Why do people have journals?
« on: April 19, 2016, 09:11:29 AM »
Why do people have journals? I'm sure different people have different reasons, I'm just curious what brought about the journal section of the forums.

Edit to answer my own question:
I'm finding journaling to be really good for getting stuff out of my head and organizing thoughts.

I think MMM himself explained it best in this post: http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/11/12/got-a-serious-goal-make-it-public/. By making their goals for FI public (via the journals on this forum), they are more likely to be held accountable.

Recording your journey
Getting encouragement
Making friends
Exploring Mustashianism

IMYHO the journals that are just monthly recitals of net worth and expenses are REALLY BORING!

There aren't a lot of people who I can chat with about money and intentional living in real life (though I'm pretty lucky - my husband is 100% on board, and I hang out with my local mustachians, so that helps).

On the journals page, we're all friends supporting each other with this journey. There's a sense of community.

-Have a place to set goals
-Keep track of your thoughts and how they evolve
-Get things out of your head onto paper can be very therapeutic
-Helps hold yourself accountable
-Find that when fear our doubts come in I can read the past and see I have felt that way before

-Get some input from other people that can be helpful on my own personal scenarios

These are just a few

Also the Journal section is hidden from internet searches; so it's much more private than a normal post on this board.
