It seems about time for another meetup. I'm not sure whether it will be too cold for outside, or we should go inside (back to a library - or somewhere different?). Anyway, I've changed the poll.

If it's like today, outside would be perfect! But who knows what May will be like (I haven't turned on my heater yet and it's past ANZAC day o.O).

I can't do 6 May. I have to go to a small child's birthday party plus it's the pumpkin festival in Collector. The other days are free for me atm.

Sorry, I can't do 12 May any more. 19 & 26 May are still ok atm.

Looks like everyone is available on either 19th or 26th. I will check with the local library to see if they have any preference.

Do we have a date yet? I'm getting some pressure with other events etc, but have kept both 19 & 25 free: it would be good to know which one and if its happening soon.

I went to the library yesterday. The room there is supposedly only for the college now - not for worthy others, but they are checking up on it, and on rooms available in other libraries. They are supposed to be getting back to me. Given the date, let's make it next week (25th May), and we could go to a cafe (any suggestions?) if no library is available.

Hmm if public library space is only available for the college I would be very cranky and have something to say about that...even the college website says the library is a "joint use facility". Surely there isn't a high demand from the school on a weekend?

I seem to be the first one to query the current situation. The librarian is working towards fixing it so the room is available on weekends, but they havenít sorted it out with the college yet. She rang me back today. Other factors that make this difficult at the moment include that she is expecting to go on maternity leave any day, and I need to visit my parents for the coming week - but Iíll be back for Saturday.

And Iíve just discovered that we have a public holiday on Monday 28th!

Anyway, we could meet at the Arboretum main building. Thereís a cafe there (donít confuse it for the restaurant), and we could meet in the large area in front of the cafe. If itís a really nice day, we could go to the Himalayan Forest where we have met before, otherwise go to the cafe itself. Does that sound ok?

The numbers are now looking very thin, and after discussing it with the people who expressed interest, we have decided to postpone this meetup.

It appears to me that the coming weekend will be busy, but that I will be available the following weekend. Would anyone like to have a meetup then?

Have a good time. Things are changing here, and it think that after 26th would actually suit me better too. Could we say 30th June? How does that suit everyone?

I'll look into the Belco libraries if I remember (sorry, brain is mostly full of reno planning).

An alternative could be going to one of the many clubs across the city? I'm not sure what their policies are for BYO food though - I'll do some googling. Between DH and I, we're a member of 4 or 5 clubs across the city, and I'm ok with joining another one/renewing lapsed membership*.

*Hanging out in clubs is useful when it's too hot to be at home in summer, or if I need good filtered air-con when my lungs aren't coping with bushfire smoke etc.

Remember that Dickson library is shut until further notice because of rain and asbestos.

Huh. I knew it was closed because of rain. Hadn't realised about the asbestos. (I assume asbestos sheeting, not Mr Fluffy?)

The rain caused damage, which was inspected, and they found suspected asbestos (pretty sure it was sheet) that had been damaged, so itís closed until further notice.

We are a small, unincorporated group with a learning outcome, so library room hire is free.

I do like the idea of a club (although Iím not a member of any). In the early days we did go to cafes for lunch, so we donít have to go somewhere thatís free - itís just a combination of my frugal tendencies and the fact that, at various times different people have had different food requirements.

Fixed. I don't really want to remove the poll in case I can't change it in the future, but hopefully this will not get people thinking we are next having a meeting in 10 months.

We will have one in November/December if I organise the next one, or before that if someone else does.

Hey guys,

So not formally a meetup but I'll be having an art show at my apartment December 8th. You're all invited but if you are interested in details without commitment PM me your email address and I'll send you an invitation. It'd be great to get the chance to say hello and goodbye again, as by Christmas time we'll be gone from Canberra for at least 2 years (though maybe not any more than that).

THe official exhibition start is 6, but if there's a group there's no reason you couldn't come over earlier and hang out
