Advice for Investing Deferred Income
« on: April 06, 2021, 04:30:25 PM »
Hi All,

I have chosen to defer some salary to be paid out in the years 2024, 2026 and 2028.  Unfortunately, the funds were started in mostly Govt. Bonds, which are making very little and sadly, could go negative.  Since deferred income needs to be invested in publicly traded investments, I am looking for some advice on what asset allocation models I should use for those investments that will end up paying out in 2, 4 and 6 years.

If this was your money, how would you treat the asset allocation for this situation?  I am allowed to defer again, but that would incur another 5 year wait.  The goal of deferring at first was to have a safety net for healthcare for FIRE.  Now, I just want to make sure that I'm not losing money on low returning investments, but also do not want to switch into something I lose a great deal more by going the complete opposite.

Thanks everyone.  Appreciate any feedback.

I'd just put it all in VT, personally. If that sounds too risky maybe a closed end municipal bond fund like NEA? I'm not sure about your tax treatment on dividends for these funds.
