"I think we'll see a big move before Labor Day, but I'm uncertain which direction it will come."

N.B. That's a real quote in the mainstream financial news.

Even though this conversation is no longer about the fact the top is or isn't in, which sounds so wrong, I'm saying the top is about to be in.

Only due to the fact I sold an investment property and over the next week will be buying a few big whacks of ETF's, and LIC's...  Once these are done, knowing my luck the top is in and down we go...

Infamous "dbm indicator" flashing red!

Dbm indicator has been obsolete for years.  Most traders use at least modified DBM or the more controversial DBM II

To be serious for a moment, I'd like to point out that this perfectly captures the 2 ideas that drive the idea that the market can be beat.  First, the idea that there are "insider" bits of knowledge that give you a leg up.  The second is that other people (the insiders) know what it is and are using to make a KILLING!!

I'd like to point out that neither of these ideas are actually true.

Well you only say that because you don't subscribe to to DBM's daily newsletter.  50% of the time, it works every time.

Can confirm, I too should be closing on a property sale next week.

Fortunately for you, the property top is definitely in. If you sit on your cash from the property sale until the next 10% correction, youíll make a killing!

On a random note, the drop in the market today from all the Turkish happenings kind of proves that investing in US equities still gets you a good bit of international exposure.

Sell everything you own.  Buy a horse, a shotgun, an axe, a pack mule loaded with all the supplies it can carry, and head for the hills.

In your neck of the woods, I would recommend Shenandoah.  Any place good enough for General Philip Sheridan is A-OK in my book.  If you're headed for California, you might want to wait until the fires die down a little bit.  The fires my good friend Sheridan set in Shenandoah have been doused for more than 150 years.

I currently live in a desert.  It has its drawbacks, but one big advantage is that there isn't a lot of stuff that can catch fire around these parts.  It's an option if you feel a compelling need to relocate to the west coast urgently; though, I would recommend avoiding I-10 if you can.  You might find it difficult to water your animals along certain westward stretches of that route.  At least, that's what I found, anyway.

Be sure to get across the Sierra before the first snow. If you get snowed in for the winter, things can turn grim...

Few people who have starved to death have also had the opportunity to die of dysentery.

But you just don't eat perfectly good oxen all at one time.

Read Undaunted Courage and you'll see that the Lewis & Clark expedition came close.

Luckily for them, the Top wasn't In yet, so things got better.

Iím finally convinced that the old top was the real top and that there will be no more new tops. I just moved my 100% US equities portfolio to an international fund of forex puts valued in bitcoin. Thanks to everyone for helping me see the error in my thinking. FIRE, here I come!

This thread has 446,132 views now. Wow. I made my first investment ever the week this thread started into VTSAX. I remember reading it before I did it thinking it was silly for trying to time the market.

Had I listened, I would be down thousands of dollars today.

Sometimes while I'm at work, I do my job metaphorically rather than literally. Does that mean I've been metaphorically listening to my boss for the last decade? If he's been speaking to me metaphorically does that mean I've literally been doing what he's said?
