Soo just heard from my sister, turns out her family is in Port Douglas back on Sunday.  So long story short I will be in canberra easter Monday. If there is an Impromptu Meetup - im there. If one or two of you want to grab coffee that would be great.  Looking forward to meeting Deborah and lonerMatt if you guys are available?

Where's good to meet?

Somewhere central please!

Kingston, Braddon, the wanky areas.

Well, there is a BBQ at Haig Park - near where Masson St meets Moore St. Haig Park (for those who don't know) is a very long and narrow park that separates the city from the north. Braddon ends at Haig Park, but the BBQs are on the west side of Northbourne Ave rather than the East side. The BBQ is a little hard to spot, as it is surrounded by bushes, but it is immediately north of the carpark. Or we could go to one of the places in Lonsdale St Braddon, but they might be shut on Easter Monday.

Or we could go to Glebe Park - which is even closer to the city (actually in the city) - and it has bbqs too although I'm not sure where. It is a nicer park.

I'm happy with your Judgment Deborah.  I don't know Canberra that well but will be visiting my Sister in Scullin.  From my limited experience - compared to Sydney - everywhere in Canberra is only 15 minutes away.

Also, I agree it will be hit and miss trying to find somewhere open.

Update: friend texted me asking if I want to hike Kosciozsko tomorrow. Yes I do, this makes me feel incredibly guilty to cancel on this a second time around.

Sorry folks, a free ride to nature and a day spent hiking in the snow is too good to turn down.

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty new to this, but appreciate any help you might have, I'm struggling with my garden in the winter and I'm getting lazy with the bike. But knowing there are some locals around, is a huge help. A lot of people know about the blog, and we have been swapping advice, so there might be a few more mustachians out this way than the forum is showing.

From reading the thread, looks like the meetup hasn't happened yet? I'd be keen to come along if there is another one organised soon, the picnic/bbq idea is nice.

Hello all. I have just had a BRILLIANT idea. We can have our next meetup at a library, and I can bring my screen printing gear. I have loaded down the PNG that MMM has put on his T-shirt - see http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/shirts/. Everyone can bring their t-shirt Or whatever else - BBQ Apron?), and we can all end the meetup with MMM T-shirts (if you want them).

What do you think?

When do we want to do this? As usual, I have changed the poll...

At the moment I'm free on the 2nd, 9th and 23rd, so I'm easy!

Marginal preference for the 9th as it's during school holidays.

I think the T-shirt printing is a great idea. I've voted for 23rd July as its my only possible weekend. I might well be too overloaded to make it...would have to make a final decision closer to the time.

November is here. A new poll... hopefully a new meetup...

I can't remember whether we usually meet on saturday or sunday - blast, it must be saturday. Anyway, there is nice weather at the moment, so Ozstache park or the Arboretum looks good to me. Anyone interested?

According to my family, I'm always flat out doing nothing so I'm up for another meet at wherever. I can tell y'all about my pilgrimage to see MMM and others last month and how that has kicked me into another retirement gear.

Oh and welcome back from your travels Deborah! You'll have to fill us in on how Camp Moosestache went.

After a bit of off-line discussion, it appears everyone can possibly make it on the morning of the 9th December, so that is the date!

Now, WHERE do we want it to be? The prediction is 25 and some showers.

Genuine offer.

Obviously outside is great and if there's a lovely spot in a park that's way better than my apartment, but thought I'd offer all the same :)

DEFINITELY going ahead. What park is close to your apartment LM? We'll go there until it starts to rain, and then end up at your place if it rains (if the park has SHADE). Morning... 10am?

From Parks ACT...

Telopea Park is an eight hectare park in Barton with picnic and playground areas, cycle and pedestrian paths, public toilets and barbecues. It features an informal mix of mature exotic and native trees, and is a popular venue for family picnics.

Created in 1922, Telopea Park takes its name from the floral emblem of New South Wales. Its informal evergreen/deciduous landscape character and mature trees make it a strong attraction to pedestrians and cyclists from nearby residences, the Kingston and Manuka shopping centers and suburbs further away.

Facilities and activities

    Toilets
    Electric/gas BBQs
    Playground
    Drinking water
    Picnic shelter
    Picnic tables
    Dogs on leash
    Cycling

From the map, there is a Y into Telopea park more or less opposite Currie Cres. There appears to be a playground on the left side and a BBQ on the right side, and possibly the toilets are there. Meeting at the BBQ sounds like a plan. If anyone can verify any of this, I would be happy. But it looks like there is shade and amenities.

MEET THERE AT 10am on 9th December.

I went past Telopia park today so I dropped in and took a few photos of the BBQ area we are planning on using. Plenty of shade and free parking. Didn't see any toilets but I am sure they'll be close by. I will be walking my dogs there on Sunday so will confirm the toilet situation, if Astatine doesn't do so beforehand.

The toilets are over the little drainage creek in the middle of the park, but more or less opposite the playground.

I ran through the park today and sussed it.

Yay! Glad Ozstache sussed it out. I did go past it tonight but it was10pm and very dark.

Hopefully we will get a table. If i can bear getting up early enough I might try heading there before 10. Picnic tables at Lake Gininderra can go before 9.

Yay! I'm still up for it. If I can be arsed (50/50 chance given how crap my sleeping currently is), I will try to get to Telopea Park early to get a table with shade.

Edit: also, we were super lucky we didn't choose last Saturday for our get together. So. Much. Rain.
