@mm1970, @Chaplin,@Tass, @oneday, @SnakesintheGrass, or anyone else still interested in booking La Casa?

Unfortunately, I won't know if I'm going to make it until very close to the date so I can't really pre-book anything.

I booked a campsite, but that could change.  My travel dates with the campsite would be 10/7-10/11.  If I change my mind and decide to fly and/or bring family, then I'd def want the casa.

FOR NOW I'm planning on camping.  I love camping.  I do not love the 1.5 days' drive each direction.

I love camping too, it was tough last time flying with all the camping gear!!

I wish I could drive, 33 hours from my house, 🤦🤦🤦 maybe for a month+ trip but now for a long weekend.

As it was took me ~16 hours from my house to Moab Brewery last time.

Bus from my house to airport, flight, bus to rental car place, rental car from Salt Lake City to Moab!! Worth it though as it's just so unique compared to anything on East coast.

I'm honestly tempted to go again this year!! But still thinking it over 🤷🤔🏜️ 🚴⛺

The map sure seems to say so. Experience suggests reality has other opinions. However, I would be coming from New Mexico, so that would make it uphill, wouldn't it?

Hey @Chaplin, we saw something while traveling yesterday that made us think of you. I couldn't snap a picture fast enough, so I figured I'd google it. Turns out, the set-up must have been super custom.

The Tesla had a long horizontal cargo box, something like this:

https://www.thule.com/en-us/cargo-carrier/hitch-cargo-carriers/thule-arcos-basic-bundle-_-906201b1

Above that was a horizontal ski rack, mounted separately, above and clear of the cargo box. It was slick, but I can't find pictures of anything like it.

I suspect there's quite a cottage industry for unique ways to kit out Teslas.

We also had fun watching loads of transporters laden with shiny new Teslas en route from the factory, on their way to new homes.

We are tentatively still interested. I'm not sure where we're going to live in October but DH says this sounds worth doing even if the travel is much more complex.

I think that if I start to think I need that I'm just trying to bring too much. If I make it this year it will be by bike (and plane) as I hope to be in New Mexico at the beginning of October. I would fly to Grand Junction and ride the Kokopelli Trail to Moab. TBD.

Last year we drove in from Toronto.

Took 2 days to Denver, camped in the mountains for a week, picked up a kid at the Denver airport, then drove the rest of the way to Moab. Drive home took 2 days IIRC. We slept in a sketchy motel one night. I don't recall camping on the drive home. We did cross the border (Detroit/Windsor) under cover of darkness and pulled into the driveway at daybreak.

We haven't even began to think about the trip this year.

This weekend SO bought a used (90s era) F350 with a flat bed as our overland vehicle. He's been looking for a few years and finally found a good deal on something with the right modifications. We're going to spend the summer figuring out a tent and cooking setup or decided whether we want to try a slide in camper. Great thing with an older diesel vehicle is that SO can do most mods and repairs himself because it doesn't have the kind of electronics in modern vehicles.

Thanks Moab meetup for being a great inspiration to get started on a hobby now instead of waiting until retirement.

Nice!! Spent my life in construction and we are a Ford family. Driven lots of Super Dutys over the years!!!

Current truck is a 2017 F-250 crew cab, have to dig up a pic or two later :)

Happy building!!

I think that makes you (x2), me (x2), @314159 (x2), and @oneday (x?), so at least 7 people who are interested.

I'm confident enough that we'll be there to put money on it and cover my share even if I'm wrong, but not confident enough that I think I should be the person to book it. (To repeat the backstory, we may move in the second half of this year, which would scramble our travel plans.)

We are too! Mr. Dicey's been driving his F150 since he bought it new with cash in 2002. It looks badass and only has 112k miles. It has paid for itself many times over. Alas, we will travel to Moab in the height of 2012 luxury, not the truck. Miss Rigby is much more comfortable and only has about 35k miles on her, so she needs the exercise, lol.

Is this plan (for two people) feasible:

Fly in like Tues or Wed (8th or 9th) to Canyonlands Airport.

Someone picks us up at the airport and takes us to where the camping is.

Pitch a tent for a few days.

Maybe get a ride into the national park on the 9th or 10th to explore that, if anyone is doing that?

Friday Oct 11 someone gives us a ride to Canyonlands Airport, fly out.

(Alternatively on the last step hitch with someone and chip in for gas, if anyone is headed to the Phoenix area on the 11th.)

---------------

Can anyone comment on the feasibility of airport pickup/dropoffs for two, and if just making it for the final 2-3 days is good?

EDIT: Just saw the house rental thing. Would be good with that too. Would want to be wherever the majority are, to hang out.

Was just going to mention that. Everyone pitches together, especially when MMM Royalty comes a callin'. Squee!

We have a dedicated site at the campground for our group, where everyone is welcome to come hang out anytime, except we're mostly out doing fun stuff during the day. There's always an evening campfire, which is where awesome conversations are had and plans are made for the next day.

Selfishly, we must leave on Wednesday morning, so I'd love it if you can come on the 8th (or before). For that I'd happily raise my hand for airport pickup duty.

I just had a great trip to Moab for Memorial Day so I'll plan on going if it's just okay to invite myself.

