best place for stock account?
« on: March 04, 2016, 07:29:21 AM »
I was thinking of using capitol one/sharebuilder since I already have a savings account there - but is there anything else that is better for individual stock investing? cost, sign-bonus, etc?

Looks like Capital One has $6.95 trading commissions, which isn't outrageous. Do you have any mutual fund investments elsewhere? Might want to look there as well.

Sharebuilder is fine, Vanguard, Fidelity and Schwab also offer low-cost investment accounts. Check out what they offer with $0 transaction fees, and go from there. The three aforementioned companies all have good $0 transaction/low ER index ETFs and mutual fund options.

Roth is tdameritrade, tIRA is vanguard, and 401k is fidelity. Was looking to do some individual stock investing....seemed the fees in those were higher.

I'd recommend against capital one because of the fees. Robinhood has already been suggested, and with $0 commission trades I think it's the best option if you can't be persuaded against buying individual stocks. The real danger is the risk and the higher taxes due to (probable) short term trading.
