I'm still trying to login after upgrading to Windows 10.
I get the message, "This username does not exist."
I can login fine from Windows 7, but I'm phasing it out.
I want to use Win 10.
Help!

Perhaps you could post screen shots showing exactly what you are doing and exactly how the response appears?

Is this the only site it's happening on?
EDIT: Also, did you actually log in again on Win7, or are you still logged in from a previous session? (Though if you only have the one Win7 platform to test with, logging out on that one might be a bit dicey)

Just idle speculation here, but I almost wonder if somehow your keyboard language got messed up, so that the "same" letters are actually different Unicode characters?

You can test with a different browser or private browsing to avoid disrupting the existing session on Win 7.

Definitely an idea. BTD, have you tried copy/pasting directly from the username on the forum?

Tried logging using Chrome (normally Firefox) It did not work! I got the same,
"This username does not exist"

 I tried the copy/paste, that didn't help.

Yes, I have many other forums that take the password just fine.

That’s wild.  Definitely start with a different browser and check the language settings.

Are you hitting enter or clicking the button?  Any plugins?

Where do I check Language settings. But keep in mind, I have at least 6 probably 10 other forums working fine in the language setting I have.

I'm clicking the button.

Not sure what plugins you're referencing. Firefox does have plugins, but I think so far I have only loaded one. Chrome had never been used until I tried the login to MMM forum today.

I think I know what your problem is, *cough* @Qmavam... your display name is not your account username. I can't log into my account with the display name of Daley, either. ;)

@arebelspy - You might want to add a little bit to the forum FAQ about the usernames selected at signup versus the current display name used, and the difference between them when logging back in.

But why would it matter which OS is used?  Just some obscure bug precipitated by the display name difference?

Also you are really IP DALEY?  I was wondering if you changed your name or something

Nothing so convoluted, just a fresh login with no cookies. It's entirely possible that BTDretire hasn't logged back into the forums since the display name change, or been long enough that they forgot the quirk. I suspect the exact same behavior would happen if they cleared the cookies from their currently logged in browser and tried to sign back in.

Also you are really IP DALEY?  I was wondering if you changed your name or something

You tell me.

I have actual reasons, but I'd rather quote an ancient post from the old Atlas Shrugged thread instead:
Maybe I completely missed the part in the book that pointed out kindness and voluntarily assisting someone as being maligned but moreso those acts that are mandated at the point of a gun or via that threat of jail and IP confiscation.

If that happened, he'd just be Daley.

You were so youthful and full of piss and vinegar... but definitely not beer. I know who stole my IP, did they take your humor too?

I don't have an old name.
I did get a temperary name back in Oct of 18, but that was after a hurricane and I had a problem logging on. I made the temp so I could ask for help getting back on the forum, IIRC. Once that was solved I didn't use it again.

 Thank you, Daley!
The error message was correct :-| That user name does not exist, I put in the proper user name and hey I'm on the forum using Win 10.  I went through my 6 pages of passwords and found my original MMM entry, yep, I had the username wrong.
Something strange though, I went to my stored passwords and looked up MMM, I found 3, my original, the temporary I got after the hurricane and one that I don't understand made about two weeks ago with a username I have no clue how it was created.
Thanks Daley.

PS. RE: the unknown username, I have no recollection of the username created two weeks ago, I'm not a drinker and my memory is still decent, (especially if I'm interested) :-)

Not exactly :-) We lost power for 8 days, my cellphone company was down for months. My computer HD got corrupted*. After several weeks I learned that AT&T service was working, so I got AT&T service, I tethered my computer to it and was able to get on the internet, this helped immensely dealing with the insurance company.
If, I did a search of my posts back then I may find I had the same username problem, but I'm not sure.

* I had 3 items damaged by, what I suspect was a power surge during the hurricane. All were at my computer desk, the computer, the fluorescent light above my chair and my radio I have mounted to the wall. The router, modem, printers and sound system in the same outlet were fine, as were other electrical items in the house.
We lost 6 plywood panels off the roof, a garage wall tipped in against my truck, carport was gone, screened porch was gone, the she shed was crushed my a tree, our 25 by 40 greenhouse was destroyed, a million of pine trees gone. The insurance company totaled my truck, I bought it back,  did zero repair and drive it daily. We had $90k of damage.
At the one year point we got back to 100% :-)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
