Well, not completely free, since I paid $23 for a pair of haircutting scissors. I'd gone 13 months w/o a haircut, and was committed to NOT pay again. My husband refused to do it (justifiably worried that I may hate the cut he gave me). My mom came for a visit, and was very willing. Two scores: mom feels wonderfully useful and appreciated, and I got a free ($23) haircut. Mom did a GREAT job btw; it looks just as good as a professional cut.
I also scored $1000 from selling a Nikon lens, which went straight to my son's college fund.
We went on a mini-vacation this month, and threw my son a b-day party, so we've over-spent in some areas, but I'm happy we were able to balance it with frugality where possible, like bike rides to work and mom's free haircut.
