter.  (Her destroyer tour ends next May, so this is our last chance for free lodging in Rota!)  We'll be back on Oahu by Christmas, so I won't be available for surfing meetups until 2016.  Or rather, my surfing during Oct-Dec will be in Cadiz and El Palmar.

Even if you're not going to these conferences, please ask me questions about blogging or about USAA.  If I don't know the answers then I'll certainly know who to ask.  I'm also happy to carry compliments (and gripes) back to USAA.  As some of you know the answers might not be very happy, but at least we'll learn more about how the policy came about.

Bump.

Any questions or gripes for this year's USAA conference?

Hi Nords,
I might be attending the Charlotte Fincon conference.  Will MMM be there all four days?  Do you know what day and time he is speaking at?  I will PM you if I'm attending.  Thanks

Not a clue!  He and Mrs. MM are both on the speakers list, but the schedule doesn't show enough detail yet.  There's plenty to do all four days (plus another day or two on each side) so they'd probably want to be there all four days unless they have other commitments.

I didn't look through every name of every presentation, but here's the schedule:  http://finconexpo.com/schedule/

They might also be participating in roundtables and group discussions as well as their own presentations.  I hope the FinCon app (about to be released) will make it easier to find who's doing what when (and where).

I've learned that MMM is staying home during FinCon, although Mrs. MMM will be giving one of the presentations.  I think he's getting ready for the Ecuador chataqua.

J.D. Roth is here for Digital CoLab (and FinCon) and I saw JLCollinsNH yesterday, so the rest of the usual crowd is gathering.
