Looks like another big drop on the horizon today.

I thought this was going to be the case, too. And yet as of almost 2PM Eastern time, the S&P is up just over 1%. And VIX has dropped below 20 (historical average, though still above most of 2017).

If I understood this, I wouldn't be in index funds, and would be a billionaire. *shrug*

Glad to be wrong today. Right now we are basically at January 2 numbers.

Why are you even trying to be "right" at all?  Aren't you buy/hold long term index?

A confirmed downtrend from all time highs is anything but noise, fellow. Anyway, there goes support and VXX breakout going into a long weekend.

If you're not going to put your money where your mouth is, at least add your concrete prediction to this thread so we can all laugh at how bad it is. (along with all the others too, including mine, so there won't be any reason to feel bad about being wrong)  And hey, maybe you'll actually be right!  Stranger things have happened.

https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/investor-alley/calling-the-top/

Mine is not a prediction but an analysis based on facts and charts to conclude that we have already seen the top of this bull rally. Posting in that thread would be "cheating" since i've made the call after the fact.

Still one of my favorite thorstach posts.  We certainly don't want any "cheating" since he had already made his conclusion.

Thorstach has moved on to a greater calling, and I am eagerly awaiting the forecast of his latest thesis: The looming collapse of the known universe.

The expansion is in! Prepare for the Doppler crash.  Everything will be blue-tinted soon. Be the trend-setter of the apocalypse. Beat the panic buyers, and get your tiny blue shoes at a bargain now!

Caveat: depending on the location of your home planet, it could take a millennia or two for the blue light and gravitational effects to reach you.  Plan your style changes accordingly.

Calling the top is hard to do. I think "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" explains it well.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened

We have not yet discussed the possibility of having reached the lip sync top and how it affects the imminent inverted yield Fibonnacci sequence approaching its 200-day moving average.

Naturally blue corn chips are blue because they are aflatoxin flavored.  Not recommended.

A regular diet including apiaceous vegetables, such as carrots, parsnips, celery, and parsley may reduce the carcinogenic effects of aflatoxin

No no no, you're missing the point. The top is in for corn. It's all downhill since summer 2016. It's the only possible interpretation of the data.

Sounds like the the utility of doing cocaine to reduce the potential of heroin to depress heart function and cause death. We already know how such a combination worked out for John Belushi and his speedball approach to balancing the dangers of a toxin.

S&P has broken through the 50 day MA and is heading for the 20. Godspeed, Mustachians!

The market rejected the 20 day moving average and slammed down hard (back to the 50DMA).

How often does the S&P 500 have a sharp correction and rebound making a sharp V bottom and then continue to climb like nothing happened?  Extremely rarely.  The correction isn't over yet.  It's the eye of the storm.
