If they (Congress) muck up their proposed tax cuts, we will likely get a correction.  TOP IS IN!  If they pass something, I suspect it's already "baked in" to the current market.  Will we continue to glide upward?  Or will we get a little profit-taking, TOP IS IN!

Called "Apocalypse Now."  Actually a really good movie.  Robert Duval (pictured above).  The actual quote was, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."  Marlon Brando.  Martin Sheen.

Dial it up on Netflix, if you haven't seen it yet.  Great movie.

It's an adaption of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness moved to Vietnam during the war.  Agreed it's a great film - Brando's insane portrayal of Kurtz is something he never topped.  Martin Sheen's character is pretty insane too.  Hell, the whole movie is a study in insanity.

History suggests there is an abundance of Americans that share that perspective.  Probably no small part of the reasons for the success of the film.  ;)

Dow breaks above 24,000, on track for longest streak of monthly gains in 22 years

The top is in!

December could be lower with investors taking some of the profit off the table.

...Or I could be wrong and December will bring new highs with the Santa Claus Rally

Investors may wait to see if the tax law passes, then decide if they would be better off waiting until January.

I find it hilarious that some people on this forum have been advocating dumping all stocks since 2013.  I bet they're kicking themselves now.

Stay the course, people!  Keep your asset allocation constant through the ups AND the downs.  Always be buying, no matter what happens, because you never know when the next corner will arrive.

Personally, I'm hoping for a dramatic stock pullback in the near future just to ease the emotional tension from skyrocketing prices.  I'll feel better once it's over and I don't have to steel my resolve against the next recession.

Apparently steeling your resolve against skyrocketing prices can be difficult too.  It's getting tough to keep convincing myself to keep buying in.  I hope the market gives us working stiffs a break soon, but who knows when that will actually happen.

Just passed 2650 and fluctuating in the high 40s, so 2700 is either really close or the Top is in.  Too bad my TSP contributions go in tonight instead of last week when prices were lower.

My gut feeling is the TOP is not in

I was bummed to see the high S&P 500 value today too. I was hoping for a nice drop today, not a .8% increase. Life is so unfair! :(

I'm kidding. I know it's a privilege to be able to invest anything at all.

It's time to update my chart!
An interesting pattern emerges - Thorstach has commented roughly a half-dozen times before taking a ~6 week hiatus. If the pattern holds he'll make several more postings before going dormant again.

Struggling with the conclusion though.  What explains gaps of 6 weeks? Mini-hibernations?

Thorstach has to travel to the North Pole to get updated top values from Santa and his deputy Elvis. Santa is kinda busy since he has toy factories to run. Elvis is completely unreliable.

I believe that we need a small prize for the best explanation of Thorstachian inter-arrival times.

If I was thorstach I'd post here every once in a while just to see how long I could keep the thread going. Did you ever see those experiments with lab rats where they get one reward every 1000 presses on the lever? It's just enough to keep the rat busy.

His interplanetary visa needs to be renewed and stamped every six weeks, which equals one year on his home planet, and the nearest embassy is 0.0576 light years away.

He could have opted for a permanent residency permit, but he's waiting for the fees to come down.  Unfortunately the fees just keep going up.

This is the obvious simple answer.  We long ago established that thotstach doesn't actually believe any of his own calls and just started this thread for the lulz.  He's a benevolent and entertaining troll.  Don't take any of it too seriously.

ps. frankly I am surprised our dear thorstach didn't post yesterday, given that it was the first "sizeable" drop in awhile

That can only mean the top is truely in, if he calls it, he jinxes it and the market goes up to new highs, if he stays silent, the market must be about to tank

He's the S&P groundhog
