Favorite financial news website/column?
« on: June 11, 2014, 03:16:52 AM »
Which is your favorite financial news site or favorite financial columnist you read?

In regular news I am the CNN, Huff Post, BBC, Guardian or Telegraph reader. Lately I've been researching indexes and funds but I want to start keeping up to date with the news and not sure which too read. Sooooo many and in the finance area, not sure who/which is best to read.

Thanks!

The Investing - Theory, News & General forum on Bogleheads.org is my favorite source of worthwhile financial news.  Obviously not  a source in its own right, but they do a better job finding articles worth reading than any first party sites I've seen.

See post - The low information diet.   Most of the financial "news" is crap.  I wouldn't follow any of it. If you are investing (i.e. buying companies for their long term return on investment) and not speculating (hopping in an out of stocks to make a quick profit) the news has very little relevant information.

Agreed, most news is for entertainment purposes only. I do enjoy abnormalreturns.com though.

Good investing should be simple and very boring. That being said, I think people need to figure that out on their own. It's usually not enough for someone to just tell you to stay away from the news. It takes time reading every article you can find before you realize that not only is it not helping you, but that it's probably hurting you as well.

Thanks! I don't plan on using the news to help me decide. I've already picked the indexes and funds I need. I bought stocks in 2009 when they were cheap and only companies I liked. By luck they are doing really well but I think I need to say good bye to one. I just want to keep up with what's out there. I guess financial news are no different than other news.

I used to watch CNBC.   Now I don't watch it at all.... ever.   I check Marketwatch.com  and use it to get basic company information like dividend % and ex dates, current and aftermarket prices if I am downstairs.  I also like SeekingAlpha.
