Contribution Limit Question
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:05:59 AM »
I'm in the process of consolidating several Roth IRAs into my Vanguard IRA. I know the contribution limit for the year in $5500.00.

Right now my total contributions for 2013 are:
$3,700.00 in Vanguard
$1200.00 in Scottrade.
Total = $4900.00

So I can still contribute $600. I would like to set up a monthly automatic investment of $100. However I'm confused about the end of year date for contribution limits. Is it 12/31/13 or is it Tax day in April 2014? If it's April, I need to wait until October to start my automatic contributions.

You technically have until tax day to contribute for "2013".  But, you also can contribute for "2014" after January... so there is some overlap.

You can just set up automatic contributions now, and when it hits the limit Vanguard will ask if you want to contribute to 2014 now.