Usually I'm a bit of a loner trips like this but I'd really like to meet some MMM people and chat around a campfire.

Is it a "anyone can attend" kind of thing? I'd really only be going for a three day weekend and get back to work after since I'm not FIRE yet.

We aren't going to make it this year, sorry folks. But on the bright side,  it means one more campsite freed up!

We would transfer to someone,  but we booked the spot for a 2 week block. If anyone wants site 88 from September 30 - October 11 for $656, let me know. I'll be canceling this week.

I think this is the type of meetup at which you can spend whatever amount of time you like.  We actually had someone swing by for just a couple hours or so a few years back!  (She was actually moving from NM to UT!)

Having said that, you'd get more out of the experience if you could stay longer.  I think there will be a lot of mustachians to meet and chat with, and there are a lot of fun things to do in the Moab area.

If you want to stay where the majority of the attendees will be, that would be in the campground.  The campground does fill up, so if you are thinking about staying there, I would grab a spot as soon as you can.  They do have a generous cancellation policy.  A link to the campground's website is in the second post of this thread.

Hope that answers most of your questions!

Hi!  As CherryLane said, yep, this meetup is definitely open to any mustachian, and there is really no official beginning and end.  Some arrive early and leave early, some arrive late and stay late, some arrive late and leave early--just depends on personal circumstances.  It's all good!

As I just wrote to Rebel, this campground does fill up during their busy season, so I would grab a campsite as soon as you can.

Glad you are interested in coming back to Moab and chatting around the campfire!!

Sure is!

Excellent! Since I can really only come for 3 nights I'll probably just camp solo... found some free dispersed spots off of Beef Basin Rd near Needles entrance.

I'd definitely like to come by to hang out and meet some people and maybe do a hike if it all aligns.

I'll keep an eye out here for updates on things.

Thanks for having a cool event to go to!

I booked a campsite for the whole week, but we're only going to use a couple days. We're not arriving until the 7th and are heading out before sun up on the 10th to do the White Rim and a few days overlanding in the Maze. Does anyone want our site (G7) for the 4-7th or 10-11th?

If there are any available, the little cabins are pretty decent -- more expensive than a campsite, but you get AC and a mini-fridge.  They COULD probably sleep up to 6 people (they have two bunk beds each with twin over full), but you'd want to know the people well and pretty much just sleep in them since there is very minimal floor space.

I'm currently re-working my renovation plans and budget.  Unlikely that I'll make it this year, but who knows.  It's only a 2 day drive, right?

Thanks for reminding me to ask about this. Moonpie and I are renting a cabin and I was wondering what sort of cooking we might be able to do. Is it just AC and fridge or do they anything like a microwave, coffee maker, etc?

It feels so much shorter with friends though!

This sounds totally feasible.

I'm driving out from California (TBD whether I'll drive my 18 year old car or rent one), and I have a campsite from the 7th to the 11th.  I think I agreed to share it with someone...

But for sure I could drop you off at the airport on the 11th, since I'll probably start for home that day (1.5 day drive).

I was only there for a few days last year (my first), and it was totally worth it.

Unless said friends insist on playing obscure Canadian camp sing-along songs.  Then 1/2 a day feels like a week!

Just kidding, I had an awesome time riding along with y'all to Denver.  And if I do make the trip this year I should see if anybody wants to share the ride....

I think "I bring good snacks"  needs to be my new motto/tagline somewhere.

Beth and I are in for the Lazy Lizard!

It's just me, and I will have a similar schedule to 314159 (half week), so also do not feel the best about booking it! Nobody wants to, lol!

Which half

Haven't decided yet. Why, are you making an appearance?

Contemplating!! It'd be 8-12 if I can work it all out

80/20 so far. Tentatively booked campground and flights ️⛺

Well, well, well. Need to sit myself down with a calendar, I guess :)

Alright, I've booked La Casa for the whole week, October 4-11! Now that we know we'll be nomad-ing around the country by that time, we decided we can attend for the whole week, and hence we can be the Casa Coordinators. We will be working remotely most of the weekdays, sadly. (booo!)

I paid a one night deposit ($301 after tax). I'll try to nail down a list of who will be there and when once we're a bit closer to the actual event. If we don't have enough people to make it worth it for the whole week, I'll shorten the reservation accordingly. The cancellation policy says for group houses, 30 days notice is required for a full refund. But I wouldn't be cancelling, just adjusting the dates of my stay, right? In any case, I'll try to give them 30 days notice. So please let me know once your travel plans firm up!

I think I'll make it this year!  I'm almost FIREd (3 more work days) and plan to start traveling for a year in September.  First stop is Colorado, and then Moab should fit in nicely at the beginning of October.  Moab was already on my list since it looks crazy beautiful.  Can't wait to do lots of hiking.  But it'll be nice to meet you all and have some company for a bit as I'm solo traveling.  It sounds like it'll be a good time! :)

I'd be interested in this if there's any room left.  Just me.  I'll probably be there the whole week.  I'm good with camping too, but I'll be doing a lot of that so the house sounds nice.  Awesome that you'll be nomad-ing!  Can't wait to talk with other nomads since I'll just be starting out myself.
