We had a similar problem with Italian Lira around 1990.   There was so much inflation in it that we couldn't hold the correct number in our datatypes.   We added a second field which represented the number of zeroes to add to the number and just ignored the leftover Lira, which simply wasn't worth keeping track of.

I would think the same logic could apply here, once you reach $429,496 per share price you don't need to track to the fourth decimal place. I don't think many would care about a hundredth of a penny during those trades.
Wasn't this the entire basis of the Office Space skimming scheme?

I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I’m pretty sure it was the plot of Superman 3?
... and what would you do if you have a million dollars?

I'll tell you what I'd do: nothing.

I regret to inform you that, if being a millionaire was enough to hook that up back when Office Space came out, adjusting for inflation it'd take $1.6M today.

The top is in for Berkshire Hathaway

https://www.forexlive.com/news/!/berkshire-hathaways-stock-price-is-too-high-nasdaq-temporarily-suspended-prices-20210505
Really inspires confidence when the nasdaq of all exchanges gets a Y2K type problem like not being able to handle a high stock price. But, that is also a pretty unique and respectable way to hit the Top.

"The biggest number they can handle is $429,496.7295"  This is so very oddly specific.

4 294 967 295 in binary is 2^(32) − 1 and is written as 11111111111111111111111111111111 in binary. To add one more cent you'd have to use one more bit of memory to store the number than they are currently using.

Yeah, after a bit I realized it was just (2^32-1)/10000.  I wonder what the word is on the fix.

IF(SYMBOL==BRK.A){NEWPRICE=PRICE+MAXPRICE}

That'll still fail.  They just need to use a different datatype to store the value of PRICE+MAXPRICE.

NASDAQ's dirty little secret is out. The entire operation is run on an old 486 machine in a closet running custom software that was abandoned decades ago and everyone is afraid to touch.

Meh.  486s are pretty recent.  I've got friends working on some nuclear plants who had to learn '60s era Fortran.

Who knew that "top is in" was actually a reference to the system just railing out because we just didn't have enough bits?  Maybe "top is in" is a good thing.  It's basically that the economy is going to be so friggin good we won't even be able to measure it with our current technology.

Nasdaq didn't have enough headroom, so the signal was clipped. Obviously just needed to add a "11" at the end.

You called it! I think the day you made this post was the actual day The Top was in. The market has gone down for three days in a row. I don;t think it will ever go up again.

No, he's not Thorstach.   Thorstach was the prophet in the wilderness.   Ender is the new one true prophet that has replaced Thorstach -- the Thorstach Ender if you will.

Brothers, Sisters ... Do not be deceived by the false prophet, Ender. Only Thorstach is the one true caller of The Top. Only Thorstach can show us the way. Its okay friends, do not be ashamed, for Thorstach loves all of us, and your idolatry will be forgiven, if only you repent. Blessed be those that believe in Thorstach.

BTW: Yelpers really need to take pictures of *current* menus - someone's going to think the carne asada burrito is $6.95 when it's really $16.95 because of the menu picture from 2009... smh.

Those have a long way to go before I'll be satisfied. I will feel pretty good when DOGE is below $0.035 again. Still many times what that could possibly be "worth", but that was a now-former friend's prediction of where DOGE would go before the big rally would start on that day I just couldn't pretend anymore to be even slightly interested in the technical analysis / day-trading nonsense he was talking about.
