Question about forum symbols on left side.

Hi all,
On the far left are pages, sometimes multiple pages, apparently denotes number of
posts in thread.
 The column after that, sometimes a question mark, a light bulb, a paper clip, Exclamation point, smiley face, or Thumbs up.
 Any link to what these mean, who or how they are inserted, or other info.

That's the "Message icon" you can select when you make a post. People usually leave it at "standard" but I just set this post to a "thumb up" as an example.
