Sunday.  Sorry.  I get my left and right mixed up when giving g directions as well, so always double-check anything I write.

I live in Tucson, but I think I might be up in PHX on 2/19.  I'd love to meet up with you all!

Hey Mike, I'm in Tucson pretty much every weekend, and Glendale during the week. Hopefully Tucson more permanently soon. We need to find some more mustachians down here!

Hello, all -

First post here... my wife and I live in downtown Gilbert, would love to plug into the local mustachian community. I was introduced to the blog by a family  member about 6 months ago, and have been plowing through as much material as I can. We've recently committed ourselves to a life of frugality, but very early on our journey. My name is Jordan, so hello and look forward to potentially connecting with some of you locals.

Best!

I'm out of state until sometime in June.  Hopefully someone still in town will call a Meetup.

I'm exceptionally slammed until the end of the month.

I'll get back on here after that and arrange a meetup for sometime during June, unless someone else does so first.

Also in the Phoenix area (my whole life) and currently living in west Gilbert. I've been lurking on the forum's since 2012 but (for some reason) it took me heading to Camp Mustache next Weekend for me to find my way into the meetup's section! Bummed I missed out on the last few but I'm psyched for any I might be able to attend in the future.

I'm currently in MN visiting a snowbird friend.  Mom and I drove up in my Class A motorhome that I full time live in.  However, I'll be home by the first week in June.  So, I'm calling a Phoenix area get together on June 25, a Sunday, at the Mexican Restaurant in Tempe at 2:00pm.  Feel free to say that isn't a good time/place and suggest a different time/place.

Hello Phoenician mustachians, so I have finally moved to the area. I'm in South Scottsdale. I have a job interview with Dish Network which has a Phoenix address a bit north of Chandler Blvd.

Is this going to be an un-fun commute?

It looks like the two main choices are AZ 202 > AZ 143 > I 10 through Tempe or AZ 101 > US 60 > I 10 through Mesa.

Sounds like you are driving to Ahwatukee.  City streets may be your best bet here.  60 and 202 west are tough during the morning commute hour.  You might try 101 south to Chandler Blvd and then west on Chandler Blvd.  Maybe someone in South Gilbert or Chandler can tell you how that would work.

Meetup on Sunday, June 25 at 2pm at the Mexican Restaurant in Tempe:

423 S Mill Ave, Tempe AZ 85281

This is the google map view of the outside of the place:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4258704,-111.9399831,3a,47.1y,49.51h,88.59t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXt0GwYJeIeED4IaEF3HtxQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I will be there early and get a table.  If I can know approximately how many will show up, I can get the larger round table at the front.  It is a smallish place, so finding me shouldn't be a problem.

We are officially up to 3 attending at this point.  Room for lots more!  The food is good, and they are very welcoming even if people just want water or nothing at all.

The predicted high on Tuesday in Phoenix is 121 degrees.  Wednesday it's 119.  By Sunday it's supposed to drop to 114...

Ah, so by Sunday it will be cooler, eh?  I can say that, I'm up in Payson where it is just supposed to get 104.  I expect that my trip from my car to the restaurant will be quick and sweaty.

I didn't get the job, so it's irrelevant. Would have been early morning though. There was no traffic when I went to the interview late morning.

I'm actually going to be there for a couple of days, but on my way to the Southwest cattle car about the time you start.  I hoped to meet Frugal Zony while she was still in town to thank her for the FZ Memorial Coffeemaker, but not this trip.

tj - the job market there is pretty strong - depending on your field, I would not cry about not getting a job with Dish Network.  There's a better job waiting for you.

By the way, does anyone know of a reputable Honda mechanic ? I noticed alll the dealerships sell "a/c service". Never saw that in California. How often do you need it? Do they just change the air filters more frequently because of the heat?

If the AC breaks down here, it's an uncomfortable inconvenience.  Not having AC when it's 121 degrees is not just uncomfortable, it's not feasible to drive in that temperature.  The AC must be repaired and charged for you to drive the car for any distance.  Most mechanics offer some level of AC service to get you in the door.

Word. I find late morning drives to be NBD but from ~6 to ~8 it can generally add 50%+ to your commute. I used to have to commute from South Gilbert to North Scottsdale (Straight up the 101) and with no traffic is was ~35 minutes. Most mornings it was ~1hr. Traffic going through the 10 is worse (In my experience) although I've spent less time on those routes.

I bought a vehicle from Sasa last year - seemed like a great guy from my limited experience. I did all my own work when I lived in AZ, but if I had to recommend a shop I'd recommend him (and Yelp appears to agree).

Hi all! I'm a member of the Washington DC Mustachians but my partner (a Mustachian padawan) and I are moving to Phoenix in October. We're eager to make like-minded friends and get intel on how to create a Mustachian lifestyle in Phoenix.

We're both self-employed. We're new to Phoenix (moving sight-unseen) so we plan to sublet for the month of October and shop for apartments. Any advice on where to look is welcome!

I think you'll have an easier time finding a short sublease like that near the university (Tempe) as many students will be going away for the summer. The three summer sessions end Jun26,Jul10, and Aug9. In early August the new students come in and availability will dry up.

Longer term really depends on what you want to be near to. I assume there's *something* bringing you to PHX that you want to be close to.

There are a lot of canals with bicycle paths and such if that's something you'd be interested in using for getting around.

The light rail is pretty useful as well.

If you have ample cash reserves, the best deal in town that I know of is probably Consolidated Cooperatives:

http://consolidatedcooperatives.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/doc00235120170613110031.pdf

I don't live @ Consolidated, but I live at one of the other co-ops nearby. Cost of living is rock bottom. You're near the free city trolley line which connects to the free bus in Tempe too.

No formal meetings, but it's whatever anyone wants to propose.  In the past we've met up at East Mesa, downtown Tempe, and at the 24th St and Camelback area.
I think summertime is tough due to vacations, etc. but maybe after Labor Day..

What time of the day are you going to have to make this commute?

So I ended up finding a job that's more near Deer Valley. I live near 101 Loop & McDowell and will work near 101 Loop & 19th Ave. It's just under 30 miles northwest around the loop. If I start work at 8 am, what will the traffic be like?

Just use Google to check. Normally in the morning rush hour, traffic is heavy going north on 101. Can be bad. Same apply when going south after work.

No, it's all very informal.  Someone proposes a date and time and place, others RSVP and attend as they can.
No leader, all very open, so if you have an idea feel free to make a suggestion -

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
