I took it upon myself to break out from the SoCal thread (https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/meetups-and-social-events/socal), since transportation seemed like a pretty significant barrier. Although, a regional meeting down the road would be cool - literally, if it is somewhere coastal! Perhaps one day after some local chapters are born.
Anyway, here is the Los Angeles / San Fernando Valley thread. Oh, to live and die in LA...

I'm over west of SFV in ventura county, but it's not as bad as a long distance trip to San Diego.

Hi LA and San Fernando Valley, mustacians, I notice quite a few of you have replied since my last proposal of meeting at "The Dish" in Thousand Oaks. However, no one replied with a confirmation that they would like to meet at the Dish or with a specific alternate plan. I would like to propose that until someone is willing to commit to something , this meetup will never happen.
I would like to propose a date and a place to meet. Unfortunately, The Dish restaurant in TO has closed so it will be a new place.
I would like to propose a Happy Hour meetup at Fitzgerald's Lounge at the Woodland Hills Hilton (Canoga Ave) on Friday night Dec. 13. The Happy Hour runs only until 7pm so the plan would be to arrive as soon as you can after work. I could probably be there by 5:45pm.
Bear with me, I'm not a big barfly so I don't know a lot of places but I used to work right next door to this hotel and came for happy hour here a few times. At the time, there was a fantastic free appetizer spread and cheap drinks. It seems the current deal is 1/2 price appetizers and drinks so not quite as good :-(. Also, the room was quiet so you could talk at the time. The last reviews I've found only are from late 2011 but they confirm things were still good there at the time. If I get a confirmation from any of you good folks, I'll be sure to swing by there before the date just to make sure things are still good there. If anyone confirms, I will be there. No confirmation I won't.
Again, I'm super focused on my early retirement and investments and want to meet like minded people who are as serious and passionate about this as I am. Thanks :-)

Hi guys. Griffith Park is a good location for a valley/LA meetup. So this is what I'm gonna do. I'll be there on Saturday, August 9. Let's plan on 11am - 2pm, and we can do a pot luck, take a short hike, and I'll plan some games to avoid those awkward silences. :) Anyone who is interested, pipe up and let us know what you plan on bringing food wise. I'll bring some homemade applesauce, because I love homemade applesauce and have never made it. This gives me a reason to make it, and you all can be my guinea pigs.
Sometime over the weekend, I'll find a good spot to meet and post that spot back in this thread. If anyone knows much about Griffith Park and knows of a good spot, speak up soon. Otherwise I'll post the spot this weekend.

That's still some time off, so I'll message some of the people above who expressed interest in a meetup, and perhaps we can get a sizeable group together.

I think the 23rd is fine. Our August suddenly filled up crazy fast, and I have some serious work to do for my side business. I'll see how much I can get done on my 1/2-day Fridays in August before I can commit for sure. I forgot how the end of summer gets crazy like this for my business!

Hey guys. I'm sorry to do this, but I'm going to have to back out on the 23rd. I just found out my mom is celebrating her birthday on that day. Her birthday isn't actually that weekend (it's in a couple days), but all the other weekends in August are busy for her.... So I'm going to have to back out. :(
I can still organize something for the 24th if people can make that instead. Let me know if there is interest for that - or someone feel free to organize the 23rd as well. Let me know!

Sure. That's a nice and easy 3-mile bike ride down the bike path for me. Didn't realize the Portos was that close off of the path there. I'm assuming this weekend is not ideal. What about the weekend of Nov 7, 8?

It looks like there are 4 definites (me, seathink, Dorothy, crazy) and 2 possibles (spondulix and Patrick). So potentially 6 total at this point in time. There's also a park down the street a 1/3 mile from there, so we could always saunter down there and hang out if it's too busy.

Thought I might as well give an update to our little meetup...last weekend I think it was. Three of us - myself, Dorothy and Seathink - met up at the Portos in Burbank. I always find it a bit odd when I see other meetups being organized around a place that requires you to spend $, but that is where we met nonetheless! And I did spend money! :) Ha! It was interesting chatting with some other mustachians and I found out a bit about shipping container houses. They seem pretty cool, to be honest.
Anyway, it was a nice little meetup. Until next time....

This is almost irrelevantly far in advance, but I'm planning a move to LA during the summer-- I'd like to bounce a few questions off some of you LA Mustachians about this plan. Mostly they'd be pertaining to the feasibility of landing a reasonably well-paying job as a newcomer, and the situation of Mustachian living there-- biking, not paying thousands per month on rent, etc...
Of course, in exchange for any assistance I'd be happy to return the favor somehow! When I actually arrive, of course. For instance, beer!

Eh, this is the 2nd time this has happened to me on this board. I need to cancel for Jan 30. I just found out that a family gathering has been planned for that same day, and my family meets up like once a year, so it's not something I should miss.

I can't help but think MMM will laugh at our consternation about the weather. We really are spoiled here when overcast skies and the threat of light rain dissuades us.
I'm also sadistically hoping MMM gets of a taste of LA traffic in the rain.

I've been before and it's super pretty, easy enough to bring lawn games etc. and grills for a BYO meat/veg. It's not the farthest from public transit, and I know I'll be biking over. Let me know if anyone would be interested!

My wife and I are going to try and do a moustachian day out in LA. Amtrak it down on Saturday, June 9 (Amtrak has $10/per person unlimited use for a weekend) and do some walking tours we found online before heading back to Moorpark in the evening. We love slow travel so figured it would be an interesting option instead of driving down and paying for parking in the area. If you are interested in joining, you are most welcome.

I know about the OC mustachian group on FB. There’s a ChooseFI OC group too. Both are building activity. But the ChooseFI SD and LA groups are really active. We all kind of blend between up with regards to meetups. Join em all.
