We are sort of new too.  Started in January and still learning as we go.
We live an hour away from Chicago in the western burbs.

Me as well!  I'm in Logan Square, work in River North.

I've been wanting to have a "mending party" for a while.  Sitting around mending clothes is so boring, but so necessary.  I figured doing it with friends would at least make it an interesting social activity.  I don't really have many friends who would be interested in that, though.

Anybody here up for it?  I can host.

I am in Chicago as well (Northcenter/Ravenswood area). I'm brand new at this and am looking to meet more like-minded people (which seems hard to find in this city!).

Looks like quite the crowd of Chicago people!

Like I said, I can host.  I've got one sewing machine, but I can't promise I know how to use it, and it's prone to jamming up, so if someone else wants to bring one, they are welcome.  I've got some hand sewing supplies and thread as well, but if you don't want to share, feel free to bring your own of that too.

I'm thinking Saturday, November 10th, in the afternoon.  Does this work with people?  I live near the intersection of Kimball Ave and Palmer St.  There's free street parking, places to lock up bikes, and I'm about .7 miles away from the California blue line stop.  I'll search the forums for the word "Chicago" and message people who seem like they might live here, alerting them to this post.

I also like the idea of a challenge.  We can have potluck style snacks... but your dish must cost under $2.  Dun dun dunnn.  As someone who is too guilty of the, "shit, I forgot I need to bring food for an event... guess I'll spent $8 on an overpriced veggie tray..." I would love to see what creative things people can think up!  It wouldn't be required for entry, but it would be nifty if people did it :)

I can list this meetup on the ERE forums as well if you want. They're dual listing the Boston meetup already.

Previous ERE meetups in Chicago has been around 6-8 people although I'm sure there's some overlap between ERE and MMM. Compared to the San Francisco bay area, I've found it a lot easier to find frugal people in Chicago.

Mending party sounds cool. I'm sure DW is going to bring some knitting stuff.

This is a fantastic idea. I would love to join this (and accept your cooking challenge).

Sounds like a good plan to me :)

And yeah.  Those responsible enough to keep their clothing in good repair shouldn't feel excluded; they are welcome to come, hang out, and gloat about their unholey apparel.

Bolingbrook/Naperville here.  I can't make the November date but would be interested in something in the western suburbs.

I am also not able to be at the November 10 get-together.  I second the western suburbs meetup!  Anybody else near Naperville?

I'm in the Irving Park neighborhood.  Would like to come meet some fellow MMMers, but unfortunately that weekend does not work for me.

I can't make that day either (Nov/Dec are really tough for me in general due to seasonal work) but I'd be interested in future gatherings!

Is it still on? If so what time and could you PM me the address?

Yes!  Let's say 2:00pm?  I'll PM you now, and tonight I'll go through and PM those who have said they might be interested with the address.

Looks like people are generally unavailable, so I think I'm going to cancel and plan something else in the future in a more organized fashion (other people are of course encouraged to do so as well!  I'm not much of an event planner).

Also in Chicago, and really only just getting started on this track.  the idea of a meetup sounds good, and I'm also in the Logan Square area.
