Let's see... 3 months into the Republican Congress/Administration we have S&P 500 down ~13%, NASDAQ about 20%.

Based on my calculations, stocks will be at zero before the end of Trump's term... Top is in!

You must be using that proprietary 'reciprocal tariff' math...

egg bottom is in...anyone buying the dip?

I have around $60-$70k in a high interest savings right now that I’m debating tossing into VTSAX. I won’t need it any time soon.

Obviously no idea if the bottom is in or what’s gonna happen. Going to chew on that decision for a bit today.

I'm going to go ahead and say this is not anywhere near the bottom. I think we have 30% to go, minimum.... not that I'm doing anything about it.

I had a similar amount amount in cash as part of a recent HSA transfer (don't get me started on the Optum transfer process). I set up a few limit purchases for $5k of VTI at increasingly low prices (two of which have already been triggered). If none of these hit, I was just going to DCA the money in over the next 6 months.

"If we don't win the next election, the stock market will crash just like it did in 1929". Trump, South Carolina.  See it would have been much worse with the other guy..

If you don't check the market, it exists in a state of top and bottom being in simultaneously.

Does the dead cat both bounce and not bounce simultaneously until you check?

speaking of flammable piles....

Trump just threw the match...  fwoom!  Goodbye pile of cash

That's too bad - now I am no longer able to fund my planned Cybertruck purchase...

Purchasing cybertrucks is a suckers bet.  You can just cruise the highways looking for pieces that have flown off and assemble your own like a kit car.

Great idea... all my friends have been telling me that I'll be the laughing-stock of town if I am caught driving one around though. I wonder if wrapping it would help mitigate that problem.... that might actually help with keeping the pieces from flying off again too.

I took advantage of the dip to max out my IRA for the year. That money was supposed to go to the mortgage, I guess I'm a sucker for dips.

bottom is in?  LOL, are you are on Trump's Signal chat?  Hope this works out well for you but I'm still sitting on the sidelines.  10 year yield rocketed higher today, so it's not the worst place to be while waiting for (self imposed) inflation to kick back in...  Losing 5% sucks

Once the S&P500 is down another 30% then I'll agree. I think it'll happen.

thorstach calling the "top is in!" is well proven indicator of being near a bottom.

Be careful what you wish for!    S&P 500 down to 4000 - 4500 is not crazy and really your 30% down from here threshold (approx. 3500) isn't crazy either.  Decision making for companies has come to a halt because nobody knows what today looks like. let alone tomorrow.   Q1 earnings will see a nice bump as the it started good and ended with pull forward.  But the rest of the year is going to be tough.   2025 estimates were $280/sh and S&P500 peaked out at 22 p/e forward.   Now earnings will likely come in lower (what I don't know) but lets say 5% over 2024, so $245/sh and due to interest rates and instability a lower P/E of 14 (P/Es typically get to 14 at recessionary lows)......so S&P 500 of $3,430 (56% off all time high).

I don't think it gets there but fundamentally it is not crazy, but from there it will be a great time to invest.    And the orange guy will proclaim that he created the best stock market in History but he will leave out it was from a crazy low solely due to his actions.

Supposed 90 day pause of tariffs.  Market sending a clear signal here.  Of course it happens just as I consider throwing my annual ira contribution into the market.  OTOH I still want to go to cash.

All I can picture is a naked Trump self-fellating while rolling around the oval office in a sort of ouroboros of orange bronzer, jello-y flesh, and disheveled hairpiece while Republicans in the room look on with a gentle swelling of quiet pride.
