Can we get emoticons?
« on: October 01, 2014, 04:34:56 PM »
Even the ERE forum has them but we don't! Pretty please? :-)

They're much more into "stuff" than we are.

Besides, tilting your head and using your imagination is much more badass than having little pictures already done for you.  What, do you need a bedpan and catheter for your brain?

If you can supply the bedpan and catheter, I won't insist on the emoticons. :P

Nooooooooooo

And the  is one emoticon I particularly want! It's far better for displaying sarcasm than /s. Can we appeal this decision to the great MMM himself? ;-)

Better watch it, or I'll start using Japanese emoticons! (-_-;)

Yeah!  Gifs!

Can we appeal this decision to the great MMM himself? ;-)

It was their decision in the first place.

Mr. and Mrs. MMM both thought emoticons were too cartoony and silly, so they didn't enable them when setting up the forums.

I'm sure it can be changed, but we've managed 2+ years without them so far, so I don't see a huge pressing need.

Though when I viewed this thread in Tapatalk, it did change the wink-face to an emoticon, so that's one solution for you.  Also, I'm sure a browser extension (greasemonkey type thing) can easily change whatever you'd like.

+1

I prefer the emotionally restful place of a forum without emoticons.

But of course YMMV, soooo What about a poll? ;)

I'd rather the ability to use markdown for links than emoticons.

[my hyperlink text](www.google.com) is a lot easier than the [url= stuff

That looks about the same to me.  And luckily there's quick buttons for that stuff (under the bold, italics, etc.) that make it quite easy.  :)

Edit: Your trailing url thing messed up my quote tags, so I had to close the URL, and now it appears as if it's not there. :)

I'm getting spoiled with markdown, I guess... slows me down too much to use the stupid buttons :P Haha.

Good thing we left out the cartoony/silly features

Aw, come on. I love that little, round, yellow head wearing sunglasses…so totally Joe Cool. I can't get my emotions across as well with just punctuation marks.

God, no. It's like talking to adults around here. One of the nice things about the place.

Well that's no fun. I have to grow old but I don't have to grow up. ;)

Clearly you don't actually have to have very many conversations with teenagers. Three year olds are totally cool, but 14-17 year olds are fucking exhausting. Come to think of it, it was a lot more fun being three than it was being fifteen, too.

You have 15-17 years olds that WILL talk to you?? Mine never did. 10 to 14 year old boys have got to be worse. I have high hopes that now the middle's 20 constructive conversations can occur.
