Spammer housekeeping?
« on: May 30, 2017, 04:30:18 PM »
Is it possible for the forum to lock out newly registered posters from making any SEO keyword links, attachments/images or general website links until they have become established? I am a member of several other similar forums, and every one of them locks out that ability until the poster achieves a minimum number of posts - usually around 10.

If they are spammers, they will reveal themselves easily due to the stupidity of their attempts to get their posts count up enough to spam. They'll either copy/paste or have generic "hey, that's cool" type of postings, often with poor grammar, or it will be a flurry of postings within 2-3 minutes so they can get to the point of posting their spammy links.

And the other request would be for the mods to delete the responses that occur AFTER a spammer bumps a very old thread. Most of the time, the spam post that bumped it is deleted, but the other stuff from posters that don't notice the dates of the OP's original postings or chime in without really reading anything else, ending up making the thread a lingering zombie mess - the OP is either gone for months/years and no one ends up hearing anything resolution wise, or the subject matter was already hashed out and dealt with long ago... it makes for a very cluttery and confusing reading experience when the mods don't do the final housekeeping (delete the necro-post responses) after the spam removal.

A laudable suggestion, particularly if Simple Machines makes it easy to enable.
