Down about 1% this week. At this rate we will be down 52% by the end of the year. Fear is back!

Perhaps if we had an intermediary who is closer to thorstach than the rest of us, and who can distribute or interpret His message. We could send this intermediary money so they don't have to work and can communicate with thorstach all day. We could meet on the weekends to receive the intermediary's message. If @Phenix doesn't want the job, I could do it. It's my best hope to FIRE now that the top is in.

Whenever someone gives me the middle finger I take that as 'top is in' and respond knowingly with a reciprocal middle finger.  Only for the truly enlightened.

Can't tell. Are the middle fingers going up or down? Is the middle finger top in?

That's the beauty of it - the top is always "in"... regardless of the angle you perceive it from.

We must be careful with the handshake. The first finger clearly shows a slight decline from the top while the second finger is showing a positive slope. Thankfully it cuts off just below the first finger, not surpassing the original top. This example is acceptable, but not the image we're looking for in a handshake.

Also important is the expression on the practitioner's face - it screams "Fear is back, VIX above 15, XIV breaking down. SPY to follow, earnings will be a reality check."

Earnings were a reality check back in April 2017 too, you know. That month, the S&P 500's 12-month earnings were $127.50 in inflation-adjusted November 2023 dollars. As of September 2023, those earnings were only $183.81. Thus earnings fell ((183.81-127.50)/127.50)= 44.2%, as predicted. The S&P 500's price broke down from 4780.94 today to 2359.31 on April 1, 2017, a decrease of 103% not including dividends.

Unfortunately if we consider inflation (~11.7%) since Jan 2022, the S&P would need to hit ~5,356 to match the previous top adjusted for inflation.

Inflate the top!

Less dividends, so probably 3% less than that.
