Anyone in London, UK?
« on: October 12, 2014, 11:44:54 AM »
It looks like the majority of people here are from the US but I'm sure there are a lot of Londoners too.
Why don't try to meet up?

I'm not in London but thought I'd show support for the UK groups. (Are we whiskers rather than mustaches?) Am in the Shrewsbury, Shropshire area of England btw. :-)

I'm from Germany, but London is definitely in reach (plus I'm hanging around in the UK anyway from time to time :))

Not living in London or the UK, but working from London a couple of days a week most weeks. I looked into living in London however the high cost of living scared me, would be very difficult to have the lifestyle I have in The Netherlands there. Also I am afraid my savings would go down the drain, literally, I am too fond of pubs and real ale...

I do know a number of people with nice apartments in central London who never have to work again at 45, if you work(ed) for the right companies there, I think the sky is the limit.

I turned on notifications for this post. If there would be enough people to meet, I would definitely go.

And I bet there are more mustachians in London, they just shy on showing in the forum.

Hi,

like a few of the others have mentioned, just wanted to lend support to a meet up, if when one happens!

I work in Australia half the yr and the other half in the UK, mainly in Lincolnshire and Shropshire. I and my partner would be interested in day tripping to London or else where for a meet up, if the date suited.

Hope the weather is easing in the UK, I'll be back in a month and  looking forward to the beautiful English spring time :-)

I live in York, not far by train, but I'd need good notice to bag a cheap rail ticket to the Big Smoke!

Delayed response, but I just moved to London and would be interested in meeting like minded people (although my frugality skills still have huge opportunities for improvement)...

I am in london too. Although only Until Mid July. After that I will be a fairly short train ride away and would be making regular weekend trips to london anyway

I'll be in London starting early August if you guys don't manage to get something together before then. I'd love to meet you all because after I move overseas a lot of the frugality tricks I know will no longer apply. Also, damn London is expensive.

There are a couple of people from Shropshire already and I'm based in the West Midlands. Maybe a Birmingham meetup would be another UK option for people who are further from London? BTW there is an existing thread at http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/meetups-and-social-events/mustache-map!/ where you can add your location to a Google map. Might be useful to get an idea of where UK moustachians are based.

Well is there any particular time that works before 20th July for anyone?

I can do pretty much any day other than one week in June (Exams over, have a few elective modules and that is it)

I would also be keen to meet up with some Londoners, although unfortunately I am away most weekends until mid-June; however, I could currently do virtually any weekend from 20th June if that works for others.

Hello - I'm based in London, it would certainly be fun to meet other people who follow MMM. I also involved in several public speaking clubs so if people were interested in doing a short talk on the their MMM experiences, then I can extend an invite.

PS: I'm an engineer at heart working in the city; I got my own fixer upper when I was 24, then sold it recently to get somewhere more convenient to the new cross rail being built. I'm quite a few years away from full independence probably because I really enjoy London life, but it's certainly not cheap.

Weekday evenings and/or weekends good for me.

Still early days for me - would love to hear from people further along!

How is August 8th or 9th for everyone? Anybody have suggestions for where to meet? A park could be nice, but we'd need an alternate location in case of poor weather.

How about the Barbican centre, it's quite central and easy to find as an initial meet up point

(Apologies, I don't seem to get notifications on replies and I only log in about once every 1 or 2 weeks)

What is there to do there exactly? I caught the LSO there last summer and noticed there was also a movie theater but that was all.

The wife and I should be about 8th or 9th and would love to join in.

I'd also question the Barbican, it does have some nice outdoor space but it's not very grassy and much of the area around there winds down at the weekend.

Howabout Greenwich park for beautiful open space, great value street food at the market and a free museum or several pubs as a fallback if the british summer strikes? Alternatively one of the central royal parks ie Hyde Park, Regent's Park or St James?

I would join one if that's what we decide to do. It looks like many of the cities just organize the meetup within the city thread rather than create an external group, though - is there anything you had in mind that you could do with facebook that you couldn't do with the forum software?

I think with facebook and meetup they are better designed for organising a meetup or even just a quick drink if one person posts there and anyone is nearby. People also seem to check FB more regularly than MMM so dates can be set and you can see how many people are attending easily.

I'm fairly near London and often travel in for work (although am trying to reduce that...) At a wedding on 8th/9th August, though.

P.S. Doodle poll for dates? Don't know if you can just generate a link to post.

Hi all. I am in the UK and available to visit between Thursday 30th and Monday morning.

I am originally from the UK, but live in Oregon, (west coast USA). I unexpectedly find myself available during that time.

I am already FIRED (53 years old) but choose to work part time.

Send me a PM if anyone want to meet up.

Cheers

Frank

Not a lot to go on in the poll but the 15th and 22nd look pretty good for now. Shall we just pick one?

I'm likely to be in London soonish.  Although I suspect that trying to round up London/UK mustachians is akin to herding cats, and I'm out of the London scene so open to alternative suggestions on a venue, I'm going to suggest -

The French House
Dean Street, Soho
Wednesday 11th November
5pm onwards
With a fake moustache in your buttonhole.

Any takers?
