CO meetup 5-18 at Mutiny Now Cafe in Denver.
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:49:29 AM »
There seems to be a good amount of us in Colorado, and the I-25 range in particular.

Who's for a meetup this summer?  Maybe keep each other on MMM task?

Sounds Great.  I'd be especially interested in finding other mustachians with tradable skills/services.  For example, I'm an attorney and would gladly trade basic estate planning for accounting work, home renovation, etc.  Front Rangers unite!

I'm still pretty useless there, (OK, I could make a passable attempt at tile and drywall, but it wouldn't be pretty...).

However, if you ever need your computer reloaded or simple upgrades, I can do those in my sleep :P.

I'll wait to see how many others chime in (and the weather to stabilize), then we'll plan something.

I'm kind of a wannabe mustachian in Denver, would enjoy meeting like-minded people to provide & get support to stay on the MMM task.

That'd be a blast. I think it would be great to give each other a little moral support.  We have great friends but they LOVE to spend it all.

I'm down. A bit further south (Colorado Springs), but I imagine we can make something work.

Got a couple of other people interested in it as well. Check out the Colorado intro post in the Google+ Community. I also heard from MMM himself this morning, and he's thinking about organizing something this spring, but I'd still be down to schedule something else.

I'm down in the southwestern part of the state, but if you were to organize something in May, on a weekend, I could perhaps get up there and join you.  Oh, and I'm already booked the weekend of May 11th.

A bit. Go camping all throughout CO 7 - 8 times per year, and I really love that part of the state. Been actually thinking about getting a group together to hit up the Rainbow Hot Springs (Pagosa Springs) for a few days. You ever been? 9 Mile there-and-back hike.

No, I have not done that particular trip.

I love bagging peaks in the La Platas and the San Juans!  Need to retire so that I can get in even more camping and hiking!

Check out some of my stuff adventures here. Now a multi day low impact hiking camping mustachian meetup, now that would be awesome.

I will be moving to Denver at the end of May (After the 20th), and I would love a chance to meet with a group of like minded people!

As far as services or goods, I can provide manual labor in exchange for learning skills, but I do not have a great skillset yet.. I am graduating college and am currently looking for work. I would however be more than happy to meet, camp, potluck, play boardgames, etc.

I'll tell you what, the first few weekends of April are a bit full, but maybe.....

Sunday, 5-17?  Parking is free all over downtown on Sundays.  A friend and local businessman has a bookstore on Broadway, and if we give him a bit of notice he could host us easy.  I need to check to see if he's got that day open, but I'm sure it's not too difficult.

Rolling this along, does anyone have any topics they could maybe rattle off a short speech on?

I think the best I could do is say "this is an example of 35 decent saving years wasted".  :P.

Unless I'm insane, and my calendar is lying to me, isn't the 05/17/2014 a Saturday? And are we thinking downtown Denver?

Nope, you're right, 5-18 would be the Sunday.

This is isn't the heart of downtown, but a few miles South.  Right off of 25 and 6th, so it's easy to find.

I would prefer a Saturday, but I'll show up regardless.

I have plenty of stuff to talk about, but I don't think I'm on the same page as you regarding how this is going to look. What are you envisioning?

Ftao93, why did you pick Sunday?

Oh, and NinetyFour, since you are going to be passing me by (Colorado Springs) on your way up, let me know if you want to carpool. I have 2-3 extra seats.

You know, I keep forgetting that it loops back East...for some reason I always thought it connects closer to Grand Junction. Turns out I don't know what I'm talking about. :-)

I messaged him about it the other day, but I haven't heard back. I'll reach out again and see if he's interested.

All that being said, I keep forgetting how far North Longmont is. And re-reading, I think we picked Sunday due to free parking. Maybe we should find a free parking spot and bike the last few miles?

Correct, Jordan, I picked Sunday due to free parking at meters and the relative calm.  Since I ride a scoot parking is usually free wherever, but if people are coming from all over, I wouldn't want them to have to PAY for parking.  Even though it's not downtown proper, there's still a lot of activity in the area, and parking can be a bit tough.  Early-ish on a Sunday shouldn't be an issue for being able to park within a block, if not right up front.

There's plenty of fine (and not so fine) dining in the area.  But I thought it would be nice to gather at a local coffeehaus, share some "how I got on this train" stories, and go from there.  There are local parks and all manner of other festivities too

http://www.mutinyonline.com/ is the place.  A couple of friends own it, and I like supporting them (I mean, if I'm going to overpay for coffee, I would rather support my friends)

That makes sense. I'm going to see if I can find a free parking area within a mile of it, so that we might be able to do Saturday instead. If I can't find one, we'll go ahead with Sunday, but if I can, we'll have a vote to see what works best for everybody.

I've told our fine folks at Mutiny to keep that Sunday, at least the early part, open.  I believe they open at 11.

If Saturday works better for more people I'm sure we can figure it out.  Residential parking in my area is plentiful and I can walk in under 10 min.

I'm not sure whether I will make it.  I will actually be in Denver on the 9th - 11th for a hockey tournament, and think it would be very anti-mustachian to do the drive two weekends in a row.  I wouldn't want to get face punched.  :(

Dude, you look like a rubber chicken. And why are you on that guy's shoulder? :P

As for me, I'm capitalizing on the fact that I don't make it up to Denver socially very often. I've got a beer tasting with a friend the night before, staying with some friends that night, followed by the meetup, followed by other fun stuff with other friends. I'll check in on the event page, and put a picture up. I'll also almost definitely be wearing some type of headband thing, since I hate combing my hair. You can see pictures if you want more at my G+ photos page.

We just wrapped up about 30 min ago.  Jordan and his other half needed to get going.

It was the 4 of us to start.  We were all very chatty :P.

We were thinking of perhaps making it semi-regular, or at Lisa and I discussed that.   Perhaps monthly.

Thanks to the 4 that did show!  It was a worthy time.

While the weather is decent, may schedule one down toward Jordan so that he's not always coming up here.  Maybe we could even be Mustachian, and organize.... A CARPOOL.  If you have a car that is, which I don't :P.
