Longmont, CO
« on: September 24, 2012, 10:34:45 PM »
I have noticed there are a fair amount of folks on here from Longmont/Boulder and nearby.  Would any of you all be interested in a real life meetup outside of the interwebs.  Maybe we can even get the big man to come out if we ask nice enough.  That is if his celebrity persona still allows him to associate with mustachians of all levels of growth.

Since it is getting colder, I don't know what we would do.  One idea I have been thinking about is maybe starting an MMM book club at the Longmont library once a month.

Or, maybe just some get together at a one of our great parks.  Lake McIntosh, the park by the Boulder County Fairgrounds, or any of the other parks I don't know the names of?  Is there any interest for this?

I'd be game for this, if I'm in the area at the time.

I'm definitely interested in an in-person meetup. Maybe a hike with periodic "rest stops" where we discuss a particular topic.

Sounds great to me! I think an event in one of the excellent downtown parks would be fun - we could probably use the provided grills or bring one along.. along with some boxed wine or disguised beer, it would have the makings of a nice meeting!

Grilling sounds good to me.  By the way,  MMM, where do you get your boxed wine in Longmont?  I have been avoiding alcohol for the last 6 months except for special occasions.  But, I can definitely bring some to an event like this and partake.

How is that park by Longmont High School?  Do they have grills?

So, that leaves determining a day, I am a weekday working stiff with a stubbly mustache, so this would probably be best on a weekend or a weeknight.  Anyone else have any requests on time or location?

I'm fond of PJ's wine and spirits on Sunset Street for their wine.

For the time, this weekend is busy but next weekend is open for me.

And for the venue - I'd suggest Thompson Park (5th avenue at Bross) as a really nice spot. The park you mentioned near the high school is OK, but Thompson just has a much nicer vibe with the big trees and all.

How many people are actually reading this who would be in the area and interested in joining in?

Saturday October 6th - 3:00PM until whenever.. bring bikes if you got 'em in case the event turns into a touring one!

I might be in.

On another note I like twin peaks liquor. They will price match any ad in Colorado so I do all my shopping before I enter the store.

A Mustache Moot. Sounds like a great idea!

My fiancee and I would definitely be interested for the 6th. We're coming from Boulder, so we could probably bike it in and take the Bolt back if need be. Any other Boulderites want to caravan up there?

Saturday the 6th works for me.  I should be there, unless something unexpected comes up.

Uh-oh.. looks like Colorado has gotten wind of our plans to meet in the park and played a weather joke on us: Saturday is scheduled to be a Snainy mix of precipitation with a high in the low 40s.

So I'd say two reasonable choice would be to:

a) move the event indoors (my house is booked for Ladies' Book Club night so it would have to be somewhere else like Ziggi's coffee shop or something).. or
b)  move it to the next day. Sunday is showing up as fairly sunny and nice.

So my own vote would be plan b) - go for Sunday.

thoughts?

I have a family member turning 90 on Sunday, so I will be out all day Sunday (unless we meet at like 8:00...I doubt anyone would want to do that), so my vote would probably be for somewhere inside on Saturday.  But, then we wouldn't be able to imbibe and enjoy the outdoors which makes for a less than fun event in my opinion

But, don't let me change the plans of the group if everyone (how ever many there are) just wants to move to meeting Sunday.  Just thought I would post where I stand

I'm also booked on Sunday. A friend of mine and I are planning on brewing some beer. I'm providing the hops and he's providing the knowledge/equipment. A pretty mustachian arrangement if I do say so myself ;)

We would probably be able to do something indoors today. Otherwise, we can give it another shot next weekend. We will definitely be free. Plus that would give us time to round up some more interest.

An interesting change in the weather, though one I don't mind.

I won't be able to make it today either, my wife's grandfather just passed away, so we'll be in north Denver with the family. Tomorrow is out for me as well, so my vote (as truly insignificant as it is) would be to postpone for a week.

I'm relatively new around these parts, so don't cancel on my account, I'm sure I'll have opportunities to meet up again (besides which, if we do end up buying a place there in town, I'll need to pick MMM's brain on a few things since the house has a number of "opportunities" for improvement)

*side note: If we get this house, I'll be pretty jazzed, 42 miles closer to work, right off the greenway/bike path thing that runs along the river through town (and who knows where else, does it go all the way into Boulder?) a bit of land for a garden, and lots of opportunities to learn skills fixing the place up.

Yeah - due to the general lack of response to this whole idea, I say we postpone until at least next week. It would be fun to make a bigger event of it.. like if I put the word out on the main blog where more people are reading, instead of just this one secret forum thread.

So for now, have a great weekend everyone!

I would love to meet some Mustachians, especially the blog author.   Maybe it could be more of a planned meetup. Maybe even next summer at a big park.  Announced on the main blog.  I live in the Roaring Fork valley and would like to meet up with like-minded people.
