I was gonna do some yoga pants with bottom is in but it was a little too NSFW
I'm often reminded of that classic photo of Sophia Lauren side-eyeing Jayne Mansfield's cleavage when "Top is in" jokes wander into suggestive territory.

I feel like we might be pulling out of the bottom. But I can't decide if I should try to make a joke out of that.

It's actually much worse than a dead cat bounce.  It's Schrodinger's Cat whereby it's an indeterminate state of being both alive and dead.

Although I suppose that if the bounce is violent enough, you end up with a dead cat no matter what.

Guess I was wrong about the bottom being in. Not looking for a joke any more.

We invested a huge chunk in the market over the last few weeks. My only regret is that we didn't have more to put in!

Had to look that one up.  Was I ever born too late!

Claire and Gloria recreating it for NBC tells me it's not NSFW.  Actually, surfing MMM forums is NSFW...

So true. I'm surprised I didn't get reprimanded for spending hours on MMM at work, during the last few years. That doesn't count the hours perusing my FIRE spreadsheet, wondering WTF I was doing in a cubicle on a nice summer day.

100 degree high with 50% humidity? That's a a wet bulb temp* of 84. That leaves a good 11 degrees of safety margin before it becomes impossible for humans to survive for prolonged periods outside, even in the shade with a breeze and plenty of fluids.

*The wet bulb temperature refers to the coolest temperature a thermometer can achieve when wrapped in wet cloth and spun through the air. It is a good proxy for how well sweating works to cool the body. Once the body cannot dissipate enough heat by sweating to maintain its core temperature "... The sweating mechanism shuts down, leading to death in six hours. ... Blood vessels dilate and circulation slows, particularly to the extremities. Not enough blood will flow to the brain, affecting its functioning. You lose alertness, become drowsy, and don’t feel thirst anymore. Soon organs shut down, one by one..."

But anyway, Houston is still 13 degree of air temperature or another 35% humidity away from hitting the point where human life becomes impossible.

I definitely used a proxy/vpn when I was working (or just kept it in cellular).  It was unlikely they would look up my browsing history but completely within their rights so why risk it?

Explains why my bulbs are so wet, yet I'm still dyin'.  Fortunately air conditioning will save us...  unless Abbott let's the power grid fail catastrophically.  Good thing I have 110% trust in his competent leadership! (shoots gun into the air in a random direction)

In my case, why not?  I could have been FIRED a couple of years earlier.
That being said, one of my former colleagues got fired for an innocent google search for a word in a language he didn't know.

Perhaps because “head” in a URL triggers their super sophisticated porn alert, but a kink for mustaches is too esoteric to include in the word list?

I imagine an IT guy on the MMM forums would've given me a pass for hanging out too much on Bogleheads. A 15 minute browse of that forum would've shown it's moderated to within an inch of its life :P

He (She? They?) has warned us again and again that the top is in. Maybe Thorstach has tired of trying to convince those who won’t believe. I’d like to think they are off somewhere with all the people who heard and believed the first time the message was shared, all feeling thankful that they know the top is in, have always known that the top is in, and always will know the top is in.

Exciting times indeed!

Great read for everyone, just to know what to expect!

https://earlyretirementnow.com/2019/10/30/who-is-afraid-of-a-bear-market/

"Notice how the average bear market took around 16 months, but from peak to trough to a new all-time high took 56 months on average. About 3.5 times longer than the initial bear market. It seems the stock market is about 2.5-times slower on the way back up than on the way down!!!" - ERN

That means a new top won't be in until February of 2027!

Shit, the 56 months IGNORED inflation.

"How about the other bear markets? In the table below, I report the results for the Total Return Index. So, 82 months on average, just under seven years. And that’s the average. Around the really scary bear markets (1929/1937, the 1970s and 2000) we’d spend anywhere between 12 to 15.5 years underwater."

82 months brings us to Friday, April 13, 2029......Friday the 13th, how fitting ;)

Na the 56 months included dividends, so "total return". The linked blog post by ERN is worth the read.

So adjusted for inflation median/mean is 60/82 months from peak to recovered value with dividends reinvested. I hope I keep my job for this epic sale.

This is key to consider as well. Do those charts include consistent investment? Or are we looking at ye ol' 10k in S&P500 and ignore it with dividends reinvested?
