1031 Exchange information and resources
« on: June 07, 2018, 12:47:17 AM »
Hi,

I am new here. I have been looking into new investment opportunities. I really like the tax benefits of 1031 exchanges but I need to do some more reading / research to see what kind of return I will be looking at.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can read more about 1031's?

Matthew

Remember new tax law - 1031’s are only good on real estate.

First, read and understood the instructions for IRS Form 8824.  (Like kind exchanges).

Also, read articles about it (google can be a friend and an enemy).

And because the consequences are severe if you screw it up, Talk to your CPA or EA way BEFORE you start the process l!!! Can’t emphasize that last statement enough!

Good luck

You want to understand how Sec. 1031 changes the Sec. 199A deduction too... in case that applies.

Here's a general summary of how Sec. 199A changes investing, and about 2/3rds of way down page, there's a brief discussion of what you need to be alert to.
