Amazon Acquires WFM - What happens to my shares
« on: June 16, 2017, 07:59:31 AM »
http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/16/amazon-is-buying-whole-foods-in-a-deal-valued-at-13-point-7-billion.html

Amazon to acquire Whole Foods for $42 a share, in a deal valued at $13.7 billion.

Unless something falls through, it looks like Amazon will acquire Whole Foods Market. I currently work for them and have "Stock Options" (some vested and some unvested) and I also have some "Shares of Stock".

My question is, what happens to these now? Will they still be under WFM or does it become AMZN?

On a side note, what does this do to all the other grocers in the future? This is huge!

haha! God I hope not.

Thanks for the link, it looks like it can be a number of things, so I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Shareholders are cashed out at the offer's price. Unvested RSUs: will be dictated by the terms of the acquisition.

That's a great deal then.  It was reported that Whole Foods was purchased at 27% above market value.

Actually, it's not a particularly notable increase. Acquisitions always demand a premium, otherwise deals wouldn't go through.

Maybe not notable to other deals, but I'd be excited about a 27% bump in a share price if I owned it.  The last exciting thing that happened to my VTSAX was the expense ratio dropped 0.01% :p.
