Rules on Thread Bumping
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:40:24 PM »
So I've been digging through the older posts in the forum and reading the ones that look interesting.  There are a few that I would've commented on had they been newer and a couple that I would like to bump.  Are there any site rules for bumping old threads?  I've gotten a popup warning before for posting on an older thread but I haven't found anything that would suggest it is prohibited or even frowned upon.

Knock yourself out.

Don't bump a thread that's less than a day old just to get responses to it, but if you're replying to an old thread, that's fine.

You may want to mention in your reply "I know this is an old thread, but..." to give people reading some context.

Another alternative is to start a new thread on the topic, and link to the old one and say "this was discussed six months ago here (link), but I wanted to reopen the discussion here because..."

But if you're just replying to a thread that's a few months old, but think is still relevant, feel free to reply in it.

However if it was a controversial thread at the time though (mod warnings and such), best to leave it dead.  ;)

Bump

LOL!

Ok, two three more questions.

1)  How to I make a link look like this instead of http://www.this.com?
2)  How do I get the pictures to upload?  I select the file but I can't find an upload button.  I even tried previewing the post without success.
3)  In the event that I can get a picture to upload, how do I make it big instead of wee little?

1. http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/ says http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Url this
2. Attach, then post? Oh, if you want them inline probably you need to upload to imgur or photobucket or whatever.
3. Small pics you can click on and it'll enlarge them, I think - so the page doesn't end up with horizontal scrollbars

*edit* Attachments appear below the main text, and yes when you click on the pic I attached it gets bigger and starts... dancing. I love this gif :)

1) Use:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.URLHERE.com]TEXT YOU WANT HERE[/url]
2) Click the plus sign under the post, choose the file, and hit post.  That will upload a picture from your hard drive. For a picture already on the internet, use this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://www.pictureyouwanthere.com/picture.jpg[/img]
(Replace with the actual picture you want, obviously.)

3) Depends on the picture and what size it is.  You may need to resize before opening.

I think attachments are kinda a pain.  It's pretty easy to use imgur.com and the IMG tag.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
