Advice on how to invest
« on: August 26, 2016, 06:46:27 AM »
Could really use this communities help / advice regarding an upcoming decision I'm facing. The main question I'm trying to answer is how should I invest $750k that I will be receiving shortly. Here's some background related to my situation:

- 41 years old, married
- $2.6M net worth currently (will be $3.35M after receiving payment).
- Of current net worth, 30% is in real estate, 12% in retirement accts, 30% in small business investments (successful small businesses with great growth potential), and 28% in Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund
- Still have about $650k of mortgage debt between 2 properties (at between 4.25 - 4.75% interest rate). One property is primary residence, the other is a rental property delivering solid 9-10% returns.
- My goal is to take a step back from work, and live off our current assets within the next year. Based on the 4% rule, that should be very achievable based on our current spending habits.

So, my question to the group is...given my current asset allocation, any suggestions on the best place(s) to invest this add'l money? I'm leaning towards Vanguard index funds, but just feel as though I'm putting a lot of money into the market at the wrong time (feels like a peak to me). Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
