Hello Madison-area Mustachians,

I recently moved to Madison. I would love to host a meetup in my apartment sometime in February. Would anyone be interested in attending? I live on the East side, about one mile from Capital Square. I'm thinking weekend-- maybe a Friday evening, or Saturday or Sunday afternoon? Do you have any preferences for which slot or which day?

Weekend afternoons are better for us than Friday evenings.

Also, check out Madison's Restaurant Week. Good discounts at good restaurants this week.
Excellent opportunity for new folks in town. They hold it twice a year.

I would love me to meet some more like minded folks here in Madison. We are also relatively new to the Madison area (getting close to two years!). A Friday/Saturday time would be the best for the wife and I. We will be travelling for 2 weeks at the beginning of Feb, so either of the last two weekends work best for us.

Sunday afternoon works best. I have a Sunday night poker game in Madison, so then I could do both in one drive, it's about a two hour drive to Madison.

I'll let others weigh in on public space vs. my apartment. I just moved to Madison from Washington, DC where there are frequent Mustachian meetups in private homes. So I have been to enough Mustachian homes that I personally don't feel squeamish about it. But I understand that others might be more nervous about meeting strangers from the internet in a private home. If it helps, arebelspy (MMM forum moderator extraordinaire) and his wife attended a meetup at my home before I moved here- I'm sure he would vouch for me!

That said, if the group seems to prefer a public space, I would suggest Johnson Public House.

I've been to two madison meetups, one was in a public space (Ale Asylum) and one was at a member's house. The Ale Asylum was way too loud to have decent conversation. So I preferred the one at the member's house. If you're suggesting the Johnson Public House, that suggests you live somewhere on the Isthmus?

But, I can't make the 28th at 2, sorry.

Yes, I live on the Isthmus-- about 1 mile from Capitol Square. I live near Johnson Public House.

Sorry you can't make the 28th. I hope to plan another event in the spring or summer-- maybe a picnic at a park or something like that. Hopefully you can make that one!

My wife and I could attend on the 28th at 2 if we can arrange a sitter. We would prefer a public place first time around. Johnson Public House sounds cool to me. Once we all get a chance to meet each other I'm sure the comfort level will build.

Sunday might not work the best for me, I will be working my new job by then and may already be on night shift, going in at 10pm on Sundays. I may not though, remains to be seen, so if I am still on days I could probably swing it.

This is the one. The blog isn't actually about what countries you can retire to. But when they look at their own progress, they calculate where they could already retire given their numbers. They call it the "early retirement locale index":
