Best Web Based Technical Indicator Charting Platform?
« on: June 05, 2020, 12:25:11 PM »
Looking for advice on the best web based charting platform for technical indicators (EMA, Bollinger Bands, VWAP, MACD, RSI, some of those things).

ThinkorSwim is great, but requires a downloaded software. Their web portal is crap. TDAmeritrade and Interactive Brokers are worse. As I'm mainly using it to theoretically test some strategies on stocks and options, and for paper trading, I'm not willing to shell out a few hundred dollars a month for some platform. And I'm looking for something I can use on a work computer that doesn't require a download.

I've been using Stockcharts.com for many years. It's quite popular and has a lot of good info for finding good trades. Very easy to use. They have a good sale at the end of the year and if you purchase six months at a time, the cost figures out to less that $15/mo.
I also have a subscription to Trading View which is also popular. I have it mostly just in case Stockcharts goes down, but that's rare. They are both accessible for free with limited indicator usage.

Watch out, hedge fund algos... specialkayme is going to find some free software to run on his work computer.

Seriously, you are really going to mess around with investing strategies at work, on a work computer? That sounds like a recipe for losing your job (and, if you implement the investing strategies, your money too), even if you're ok with it ethically.

What you’re looking for is TradingView.

Koyfin is free for now and heavier on the fundamental side but I like it for the style of trading/investing I do.

Thanks for the suggestions @hodedofome and @swamimeister

TradingView looks a little more like what I'm used to using in TOS. But I think Stockcharts could be used. As the free version of both doesn't provide intraday charting, it's tough to really tell which one would be best. Looks like both offer a 30 day trial for their upgrade versions, so it should give me plenty of time to figure it all out. I'll probably do the trial on one for two weeks, then sign up for the trial on the other, which will give me two weeks to try them both side by side.

Thanks again.
