How to stop following a Thread
« on: February 05, 2014, 12:34:02 PM »
Is there a way to stop following a specific thread that you posted in, under the "new replies to your posts" tool?

I like this tool, to follow threads that i have had input in, but some of them get off topic and never end, then seem to be there everytime i it

No. You can only do so by going back and deleting all posts in that thread. Please don't do that - it makes the thread incoherent and deprives everyone else of your opinion.

A different way to follow a thread is to select "Notify" from the buttons at the top or bottom of the page, and then you'll get a reminder e-mail.  (Of course you end up getting more e-mail, which not every reader wants.)  I use "Notify" to follow some military or personal-finance threads which may lie dormant for weeks before generating a new insightful comment.  True, there's a lot of thread drift, but some of my best insights have come from those unexpected derailments.

You can turn off "Notify".  Since I use that to follow threads, I hardly ever click on "new replies to your post" unless I'm trying to find a thread.

It absolutely destroys a forum history, too.  I've had posters try to commit online suicide or to regain their anonymity, and after a couple cases of that the moderators have limited or even turned off the "Modify" button.

Doesn't stop following, but I like the "mark all as read" button.

Cats use their tails for balance and have nearly 30 individual bones in them! <To cancel Daily Cat Facts, reply 'cancel'>

Yea, i don't plan to use the notofy me too often, I already get more then enough emails from elsewhere. And see no reason to delete messages. I will just skim through my list of New replies and then use the mark all as read.

Thanks again for the support

In ancient Egypt killing a cat was a crime punishable by death. Thanks for choosing Cat Facts!

Did you know that cats were domesticated from the African wildcat 10,000 years ago? <To cancel reply 'cancel'>
