Great! We can change Louisiana starting with us haha. I talk finances with people everyday at my job. Most eat it up while others just think I'm unrealistic.

Checking in from Covington!  Hope there are more of us lurking.

Hi--

I'm posting here because I am helping to organize a meetup in New Orleans the weekend of March 11th, 2017.  So far, Gray Matter, pbkmaine, and Meadow Lark have committed to joining me there for a weekend of walking, talking, cooking, eating, drinking, laughing, and some sightseeing.

So, two things:

If some of you want to organize a meetup on, say, the 11th, some of us in our group might want to meet up with you.  (We did this in Chicago last October--a group of 9 of us flew into Chicago for the weekend and we met up with 8 local Chicago MMMers.  It was great!)

Also, I am looking on AirBnb for a place that would hold 8 or so of us.  We don't want to be right in the loudest, craziest part of the city, but maybe within an easy bus ride of it.  We want it to be clean and have good reviews.  A high priority is that it be in a walkable neighborhood (some of us really enjoy walking and talking).  Any suggestions from those of you who know New Orleans would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, pretty new to the site (and forum), but I've been subconsciously moving toward a more mustachian life for the last year.  Recently moved to New Orleans after 16 years in LA and cut my expenses by more than half.  Reading everything I can from MMM these days, so I'd definitely be down to grab a beer (or whiskey; stopped drinking beer recently) when y'all are in town and hear your perspective on all of this.  I'm a believer.  Came on the forum specifically to see if there were any others in the area.

I'm also new to the forum, after getting into MMM about a year ago.  I live in mid-city New Orleans and would love to meet up with people in town or visiting for a beer.

Hey guys.  I'm an hour west of New Orleans on the banks of the Amite River.   I ride my bicycle in NOLA all the time.  Would love to meet up, can't the weekend posted.  I'll be working nights Wednesday through Sunday night that week.

I am a lurker and so I am a brand new registrant.  I live in New Orleans.  It'd be cool to meet up at some time.

To anybody in the New Orleans area:

As you may know, Gray Matter, Meadow Lark, pbkmaine and I will be in New Orleans this coming weekend.  We'd love to meet some local folks and are thinking about a meetup at a quiet coffee shop Saturday afternoon--say 2pm?

Our accommodations are in the Lower Garden District.  It would be great if someone could suggest a coffee shop that is either in walking distance of our place or can be easily accessed by public transit.

Please post here if you have suggestions.  Thanks, and hope to see some of you on Saturday, March 11th!

(Cross posted in the New Orleans meetup thread.)

Hello!  I just moved to Lake Charles.  Anyone around here?  I'm having a bit of culture shock🙂  I actually am really liking it, but I haven't lived in this small of a town in 25 years.
No journal for now.

Hey y'all!  I'm in the French Quarter, where everyone's pipes recently froze and nobody knew what to do about it.  I'm also a Fed, so maybe I'll be on furlough-vacation through Mardi Gras.

Would anyone like to plan to have a little MMM Meetup in New Orleans in a few weeks? If we arrange it now we may actually be able to make it happen 😀

Just expressing solidarity with South Louisiana! I'm from Lafayette but living in Canada now. Glad to know Mustachianism is alive and well in the Bayou. I visit often, so will be sure to check for future meet ups.

Not too many kindred spirits here in Lake Charles. Actually moving away in three months.

Thanks, B

We've had a few great meet ups of financial independence / mustachian types in New Orleans, organized through our ChooseFI facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChooseFINewOrleans/

Hong Nguyen Le and her husband organize some great lunches and board games, come check us out!

Who is available next weekend, Saturday or Sunday afternoon? Another mustachian proposed that we meet at City Park, we can bike ride and have a picnic or whatever everyone is in the mood to do. Please reply with available dates and times. If next weekend doesn't work, we can maybe plan for the following weekend.

I'm free all day this Saturday (4/28).  Also, most evenings besides Wednesday would be fine.  City Park and bike riding are solid suggestions.

Hi South Louisianans,
Please forgive me for jumping onto your meet up thread, but I have almost 2 free days in New Orleans before a conference coming up. I'm trying to plan what to do and not spend too much. I found this https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/3-days-in-new-orleans-what-to-do/ but it's a few years old. Is this still a good list?
I won't have a car and I'll be staying in the downtown area. Coming from Houston, I'm not interested in swamp tours (have plenty of that at home). While I enjoy a drink now and then, I'm not interested in getting drunk there. I haven't been to NOLA since before Katrina, so it will be like a first visit for me. Thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, I think this is a reliable list in the thread you found. I'm sorry I can't provide more help. I don't get out much these day now that I have 2 little ones!

Hey Everyone,
Now that Jazz Fest is over maybe we can try to meet up?

Who is available? Lets throw some dates out there. Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday afternoons work for me.

Also, would anyone want to move this conversation over to Facebook, that may be easier since not everyone checks the forum as frequently (I'm guessing). We could create a FB group.

Thanks! Val
