Portfolio Allocation Help
« on: October 20, 2018, 03:09:48 PM »
Hi, new user here.
Did some accounting of expenses and assets today and looking for some help

Would like some advice on how to allocate assets. They've begun to get big enough to worry about and scattered enough to be confusing. Entropy has sorted of taken hold here.

So background.
Income: 92K/year + 8K (girlfriend's contribution to bills)
Age: 28
Debt: 0 (aside from monthly credit usage, paid of at the end of each month). Currently rent a home

Like to keep around 10k in cash or something very liquid for emergency/cash on hand. Incoming cashflow will keep it bigger inbetween investments so this is a min.  Some potential for car/house downpayments in the next 5 years. Depends on home prices/need.

Current Assets:
Cash: 40k

Roth IRA (Vanguard):
Total 30k, current allocation
73%      Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares  VFIAX:
27%      Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund Investor Shares VBMFX:

401k (old, need to roll this over to I assume a vanguard IRA?): 7k
100%    S&P 500 Index Fund VIIIX

401k (new, 3% match, 20% contribution): 18K
50.00%   B) VANGUARD BALANCED INDEX
10.00%   B) VANGUARD EMRG MKTS STK IDX
40.00%   B) VANGUARD TOTAL WORLD STK ID

Vanguard Brokerage Account: 17k
32%          VGTSX   Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund Investor Shares
68%          VTSMX   Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares

So 401k options are (not including options for letting them manage)
B) SCHWAB BANK SAVINGS ACCT
B) DFA REAL ESTATE SEC PORTF
B) SCHWAB INT'L INDEX FUND
B) SCHWAB S&P 500 INDEX FUND
B) SCHWAB TREAS-INFLAT PROT BD
B) SCHWAB SMALL-CAP INDEX
B) SCHWAB TOTAL STOCK MKTS
B) TIAA-CREF LARGE-CAP GROWTH
B) TIAA-CREF LARGE-CAP VALUE
B) VANGUARD BALANCED INDEX
B) VANGUARD EMRG MKTS STK IDX
B) VANGUARD FINANCIALS INDEX
B) VANGUARD PREC MTLS & MINING
B) VANGUARD HEALTH CARE INDEX
B) VANGUARD MID-CAP INDEX
B) VANGUARD INFO TECH IDX
B) VANGUARD MATERIALS INDEX
B) VANGUARD SHORT-TERM BD IDX
B) VANGUARD TOTAL WORLD STK ID
B) VANGUARD HIGH-YIELD CORPORA
B) BLACKROCK US TOTAL BOND IDX

jtav, welcome to the forum.

Your holdings seem closer to an "after" look than a "before" - as in a before and after look at a portfolio makeover.

Do you have an Investment policy statement?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
